The silver goddess traveled slowly and quietly through the grasses, her wings spreading out and touching just the top of the blades. Her mouth was set and her eyes were alive with great determination. After much work and hassle, she had finally traced her own bloodline. She was a grandmother many times over. It seemed that Masuka had given birth to a son, who had then sired three cubs, and two of those cubs had had cubs of their own in turn.

Koya was a great-great-grandmother. And now she was going to see one of her great-great-grandchildren, if only she could find them. She knew their general whereabouts, but not their exact locations.

Oh, if only she had been more trained in tracking! Or perhaps if her powers were better... it didn't matter. There was no use wishing for things that she'd never have, she knew. So she shook the thoughts from her mind and simply concentrated on her task at hand: finding her extended family.

Moving silently through the Pridelands, she hoped that she wouldn't be discovered. She wasn't in the mood to use her illusion trick, so if anyone came upon her there was no telling what they would do. A stranger in their own lands, and a goddess no less. There was no telling what could come of it.

So the goddess quickened her steps, praying to whatever that she found her great-great-granddaughter soon.

"Come on dad!"

Grunt.

"Daddy!! Come on, I want to get out before I miss everything!"

What was there to miss? Nevertheless, large purple male Ashki stirred himself and forced himself to wake up from his nap. Or maybe it wasn't a nap. Opening his blue eyes, he noticed that the morning had barely begun. Amesi had woken him up so early! He groaned and covered his face with a paw, trying to shut out the sun.

His daughter giggled beside him and forced herself between his paw and face, shoving it away playfully. "Come on, you are so lazy daddy!"

Ash chuckled and peered at his daughter through squinted eyes. "What's so wrong with sleeping? You should try it sometime, Amesi." He laughed again when his black and white daughter made at face at his suggestion, as if that was the most repulsive thing she had ever heard. Sitting himself up, the large male yawned great and wide, revealing all of his sharp teeth.

"All right, what is it Amesi?"

"I want to go exploring!"

"Of course you do," he chuckled. How had he not guessed that? "Okay, come on," he said, rising slowly to his large paws. Amesi giggled and leaped up immediately, an endless bank of energy.

"Yay!" she cried, as her and her father set off.

As Koya walked along, her sensitive ears picked up the sound of pattering paws along the ground. She ducked low instinctively, thinking that it was some patrol of the Pridelands coming to check out the intruder: her. Although her bright silver fur stood out among the grasses, she did her best to remain hidden and silent while still watching the approaching lions through the grass.

At first the voices were indistinct, murmurs in the wind. The goddess resisted the urge to move closer. The others would move closer, she kept telling herself. And indeed they did.

"Where are we going?" one voice spoke. It belonged to a male, mature and probably rather large too.

"I don't know... anywhere!" came the giggling response. Smaller, and female. Probably a cub of some sort.

Koya inched forward, hoping not to rustle the grasses so much that the others thought much about it. Maybe if they just thought she was a small prey animal they wouldn't pay attention to her. After all, they didn't seem to be hunting either.

Finally managing to catch a glance at the other lions, her eyes widened slightly as she saw the cub. The male she ignored instantly, for the time being. He was purple and not of any concern to her. But the cub...

She was white, with black across her back, the same black dots that Koya herself had (or similar anyways), those startling blue eyes, and the stripes across her shoulders and thighs. But the marking that stood out the most was that curse mark upon her shoudler, the one that her daughter possessed, her daughter--

"Masuka!"

Ashki chuckled and pranced around with his daughter, enjoying the time alone they got to spend with each other. He loved his whole family, but he was particularly protective over Amesi because of her condition, a condition in which didn't seem to bring down her spirit at all. And that was what he loved most about her.

"Hey now, don't wander off too far," he spoke, as Amesi bounded forward a few paces. "Where are we going?"

"I don't know... anywhere!" his daughter giggled, flicking her tail happily as she stopped and looked back towards him with shining eyes. She loved her father so much! She couldn't understand how anyone could have treated him the way his old pride did, back when he was a cub.

But she shook her head, telling herself that his past didn't matter. Her mother often told her that Ash's past didn't matter, since he had a loving family to think about.

"Come on daddy we gotta--" But the juvenile was suddenly cut off by a silver form appearing from seemingly nowhere yelling something she didn't understand. Was it a name?

"Wh-what?" she stammered, feeling very small compared to the lioness with wings--WINGS? Amesi's jaw suddenly hung open as she gaped at the figure in front of a her. A lioness with wings could only mean one thing: this was a goddess!

"DADDY!"

Koya panicked for a moment, her wings fluttering frantically as she hesitated about putting an illusion over them to make herself look like a normal lion. But it was too late, the little girl had already seen her wings and there would be no hiding the fact that she was a goddess now. Oh, and her father! She shrank back instinctively, feeling that she would surely be kicked out now.

"Hello m'dears," she said softly, hoping to come off as elderly and not in the least bit harmful. The male had come quickly with his daughter's cry, and he had stopped quite suddenly when he had spotted the silver beauty standing before him.

