Well, seeing as most posts are talking about them playing in the basement..I figured, I'd ask people why is it that most people play Fatal Frame in the basement? I to played it in the basement and ever since I played Fatal Frame in the basement, the basement just freaked me out- Especially since the door randomly opened when we were playing the game. But still- Why do most people play Fatal Frame in the basement? Is it like a thing or something?

Well I've never played fatal frame in a basement (because our house doesn't have one) buuuut I could take a (in my opinion) really good guess.
I think people play in the basement because the basement can be dark all day long and most people like to play the Fatal Frame series (and other survival horror games) in the dark because it adds to the atmosphere. Also, basements in general usually can be pretty scary anyway. So, like, while you're playing, a scary noise could come from upstairs or in the pipes or something and it might totally help you be super scared!!
Puuuu I wish we had a basement in our house!!
...and by the way that sounds soooo scary!! (the door opening thing)

I guess- But me and my cousins just decided we wanted to play it in the basement. We didn't even say anything to eachother, as soon as we came into the house, Fatal Frame 2 in my hands, we grabbed the PS2 and went downstairs...Lol.
But you're right, it does add to the atmosphere...as for the door thing- Yea, it got me totally paranoid. Not to mention, that right now, I keep hearing creaks or somebody walking up the steps- And I'm upstairs...I get paranoid and scared easily... x__O

Lol. I remember going back to school the next day, it was around halloween-ish time, and they were talking about ghosts, and you know how everyone thinks that ghosts are just white sheets? I was imagining woman and box and I swear, I was freaking out. Wow, we're really off topic..

lol Yah, we're off topic, but nobody else has replied yet. Hehe, maybe we can just keep talking about basements randomly. Like, my made up basement, which we don't even have in our house, is totally haunted. It's got coffin shapes cut into the walls and crazy bones everywhere...It's insane that I randomly just imaginarily (lol, that's not a word) and instinctively played Fatal Frame down there without even thinking about it! It was so creepy.
The ghosts in fatal frame are so memorable and scary...It's incredible how just the slightest of things can trigger a memory of that game...

xD Hehe, that was pretteh funny..
That's also another thing I dislike about it- Once you play it, you never forget one ghost..It's just stuck in your head.

I always play fatal frame my basement. I think it adds to the effect because it's always dark and all of the creaks and bangs, like you said. I mostly play it down there because if I play it on the main floor, there's always people walking around and the sun shines on the tv while i'm playing and the game isn't as good.
One time I was playing fatal frame and I swear I heard someone whisper my name in my ear. I'm afraid to go down there now but I still like to play in the basement... just now I bring a dog.
Very off topic but why do dogs make people feel better about that sort of thing? It's not like the dogs could ever do anything if anything happened but they still make people feel safer. I don't get why I do it sweatdrop

Well, my dad has a really really small basement, it's like a room that could fit three single beds side by side and thats it. That was where the system was, so that's where I played. There's a secret passage in the basement that leads to a sealed off part of the house, so I was KINDA freaked about that... lol

I dont have a basement (we're too close to sea level.) But, I went over to LadyYuna's house and played it in her basement.
I guess theres just something naturally creepy about basements. (But LadyYuna's house is just terrifying all around.)
