Akila gave a spirited buck as she scampered through the meadow, striped tail waving in the air like a little blue-and-black flag. She was a bundle of inquisitive energy, constantly playing, exploring, questioning, thinking. For instance, why was being half kalona so bad? Kalonas were bad sure, but did that mean a half-kalona had to be? She almost wanted to find one again, and find out, but she was afraid momma would find out. And since she'd been told to stay away from them, she'd get in trouble. And that was bad! What if she got in trouble, and they decided she couldn't explore?
Akila didn't think she could go without being able to move around to see and learn new things. Living with the same old same old was...boring!

Daze had, for all intents and purposes, died.
Or, at least, he appeared to have died. Flopped on his side in the grass, legs straight out in front of him, and his whole right side becoming very close friends with the dirt. His tail didn't flick, his ears didn't twitch, and currently even his eyes were trained forward, not blinking for long periods.
He was thinking about how bored he was. Then he was thinking that being that bored was worse then being dead. This, of course, raised interesting questions. Was being bored worse then being dead? Inquiring minds demanded the answer, and the only way to find out was to be dead. Daze, however, had no real interest in being dead for any amount of time, seeing as to how boredom tended to pass, and as far as he could tell, death did not. The only logical step was to get as close to dead as he could, and compare it to boredom. A series of different poses left him in his current state. The final decision? Well, he hadn’t gotten around to it yet. See, being dead seemed to be a lot like being bored, except he was stuck in one place all the time, and his eyes itched, and he thought there were ants on his legs. But concentrating on BEING dead was at least giving him something to do. Perhaps it was a tie? It was too much to think about while trying to be dead, which required a certain level of not thinking at all about anything but no kicking the ants off.
Sheesh, what a hassle.

Akila nearly shrieked as she skidded to a stop, swallowing it halfway up her throat. She'd almost thought that it was daddy at first, but as she took another look she realized this was not daddy. He was too dark, and his mane was too short. And his hooves were purple. He had a stripey tail like daddy though, and like her. Like gramma too, come to think of it.
She grinned brightly and reached down to yank on the mystery Soquili's tail, darting away a few steps with a giggle. "Get up sleepy head! You've got ants all over you!"

Daze blinked in surprise and glanced up at the blur of blue. It was a kid, or something, which was weird enough, but she was also totally ruining his experiment!
"No stop! I'm dead," he said, very seriously, trying to flick his tail well out of her reach.
Ah, but then he itched, he could feel the ants again; this was not good at all! He snorted with annoyance and gave up his game, rolling onto his feet awkwardly and attempting to stomp the ants off his legs.
"Ouch," he added distractedly as one bit him, "now look what you've done, uh, blue thing! You've ruined it, and now we will never know if being bored is worse then being dead. Who are you anyway?"

"You don't look dead," Akila commented, dancing around to n** at the stranger's mane. "You look kinda like me, actually, and I'm Akila."
She giggled as he explained his 'experiment.' "Well that's a silly thing to try to find out, because if you're dead you can't feel or see or hear or think or ANYTHING." The filly tilted her head. "If you're bored, at least you can do all those things. Which is better than not being able to do them, right?" That made sense to her...at least, she thought it did. If she decided that it didn't, maybe she'd experiment on it herself.

Daze flaired his nostrils, annoyed. He thought he had looked pretty dead. In fact, he was sure of it, and he would have continued to look dead had she not interupted him.
"Well, Akila, you're simply too young to understand the importance of this experiment. Afterall, if seeing and such is boring too, then there isn't much good in it anyway. I'm Daze," he added to the longwinded, and terribly quickly spoken, statement.
He tilted his head slightly, "you do look a little like me. And remember, you look like me, not the other way around, because I'm older," he amended, snobbish, "But you're aweful little to be out here alone. Won't you get yelled at?"

Akila tilted her head, looking up at Daze with gold-brown eyes that looked almost as though they had been lined with khol. "But Daze, even if 'seeing and such' is boring, at least if you're alive to be bored it can change for the better. When you die, that's it, you're dead. It doesn't change, ever." She looked puzzled at his statement. "That doesn't make sense...you look like me, and my daddy, and my gramma, so you look like us because there's more of us...right?"