Another goddess!

First there was the one who had wanted Vinaya to be her pride's future queen, and now there was this goddess. How had he deserved such luck?

"Amesi," he spoke, herding her closer to him with a sweep of his paw. She protested slightly, not wanting to stray far away from the goddess. She had finally found one! She had told her friends that she was going to hunt down gods and meet them and make friends with them, but never once had she actually thought that she would meet one so soon!

Clearing his throat, the father eyed the goddess respectfully.

"How may we help you, miss?" he said politely, hoping not to offend her. He didn't know what she was the goddess of, and he didn't want to get on her bad side if she happened to be the goddess of pain.

But Koya was too preoccupied with Amesi. She had those same shoulder stripes, that same marking, those same blue eyes and those same dots under her eyes. There was no doubting it now. But she couldn't believe how lucky she had been to find her so quickly. She had thought that in a place such as the Pridelands finding one single individual would have been very difficult and time consuming.

"Oh, my apologies," she said finally, coming out of her trance. "I have come searching for someone, but now I believe I've found her."

Ashki sat a respectful distance away from the goddess, his daughter confined within the boundaries of his forelegs and paws. But she was squirming and squeaking, anxious to get away from her father and get a closer look at the goddess. But her father rumbled slightly and tried to get her to sit still.

"Amesi, please! Show some respect," he spoke, his voice hushed. He glanced uneasily at the goddess, not wanting to offend her. But when he looked up at her he was slightly surprised to see that she was smiling warmly at them.

"Do not worry," she spoke softly. "I don't take offense easily. Besides, I know she must be excited to meet someone like... me. It's perfectly understandable. There aren't many of my kind that like to walk among the mortals or, if they do, sometimes they don't reveal themselves." Of course, she didn't mention that she had tried to hide herself as well. They could live without knowing that bit of information.

"But I was wondering if you could help me. Is this child a descendant of Masuka?" she asked, although she already knew the answer. She didn't have to touch the child this time to know her bloodline. This was her great great granddaughter.

Koya merely waited patiently after she had asked her question. She already knew the answer to her question, but she didn't want to seem too extraordinary to them. She didn't think the cub minded so much, but it appeared as if the father were going to have a heart attack soon if something wasn't done to make the situation calmer.

And, even with the goddess' reassurance that she wasn't easily offended, Ashki felt that things were slowly going downhill. He never really was controlling, and he found it hard to keep his white and black daughter confined within his paws. She wanted to get out and see the goddess more closely, and it seemed that the purple male could do nothing to stop her from doing so.

"Lemme go, dad!" she cried, leaping forward only to be caught by one of his huge paws. "Daaaaad," she sniffled and coughed, her heart working overtime. Alarmed, Ashki set her down and licked the top of her head.

"Amesi, please calm down," he spoke desperately. "You know what happens if you overwork yourself." And Ash knew all too well the sickness that his daughter had. His mother had had it, and he had passed it down to her. Now she was suffering, and he felt like it was all his fault. Frowning, he watched Amesi closely as she heaved and sat still, attempting to catch her breath. Finally, she was able to breathe normally. Her blue eyes then turned up to Koya.

Ashki, too, looked at the silver lioness. "Masuka?" he repeated, flicking his round ears. He wasn't sure if he had heard her right. "I'm afraid I can't tell you that, as I don't really know." It shamed him to admit, but he didn't know anyone in Kit's family aside from her father. And even her father he'd never met.

"I'm sorry if I cannot be of any help."

Shaking her head, Koya fluttered her wings. "Do not worry. I have a way of telling. May I?" she asked, motioning with her wings towards the cub. "I am the goddess of the past. If I simply touch her I can see her bloodline."

Amazed, Ash only nodded his head and stood off to the side a little so that Amesi wouldn't be crowded with two adults looming over her. "Amesi, stay still," he ordered, though his voice was very soft and almost worried. He didn't want her to have another fit like before.

Amesi sat quietly, still silently recovering from her little fit. Her father thought that she was okay again, but her heart was still pounding uncontrollably in her chest. After a minute or two, however, the feeling faded away and she had the strength to move around again. Which was why she began wiggling excitedly when she found out that the goddess would touch her.

Moving closer, the silver lioness smiled warmly, reassuringly, and stretched out her wings. "I promise you won't notice a thing," she spoke quietly, before placing her wings on the little girl's shoulders. Amesi shook with happiness, but with a silent look from Koya she forced herself to stay still.

With the cub now fully still, Koya focused herself. She closed her eyes and let her powers work, looking through the cub's past. At first she went through her short life, seeing everything in a flash. Since that wasn't what she was looking for, she went back even farther, back in her parents' history and their parents' history. Finally she found what she was looking for, and it pleased her greatly.

Pulling away, she could barely contain her joy. Looking up to Ashki, she smiled and nodded her head. "She is the one I've been looking for. She is my great great granddaughter."

