The little pup yawned, making her way through the forest. The afternoon sun was glaringly hot, despite the comfortable shade of the woods surrounding her. The breeze was warm, feeling more like summer than spring! Would it never end, the white puppy thought dismally. The heat was nice, but today it was almost unbearable! This much heat made her groggy and sleepy. It wasn't fun at all.

Of course, the little red-eared female had never been through summer. The heat-wave would break within a few days, and the cooling touch of spring would once again reign. If Amarii thought today was hot, she'd be up for one heck of a surprise come mid-summer. Ah, the joy of innocence.

Two ears flicked back, and the little pup listened for her mother and Mayrii. They were in the vacinity, but even if she didn't place Ravii's footsteps, Amarii knew her mother was never far away. She kept a close eye on her children - there was no such thing as 'escape'.

Amarii knew what happened when she wandered too far away, or didn't tell her mother where she was traveling. Ooooh, the cream furred females wrath was not something Amarii wanted to see again! It wasn't ever fun. . . .

Still, her mother allowed them some freedom. She could travel to the lake and back for a drink or a swim. Usually they went as a family, but sometimes Ravii needed to hunt and had to trust her children to be smart and stay safe. They were quite independent for children - there wasn't much of a pack to coddle them, though Ravii did do her best.

Pink tail wagging behind her, the petite femme got distracted by a passing dragonfly. It buzzed past her ear, causing the little female to jump. Forgetting the river, she yipped and took off after the speeding bug. Zig-zagging, pouncing, and trying desperately to catch it in her claws, Amarii failed horribly at hunting.

She had a lot to learn.

Bounding through the underbrush, her mother, her sister, and her 'restrictions' from wandering were completely forgotten. There was a dragonfly to eat (even if she didn't really know where it had flown).

Well, if this wasn't the best way to spend the day. Hot weather was bad, almost unbearable for the lone wolf. Yet, for whatever reason, winter wasn't as bad. Regardless, he still felt oddly uncomfortable during both winter and summer. In between, in fall and spring, was usually when the wolf felt at least somewhat comfortable.

But the heat caused him to be almost irritable. He vaguely thought back to a time where that would've matter. Luckily for him, it didn't. The way he acted around other wolves didn't matter, so at least his bad mood wouldn't exactly damper any friendships he had.

Harvey trudged through the forest, keeping low down to the ground. He wasn't hunting, but rather, making sure he wasn't seen. Wandering wolves often made him nervous, almost skittish. He wanted to remain ducked down, out of sight, almost at an advantage if another wolf were to wander by.

But no, that's not what he saw. He had been trying to get to the lake--which he recalled was in this particular direction-- to possibly sit in the shallower part of the water in order to cool down. Unbeknownst to him, he was going in the wrong direction.

So instead of seeing a large body of cool, refreshing water, he saw a pup. Oh, great. He found pups a bit more tolerable than older wolves; they couldn't hunt, and though he wasn't at all strong, he could easily overpower them. Though he knew pups weren't, or shouldn't be, willing to take on an adult, he at least took satisfaction in the fact that he wasn't so weak and malnourished that he couldn't keep a pup from starting anything.

Pausing, he watched the pup. He had his head fully turned in order for him to see her, his good eye staring at it intently, his blind eye just lazily staring straight ahead. It was almost amusing to watch the poor thing chase the dragonfly, though he still felt uncomfortable with allowing himself to be seen by anyone, so he continued to creep by, homing to remain unseen.

"Foolish child." He murmured to himself, his voice a mixture of amusement and distaste.

If the partially blind, black and brown wolf had thought he'd get away from Amarii then he was sadly mistaken. Perhaps he could have continued his path in peae without murmuring such words. . . but . . . he had spoken. Sharp, puppy ears swiveled and landed directly upon the sound of his voice.

Evne more, she heard the most faint ruffles of dead grass, footsteps padding away. Dragonfly forgotten, the puppy promptly swiveled around and found herself staring at another wolf!

And this one wasn't at all like Alina! He looked more like her mother, except not at all. . .

Instead of being gentle creams and violets, he was black and brown and white all over! Well, logic told her, maybe not all over but she could pick out a splotch on his neck. Mostly, he was black.

Very unbright in her opinion, the poor thing. Wolves should be more bright.

Trotting over to him, red tassle wagging delightedly behind her, the petite femme offered him a friendly smile. Her mothers blood ran in her, which meant she couldn't possibly be friendly to a stranger! Eros, too, had been naturally extrovertered and confidence, which lead to the little princess now fast bridging the distance between them.

