Ment looked up at Abigale to re-explain what he had already done previously, "That Scent is called 'Dark Carnival'. It's supposed to remind you about a circus, and stuff. I've never been to one, so I don't exactly know what A circus looks like." He explained, taking a whiff at it.

The smoke from the oil rose into the air and twirled around, with little clowns, and little elephants, and a creepy looking ring master. The clock read 20 minutes till 12. And the oil looked like ti was about to spring into life...

It had been a while since he lost sight of Crystal. He had taken the times to greet others. However, it felt as if something was missing. Without Crystal's prescence he felt...almost awkward. He had not felt anything like this before, this attachment to another female. He shruddered at the idea, and decided that it wasn't worth it to waste the entire night thinking and trying to find her, who was not even part of the elite society. But then again, a lot of the guests here, despite their gorgeous masks and fascinating dresses/tuxes, had an air of the lower class. Irene was sensitive to that, although he made sure that little prejudice was shown on his part. He did not want to offend anyone, but it was, at the same time, hard for him to converse with them. For now, however, that was the only thing he could do in order to block his thoughts of Crystal away. So he wandered around, nodding and smiling to everyone despite their reactions. He danced with a few ladies, and tried to avoid that fox-man who had punched him earlier. Time passed slowly, and Irene almost wished that Crystal would appear again...thus drawing his mind back to the girl.

The room smelled funny. Irene's nose twitched and his body shivered. A flash of his darkest memory of being locked up fleeted across his mind.

Well, that punishment seemed inevitable. Might as well have fun in the ball while he could.

Nicollo woke a bit earlier this day. He ached everywhere from his emotion draining dance. He got up, throwing off his black nightcloths in order to put on a silver suit and his azure cape. A golden circlet glinted from under his bangs. He covered it with his blue feathered mask. Brushing his hair, he searched for his shoes. With his ponytail in place and one last yawn, he walked from his room to the streets.

"I wonder if everyone is still sleeping?" he asked himself. He saw a few people here and there, but not the crowd that was here last night. The music was too soft and slow to dance to, so Nicollo went to find some drinks. The scent of the Dark Carnival still lingered around the place making the air heavy and intoxicating. Nicollo sneezed it was so strong now. Picking up some punch of sorts, he wandered aimlessly around in search of a companion to trade words with.

Crystal had finally gotten her dance. In fact, she'd had a few! She was sorely remorseful to have been whisked off before she could speak further to the gorgeous blonde from earlier, but...she'd make sure to seek her out before the ball was over. The dark haired woman was amused that, while she was gliding across the dance floor in the arms of a man, her thoughts turned towards her two female dance partners and the enigmatic royal she had seen earlier.

Her "I'm enjoying this, really!" grin was still smeared on her face, her body moving automatically to the music that lilted off the walls, allowing her mind to ponder such things without being too rude. Of course, there was Irene, who was stubbornly trying to be in the forefront of her mind. Crystal didn't feel that she had the time to think about the young noble; he was no doubt sweeping dozens of women off their feet, being the flirt he was, with that charming smile and his suggestive gaze...

She almost tripped, tightening her grip just the slightest on her partner. Thankfully, she had enough grace to make the motion part of the dance, keeping her false grin alight. She hoped one of her friends would show up soon.

Ment broke off from the woman he was speaking to quickly and dove into the throng of Masqueraders. In and out of lace and satin he dove, reaching out his hand until, YES! SUCCESS!

He looked up at whose hand he had grabbed and noticed it was a man's. It was Irene's. "Hey Mister! You wanna dance with me?" He chirped, batting his eyes graciously at the man before him. Ment wanted to dance, and he cared not with whom it was.

The woman gasped softly when she saw the patterns in the smoke, edging closer to stare into the gray haze lifting from the flame. The dancing light reflected in her glasses, hiding her eyes as she watched.

The smell reminded her of cotton candy and sideshows, of strong men and bearded ladies; everything that made a child believe in fanciful delights and mysical misdirections. It brought a smile to the mummy's face, and Abigale removed the bandages from her face to better smell it. Unfortunately, the bandage brushed the flame as Abby stared at the smoke, and didn't notice when it caught fire....

