We got the DS demo unit in at work tonight.

I was going to put off getting one in the chance that Nintendo might release different colours, but after playing the Metroid:Hunters demo for about 5 minutes, I put $20 down on one.

And I don't even life FPS games.

The system looks absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait to own one. I played with the one kid that always comes in using the wireless connection thingie, and I toyed around with pictochat for a bit.

Most of the games I -really- want aren't coming out until January or later, but the metroid demo and Mario 64x4 should keep me occupied til then.

On an unrelated note, I found this quote, and thought it applies quite nicely to videogames:

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger,
more complex, and more violent.
"It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage --
to move in the opposite direction."
-Albert Einstein

K, I'm done.

Cosign.

I shall begin saving for a DS unit, lest the Gaming Gods smite me for my ignorance.

I'm not sold yet. My GBA SP is still my best friend when it comes to portables, and the DS has yet to show me anything which would convince me that it is better 3nodding

Its not a GBA. And its not just two screens. Yes, it has two screens, but one is a touch screen, used for many games already. Then, there is the voice activation, which can beused for vocally participating in a game(go figure) and it has wireless built in.

Ive been sold on the damn thing since I first heard about it. Im excited, Ive got my money down, and Im getting it first thing in the morning next Sunday.

The touch screen is the biggest issue for me. It seems way too unwieldy a concept for playing games. I suppose that can't be said for sure without trying it, but I'm still quite satisfied with my GBA SP, and until that changes I'm not going to go spend 150 bucks or whatever it is on a DS.

Edit: I'd not remembered the pic found in the "Camera whores" thread, and only today have they been gathered in one place...at the time I made this post, Baph's pic had yet to load for me. Now things are running more smoothly, and it did indeed load. My apologies.

It was using the touchscreen to play Metroid Prime:Hunters that made me put the money down right away. you use the touch screen to look around, and the arrows to move forward, backward, left, right. I liked it much better than an analog stick, or another d-pad, because you have SO MUCH control over how far you turn in a certain direction. you also tap the touchscreen to jump. AND the ball-thingie, missiles and a few other commands need only be touched on the little screen to be used.
(Again, this coming from a girl who -hates- FPS games)

The touch pad would take a little getting used to, I suppose, if you were -used- to analog sticks and d-pads, but I personally found it much more enjoyable to use.

No, Nintendo has not hired me to promote for them, as another friend asked me. -_-()

Hehe.. and about the pics thread... yeah... I finally got un-lazy yesterday.
