Gankutsuou is an anime series that is loosely based on Alexandre Dumas' classic, The Count of Monte Cristo. It still deals with themes of vengeance and redemption, but where the novel was told through the point of Edmond Dantès, AKA Number 34, AKA Sinbad the Sailor, AKA Abbé Busoni AKA Lord Wilmore, AKA the Count of Monte Cristo (do you have have enough aliases, good lord man sweatdrop ), Gankutsuou follows the story of Albert de Morcerf, who doesn't appear until later in the story in novel canon. Also, the story takes place in the future. In space. And it's really gay in all sorts of ways. heart

He's just Albert's friend, but Eugenie is a lesbian (in the book) so you've got to wonder in maybe Albert and Franz 'experimented' a bit together. 'Eugenie likes being with girls, maybe I should try being with boys...' wink

Well, technically he's just Albert's friend in the anime too, but damn if he isn't gay as all hell. XP

I've been thinking about reading it, but it's so loooong. gonk