Amesi was sad when the goddess pulled away from her only moments after she had reached out and touched her with her wings. Nothing had happened! Koya had said she wouldn't feel anything, but she was hoping that there would at least have been something! Not feeling anything wasn't any fun at all.

Pouting slightly, she sat back upon her haunches and curled her tail around her. Yet then her round ears perked as Koya began talking, and the words coming from her lips were simply too good to be true. Neither cub nor father could really believe their ears. Both stared at the goddess, their mouths hanging open in astonishment. Could what she said really be true? Ash had never asked Kit, and she had never mentioned anything. But then again, it was possible that she didn't know, right? And he knew for sure that he wasn't related to the goddess. He had come from a lowly slave life.

"Wh-what?" Ashki finally stammered,

"My great great granddaughter," Koya repeated automatically, understanding the father's amazement. It wasn't every day one's child was revealed to be a descendant of a goddess. "She is the one I've been searching for."

Finally Amesi couldn't contain herself. She had tried to keep herself in check because of her heart, but this was just something that required a bit of rejoicing.

"DADDY A GODDESS IS MY GRANDMA!!" she exclaimed, leaping to her paws and zipping around her father. "How come you never TOOOOLD ME? I've been wanting to meet a goddess all this time and I've had one for a grandma all along!" she blurted, turning back to Koya. "This is SO GREAT!" she giggled, bounding forward and nuzzling against Koya's leg instantly.

The sudden feeling of having someone touch her was quite startling, to say the least. It had been years since she had last gotten any affection from anyone, and so it took some getting used to. Smiling nervously, she nodded her head and lowered it to see eye to eye with her little family member.

"That's right, and we'll be spending a lot more time together, I can tell you that." But then she looked up at Ashki. "That is, if your father will allow it."

Amesi turned to her father immediately, eyes wide and pleading. "Pleeeeaaase, daddy? Oh please, oh please!" she begged.

Ashki was still having the hardest time adjusting to the fact that his mate and his children were related to a goddess. It was simply mind boggling! He had always thought they were wonderful and beautiful beyond his comprehension, but never had he thought this would have been possible. Yet, here he was, face to face with his mate's great grandmother and his children's great great grandmother. They were so closely related!

Suddenly the white and black female lunged forward and butted her head against her father's leg. "DAD!" she cried, trying to snap him out of his trance. And it worked, for he jumped slightly and looked around wild-eyed.

"Daddy," she said again. "Can I pleeeeaaase spend time with Gran?" she asked, showing that she had already fully accepted the goddess as her grandmother by using the affectionate term. Koya smiled and Ash relaxed slightly. He was over his little freak out and now he was actually thinking straight.

"Well I suppose that is alright. But you will have to check with your mother, too," he added quickly. He didn't want to get in trouble with Kit by letting their sickly daughter wander around with someone Kit didn't even know she was related to.

But even though her father had only partly said yes, she knew that it would be okay with her mother. Just as soon as she knew that she had a goddess for a grandma too! Completely thrilled, Amesi nearly squeed with glee as she hopped around and giggled to herself. Ash frowned slightly, afraid that she would overexert herself again.

"Amesi, please," he begged. "Calm down." But she was far from listening to reason. Turning back to her great great grandmother, she beamed and stomped her paws excitedly. "We're going to have so much fun together! I'll show you ALL of the Pridelands and we can go everywhere together." Nodding, she narrowed her eyes and began mumbling to herself about her life plans, ones that now included Koya. She was so excited! They would become inseparable, and she'd show off to all of her friends the goddess that she found--her own great great grandmother! They would be so surprised.

Meanwhile, the two adults looked to each other. Koya smiled and Ashki returned it with his own sheepish one. "Sorry about her... if she gets too much, just talk to me or my mate." Although, he figured he shouldn't be telling her what to do. After all, she was Amesi's grandmother. He gave another sheepish smile.

The goddess simply looked at him warmly. "Do not worry, I understand. I hope not to have her too much of the time, as then she won't get to spend time with her parents. But, when I have her, I assure you that I will take care of her to the best of my abilities. You need not worry about her wandering off and falling terribly sick when you aren't around. If you aren't with her, then I am." Ashki's eyes widened slightly. He greatly appreciated what the goddess was doing, but he didn't understand how she knew about Amesi's weak heart.

Koya chuckled slightly to herself. "I know things some might expect me not to know. When I looked into her past, I saw it. She's had it since the day she was born. I've seen this illness before, and so I know what to do. You can count on me."

Ashki nodded, completely relieved. Now he wouldn't have to spend his time away from Amesi pulling his fur out with worry. He could be positive now that she would be watched over always, either by himself or Kit or now this goddess. She would have the best life possible and she'd never be without help.

"Thank you," he whispered, looking over at Amesi lovingly. Koya only nodded her head, turning too to look at her great great granddaughter. She would make up for all the wrongs she did to Masuka. She had to.
