Located to the west of the
S.S. Anne dock, Vermillion City Gym used to be run by the tough-as-nails former Army commander, Lieutenant Surge. Following Surge's reassignment to the Seafoam Army, and subsequent death sometime after that, his former Gym was recently taken up by Mitsune Konno, known among friends as "Kitsune" for her fox-eyed expression as well as her devious schemes.
During her time as Leader, Kitsune has considerably changed the gym. Whereas it used to be a militaristically-spartan facility containing electronic security devices, Kitsune removed all of these features to install a full karaoke bar in the main area of the Gym. Because of this, she usually is drunk when accepting challenges from trainers, but being intoxicated does not seem to hamper her ability to deal significant defeats to cocky trainers.