Trotting with the creeping wolf, Amarii giggled. He looked so funny creeping close to the ground. "What are you hiding from? Why do you walk so funny?" She whispered, as if he were hiding from invisible creatures. Maybe he really was? If that were the case, she didn't want to raise her voice and give out his hiding place.

Maybe this was like hide and go seek? If Harvey was hiding, who was doing the seeking? Maybe they'd let her play the game too! Amarii knew she was most excellent at seeking out others.

Big mistake. Being a wolf himself, Harvey should've realized that even the quietest murmur could attract the attention of another. But no, he had to go and speak his mind. He gazed toward the pup, almost pained to see he had gotten her attention.

Continuing to creep through the forest, he didn't have any intention to stop for the brightly color pup. Now, he wasn't as foolish as this pup appeared. He knew that this jumpy, bouncy ball of fur couldn't possibly hurt him. The mere fact that she was definitely energetic and friendly bothered him.

Not to go and say he didn't like friendliness, oh no. He enjoyed the few wolves he had encountered, for they had let him go without more than a second glance. Something told him this pup was going to be a chore. She could probably attract the attention of nearby wolves. Whether it was because of her bright colors, leading to some inability to blend in the way he always had, or perhaps the fact that she seemed like the type that was pretty talkative. Even with his small murmur, she had found him. If she were to talk to him, there was no doubt that someone else would notice him.

Harvey's assumption of her bothered him. He gazed at the young one, before looking to either side. Well, at least she was quiet. Just the fact that she began to follow him made him unhappy, no matter how well she could keep from attracting attention. But, seeing how she seemed to figure out how to follow along with what he was doing, he decided he'd humor the pup.

"I'm not hiding..I just don't want to be bothered." He replied, wondering if the pup would get the hint. "And I'm not walking funny. This is how you keep possible predators from finding you; a skill I've mastered, foolish one."

Pausing, he looked back down at her. "But of course, I doubt you're old enough to even bother with learning such tactics for survival. And, then again, you may not end up in such a sorry position as I'm in."

The little puppy continued to follow the black male, her red and pink ears pricked with interest. She showed no fear at his words, even at his hints of wishing to be alone. In fact, Amarii hardly even heard that he called her a fool! "I'm Amarii," she corrected the male with an off-handed shrug. She wasn't named foolish, this stranger was silly!

Trotting along, mimicking his strange crouch, the white princess gave a little giggle. "If you don't want to be in a sorry position, you should stand upright! Then you wouldn't be so small." It was true - if he started walking like all the other wolves did, then his pose would change. If he thought he was so sorry walking like that, then all he needed to do was unbend his legs.

It made sense to Amarii.

"I don't know any predators," she whispered, tassle wagging happily behind her. "What ones are looking for you?"

This wolf seemed to know a lot. Ravii had told her about bigger animals that might eat her - hawks, and bears and the like, but she'd never met one. Maybe this stranger had? And if he was trying to get away from them, did that mean they were nearby? Gold eyes widened and she looked around, a bit self-conciously.

"Are they . . are they after you now?" Uh-oh.

Amarii might have to call her mother if that were the case. Ravii would know what to do!

Continuing to slink along, the wolf's ears flattened against the back of his head. Although he was usually quite timid around other wolves, and tried to be polite so they wouldn't want to start anything, something about pups just irritated him. No matter what, it seemed, it was hard to mask up the irritation to try to act polite and he usually did.

"Harvey." He murmured, glancing down at the pup for a moment. She seemed nice enough, he decided, but it didn't mean he really wanted her company. "No, no. That's not what I meant. You'll learn when you're as old as me, if not anytime soon." Harvey decided to come to a full stop as this next question was asked, and he took a moment to think about it.

"Predators can be anything from bears, larger wolves..just about any other creature that's bigger than yourself, one that could easily attack you and possibly kill you." He spoke seriously to her, hoping that would help him get his point across. Part of him felt bad, but he knew it was something she'd either be told or figure out on her own, like he had.

"No one's after me right now, I'm making sure I don't bump into them." He nodded, and lazily settled down onto a small patch of grass. If she would let him play 'survival teacher', maybe it wouldn't be so bad to allow the pup to talk to him. At least she wasn't hopping around, chasing more dragonflies, or doing much of anything else that would make her easily seen or heard.

"Has no one ever told you about the dangers of being away from others, child? For you really shouldn't be alone, way out here, without knowing these things, or an older wold to keep you safe." Tilting his head to the side slightly, he continued to watch the pup. What type of parent let their pup wander so far off from where most wolves were?
