Aurrek slunk through the small toy store, looking like he wished the linoleum tiles would swallow him up as he pushed his cart along. He had a few small plush baby toys in the basket already, and he would periodically stop to take one off the shelf and wave it front of the face of his infant son, who sat in a baby-carrier in the basket as well. Anything that got a reaction out of the boy found itself added to the collection of items to purchase.
The corner of a parenting magazine peeked out from under the baby carrier, as though the carrier had been deliberately placed over it in shame. Aurrek was gradually getting used to being seen with the little Sin'aeis boy, but he still anxiously awaited the day when he would no longer need to carry around bunches of accessories like diaper bags and such.
Toting around sacks of diapers, if nothing else, made the large white crab that sat on Aurrek's shoulder like a haphazardly-balanced dinner plate all the bolder when it came to tormenting the god with its large claws.
Kelreid looked like he was rather enjoying himself, cheerfully waving his arms at the crab that sat on his father's shoulder. As the large crustacean pulled on Aurrek's hair not for the first time that shopping trip, the boy burst into little baby giggles, and flailed with all the more enthusiasm.

Niko was strolling down one of the aisles, a small basket hanging from her arm, with Fell walking along beside her, a little leash attached to one of the belt loops of his pants. Knowing his hands as she did, she had to keep him on a tight leash, no pun intended. The basket had a couple toys inside, for Aqua and Fell, and the raven-boy was picking up odd objects and tossing them in.
Fell looked around when he heard young, babyish giggles in the next aisle over. Tugging at the leash tied annoyingly to his waist, he pulled his mother around the corner to peek into the aisle. "Heyo!" He said cheerfully, ever the outgoing child.

Hearing another voice that belonged neither to himself nor to his guardian, Kelreid fell silent for a moment. His little eyes got round as he squirmed a little in his carrier, trying to see who else was there; he could not really see much of anything, though, due to the shape of the carrier and the fact that the Sin'aeis was still a bit too young to lift his head.
The next best thing after looking around on his own was getting Aurrek to pick him up. And the best way to do that was to start crying. Kelried sniffled a little, trying to force out some tears.
"Huh?" Aurrek stopped the cart and looked down at the boy as he spoke. "Oh, hello there." He forced a small smile, and quickly glanced around to see if the boy's parents were anywhere in sight.
The crab who sat on Aurrek's far shoulder from the boy inched forward to try to get a better view of the child, though its poor eyesight remained an obstacle. Regardless, the crab waved a large white claw, seemingly in greeting.

Fell laughed at the little crab, giving an exicted little wave in return. He pulled at the leash again, approaching the little group of strangers. "Hiya. I'm Blackfell." The boy said, tapping his chest with his thumb just as Niko came around the corner, the end of the leash around her own waist.
"Fell, don't bother them." She said as a fond reprimand, her face tilting up towards the group, her expression silently asking them if he was. She had the kerchief around her eyes, and was using her "Sense," so she could see their heat forms.

Aurrek gave off very little, if any heat, being essentially made of stone as he was. He figured the young woman could not see him anyway, since her eyes were covered, though.
"Don't worry about him," the god said with a small shrug and a dismissive gesture. "If I minded kids, I wouldn't be here in the first place."
As though just to spite his guardian, Kelreid gave a loud wail and kicked his feet enough to make the cart rock in place slightly.
With a heavy sigh, Aurrek glared down into the cart as he took the crab off of his shoulder and gave the creature to the infant.

Niko grinned slightly to that. "Yeah, certainly makes sense. Sometimes I wonder why I bother with this runt and his siblings." She said, leaning over to ruffle her son's hair.
Fell immediately walked purposefully over to the crab and the baby, standing on tiptoes so he could hold onto the cart for balance. The crab certainly looked funny, but then, the raven boy had never seen a crab before.

Giving up on crying for the moment, the Sin'aeis boy squealed softly and grabbed the crab, shoving one of the creature's claws into his mouth.
The crab struggled and squirmed, trying to get its claw out of the baby's grasp. It did not want to resort to pinching it or anything, but the infant slobber was nearly enough to change the crustacean's little mind. It waved its free claw at the other boy as he peeked over the edge of the cart, as though asking for help.
Kelreid was too busy trying to chew on his father's animal companion to notice Fell at the moment.
"I only have one, thank goodness," Aurrek told her, giving the drooling baby a wary glance.

