What does everyone prefer? reading books or watching movies?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 15, 2007 4:34 pm

Reading books, usually, but it entirely depends on the plot.

For instance! I'd rather watch an interesting movie than read a dull book. The reverse is also true.

Definitely reading books. I'd rather read most movies rather than see it.

I have to say this is a very bias arena to ask such a question.

Reading of course, nothing beats the images that your mind can create while reading a book. Even if the movie version sucks, at least you have that great story in your head to enjoy.

I like to read the book. I'm not a big movie person as it is.

Depends. For instance, I'd rather watch Eragon than read it. That way, it goes by faster, and I don't really have to pay attention to it.

But I'd rather read the book before seeing the movie, in any case.

I have to give an example. When I read Romeo and Juliet (a.k.a. R&J for short) during English, I had to watch the movie also. There wwere two movies I watched. One movie was better than the other. Here's one warning I'll give you. DO NOT WATCH THE MODERN VERSION (with Leonardo DiCaprio (I spelled his name wrong)) OF R&J! Now that I got that out of my system, I think it all depends on the book/movie you're viewing/reading. Sometimes you either have to watch the movie or the book, not both!

Well that really depends, doesn't it. I love a good book, but I also love a good movie. They're different art forms. Are you talking about movies based on books, or just movies in general? Some movies based on books (Lordof the Rings, the two newest Pride and Prejudice movies, Persuasion, and Fight Club come to mind) are very good. I enjoy watching these, to see how the filmmakers choose to interpret the movie and how they adapt things to fit the screen. Other movies based off books are absolutely horrible. My basic assumption is: if you can imagine that you'd like the movie if you never read the book, then it's worth seeing, even if you know the book is better. Not everything in books can be adapted for the screen, just as not everything in movies can be adapted as a book. They have different storytelling techniques.

And masterlinkboy, you had to watch the movie of R&J because it was intended to be seen, not read. The 1969 version is fantastic, btw, and I don't even like that play!

Well, I almost always prefer the book to the movies. Harry Potter, in example. The first movie was good, but then it just went sorta...off >_>'' And Dumbledore in the fourth movie was scary gonk One movie I do like though, compared to the book (even though the book is awesome) is Pride and Prejudice. Not the newer version, but this oooold version, in which they go almost exactly by the book, and is five hours long whee

i usually prefer the books to the movie...there are very few cases when the movie was better than be book. the books are usually better, or at least even with the movie.
