You're thinking of the Asguard/Asgard/Azgard, my money is on the middle one. I'm too lazy to be bothered with searching for the real name, but the little grey aliens, like Thor, as Asgard.

And congrats on getting into the show, it's by far my favourite show of all time and they've been saying its going end since the 4th season, so hopefully it will not be the end, though I don't entirely like how they recycled nearly the entire cast from Farscape into the show. They already have one young, high ranking officer in the side bar show, Colonel Sheperd and I think bringing in another is overkill, the whole reason I got into the show was because of RDA, McGyver was the man and I love how O'Niell deals with situations and I feel like the new guy, whose name is lost on me, is pretty much a cookie cut of Jack, and is also his long begotten son.

Anywho, it really doesn't matter if the series ends or not, since Atlantis will carry on the legacy. I'm of the high opinion that the new cast will become every bit as good as the former cast, but I'm kinda biased since the all knowing science geek character is a self-obsessed Canadian and being from Canada I just like him because he reminds me of me. Not to mention there are 10 full seasons to watch, that's well over 200 episodes to watch and most of them are just amazing, RDA brings so much to that show its amazing.

Stargate SG1 originally aired on Showtime (I think). Afterwards, it was picked up by the SciFi channel who went on to make many more episodes (ten seasons in all), and a spinoff called Stargate Atlantis. Now that it has been cancelled, they are making two movies and another spinoff.

If you do not even know the name of the Asgard, you should not be sad it is ending. You can buy or rent all the past seasons and watch those. You will like them and they will explain a lot.