Fell carefully took a hold of the crab, gently wiggling it. "C'mon, don't eat it. Can't taste too good, s'not even cooked." He said, grinning at the crab.
Niko laughed softly. "Can't say the same for myself. This one has two sisters and a brother, and they're all handfulls just by themselves."

Kelreid whined a little as the strange boy attempted to tug the crab out of his grip, and responded by pulling back.
The crab angled his eye-stalks first towards the infant, then towards the new boy, and tucked all of his free legs tightly against his shell so they would hopefully be less likely to get grabbed or, worse, pulled off. Hopefully this tug-of-war would not last long....
"Lovely," the pale man replied. "I don't think I would ever let myself end up with that many. Best of luck with them, though. How old are they all?"
He smiled perhaps a bit sadistically at the crab in the cart, but made no move for the moment to help the creature.

Fell made a face at the baby, not wanting to pry his mouth open. "C'mon, I don't think he pro'lly likes bein' chewed on." He said, wiggling the crab still, carefully so as not to tear anything; he had noticed the legs disappear.
Niko grinned at the two children; let Fell try and sort him out. It'd do him some good. She turned back to the man as she answered. "Fell's technically my oldest, as he's been with me since he was born. My other three came to me after they were born. My other son is a teenager, as is one of my daughters. The other daughter's a little older then Fell here."

Scrunching up his face into a baby frown-pout, Kelreid shook his end of the crab up and down a little. He made a similar motion with his free hand, as well, as though trying to hit Fell and not realizing that his chubby arms were far too short.
The crab was his, and Kelreid was not about to let the other boy have it!
Seeing the crab getting jostled around, Aurrek finally decided that perhaps he should intervene. He leaned down and started prying the baby's fingers off of the poor crustacean's claw.
"Here, let go, and I'll take him," he told Fell as he finally got the crab free of Kelreid's grip. Then the god replied to the woman, "This is my only one, and I haven't had him long. The baby, I mean, not the crab. The crab has been my, uh, pet for quite some time. It's a little quieter than the baby."

Fell grinned up at the man as he took the crab, giving the crab a cheerful wave. He leaned over to peer at the now empty-handed baby. "What's your name?" The boy asked, his head tilted to the side in curiosity.
Niko laughed softly, grinning a similarly impish grin as Fell's. "Well, I would hope that the crab is quieter then the baby." She said, raising an eyebrow. "Seeing as it doesn't have a set of particularly loud vocal chords, or at least I don't think so."

"Used to," Aurrek muttered under his breath, quirking an eyebrow at the crab. Then he replied to Fell's question in the infant's behalf: "His name's Kelreid."
He peeked into the pram as well and gave the infant his best cheesy grin as he said in a really forced talking-to-babies voice, "Do something cute, Kelreid!"
Kelreid sniffled and tried to summon up a river of tears, but, failing in that, settled for pouting, then grinning, then waving ever so slightly with both arms.
The crab shook it's claws at everyone in general in a sort of world-hating gesture, and clamped down firmly onto Aurrek's hand.
The hourglass god's eyelid twitched as the crab pinched him, but he made no move to pry the crab off of his own skin. For the moment.

Blackfell looked up at the man as he said the name, before turning back to the baby. "Hiya Kelreid, I'm Blackfell." He said, with another infectious grin on spreading on his face as the baby started waving his arms.
Niko smiled at the baby; she loved children, and found them unbearably lovable. She made a little playful face him, bending down a little so she was on eye level. "Aww, you're such a big boy Kelreid! I'm sure your daddy's proud of you." She said, grinning at the baby and tickling him lightly on his belly.

A pained look crossed Aurrek's face for the tiniest fraction of a second as the woman used the word "daddy". "I'm not really his daddy," the god pleaded, giving a slight uncomfortable grin. "The little one just showed up on my doorstep one day."
He glanced around a moment, then ventured to ask, in a hushed voice, the question that had been troubling him for a while since his own arrival on Gaia, and Kelreid's appearance: "... Does that happen often here in Gaia? Kids just... showing up?"
The hourglass god dearly hoped it would not happen again.
Kelreid perked up a little more at the praise and attention, but did not go into full-out happy squealing baby mode. Much to Aurrek's relief. He sniffled a little, wiped awkwardly at his nose with a chubby fist, and, once he had succeeded at smearing little baby boogers all over his face, grinned and cooed.