Daze rolled his eyes with dramatic and impressive oomph. In all reality, what she said made plenty of sense, but that in itself was nonsense to the older, albeit more stubborn, male. No, the little girl couldn't be right because there was no way he wouldn't have already thought of that, right? Oh well, at least it had given him something to do.
"Well," he said, sticking his tongue out and thinking hard, "You look like me'n my two brothers and my dad, so that's one more'n you, and we're all older, right? So we came first and such. I know that's much too hard for someone as very short as you to understand though," he added with finality.
"Hey, what're ya doing out here anyway, I don't think I've seen you before," he asked, flicking his tail slightly. He hadn't spent a long time in this place himself, though, since he'd just barely gotten to the point where he could leave the banks of the river without getting yelled at.

The blue filly giggled. "I'm exploring, having fun...keeps me from being bored and playing dead. Daddy's wolf Mai keeps an eye on me, so I don't have to worry about getting lost. My name's Akila." She frowned, thinking. "You ALL look like me? That's weird..." Her brow furrowed as she tried to come up with a plausible explanation for this. There had to be one, she was sure of it! Suddenly her expression brightened. "Hey, we must be related! Don't know if daddy has any brothers but..." She fumbled a moment, and then stumbled on another idea, "Do you know a gramma Delphia?"

"Oh."
Bit of a flat reply, sure, but it was also kind of an obvious answer he should have already known. Man, this one was lucky though, when he wanted to explore, at least at her age, he had to creatively search for ways to escape from the teepee, and the watchful eyes of that human. Not to mention his mom.
"Huh? Oh, I don't have a gramma."
At least, that's what his mom told him. She got all crazy about certain things, that always seemed like one of them. As for his father? Well, he didn't really know anything about him so he just assumed the no gramma thing went both ways. Wouldn't grammas just mean more problems anyway? More eyes to tell you you're wandering off, or more rules to have to find a way around. The very thought gave him the willies; it was hard enough to dodge those bullets as it was. Life sure did make him thankful he had gotten bigger since then. Now he could get lost all he wanted to. Mostly.
"Hey, you're not bored, right?" he blurted suddenly, a brilliant idea in his head, "what're ya doing exactly to not be bored? Can I join?"
He pranced slightly, stripped tail flicking at the idea. An end to boredom, talk about luck!

Akila's brow wrinkled in confusion. "But then why do you look like daddy 'Laku, gramma Delphia, brother Eirian, and me? Wonder if your daddy or momma is mine's brother or sister. That makes sense. 'Cause your colors are a lot like gramma Delphia's." She skittered forward and tugged on his mane, tail flicking this way and that. "Already told you...I'm exploring! You can come too if you can keep up."

"Hmm," he considered the idea deeply for a moment before shrugging, "no clue. Maybe."
He jumped back pulling his hair out of her reach as best he could, "Oi!" Shaking his head and trying to pull himself back together, he continued, "exploring ey? Well, I'll have you know that I am the king of exploring, and have done it for much longer then you have been alive, discovering all sorts of amazing discoveries and stuff."
He snorted and stood proudly, adding, "Because I'm such a trouble maker and never do as I'm told! So, where are you explorin to?" he asked conversationaly. If it was boring then he wouldn't go of course, but it couldn't hurt to hear her out.

"Ask your parents if they ever heard of Helaku sometime, that's my daddy," Akila suggested. She giggled at his declaration, rearing up a little. "Oh, anywhere! It doesn't matter as long as I'm going somewhere, you know? Especially if I haven't seen where I'm going before!"

He tilted his head slightly, wondering when he would next see them, and, more importantly if he'd remember to ask such a question.
"Alright, I'll do that," he finaly said, not very convincingly.
"Of course, you have to go where you haven't gone before, if you don't that's just wandering, not exploring. Well then, lead on little kila, and will make sure you don't fall in a hole or nothin!"

"If I fall in a hole, I'll get out, or Mai will get me help," Akila commented blithely, grinning as she darted into the woods at a run. "And of course I go where I haven't gone before, I haven't been many places yet so there's lots of those!"