Irene felt his fingers being tagged by a smaller hand. Figuring that it was probably a young woman's hand, he turned around, putting up a charming smile on his face---only to find no one near his eye level. He blinked, and looked down, noticing, with great disappointment on his part, a small child looking up with a excited grin on his face.

Irene subcouncisously coughed, trying to maintain his stance and smile, which was now fading with the incoming thought of "asked to dance by a man, now asked to dance by a kid??" He turned around just momentarily to try to calm down, and when he felt he was ready, he turned back to the child.

"You want to dance?" Irene smiled faintly, his mind desperately trying to figure out what to say without hurting the kid's feelings. He knelt down, so his eye level was the same as Ment's.

"There are plenty of young ladies out there for an adorable little gentleman like you, would you rather to seek out one of them?"

"You knew I was a boy even though I'm wearin' a purty frilly skirt?" He questioned in amazement, "Wow Mister. You must be like....Psychic!" He chirped, tiwrling his white locks. "I could~ But I wanna dance with you." He muttered, a dissapointed face creeping upon his features.

He looked around for a moment, and smiled. "You wait right here!!! I'm gonna find someone else to dance the Circle Dance with us!" He giggled, running off and grabbing the hand of a young woman. This young woman was Crystal.

Irene blinked, and thought about the words that Ment just said. He was a boy, right? Irene probably said gentleman because he was seeing the worst possibility in front of him...a boy child. He chuckled when the child shared his amusement, but the boy caught him off guard, once again, as he suddenly ran off into the crowd. Irene stood up, looking at the direction in which the boy ran, baffled and surprised by the child's agility. Was he this lively when he was young? If he was, his mother surely had destroyed this by punishing him for not acting like a gentleman.

And did the boy say Circle Dance? Irene covered his face with one palm. Oh boy...

Sati gritted her teeth and stared at the smoke, willing it to stop leisurely twirling and spiraling as if it were alive. Okay, she was mostly trying to convince herself that it wasn't forming little pictures. That's right. Random smoke on the draft. There you go, Sati, it's not that sinister at all.

Sati Kuchhal didn't quite believe herself, but her poise was returning. The smoke was a little strange, but not ominous on its own. Smoke was smoke. It had no will and no malice. Okay. Right. Let's find out what's going on. She waved her bodyguard back into the crowd and started making her way towards the origin of the smoke.

Sati scanned the crowd, singling out those who looked uneasy and those who looked as if they might know which way the wind blew. (Figuritively, of course; Sati had a keen enough sense of direction to know that the breeze drafting through the masquerade was bearing north-east. But regardless.) Ever the consumate businesswoman, she took aside a somber young man and pressed a tiny blown-glass bell and a business card into his hands, saying "Excuse me where is that smoke coming from and good gods why is it so eerie?" The man stared at her blankly, so she moved on, leaving a trail of gems and cards in the hands of the asked, and cries of "AGGGH WHAT PRECISELY IS GOING ON?" in her wake.

Finally she rounded on the tiny scent stall, the smoke mushrooming out of a tiny oil burner. Ah. A scented oil. Sati was vaguely educated on essential oils, as her business partner was raving about adding myrhh and jasmine to their list of goods, but this wasn't a scent she recognized.

And there was a bandaged woman on fire.

Wait, what? This was all getting far, far too strange for Sati, fast. "Madam, you are on fire," she hissed, whipping out a heavy kerchief and trying futilely to smother the flames.

She whipped her head around, her adornments jingling. "A little help!" Sati yelled sternly, glaring into the crowd.

It didn't take long for her to turn from Terrified to Terrifying.

Crystal curtsied to her partner as the music ended to a light smatter of applause. Politely declining a second dance - and thankfully moving quickly enough to avoid the less excuseable insistance that she couldn't refuse - she glided over the floor towards the area where a woman stood with a stand of...candles? Before she could get too close to tell, she felt a light tug on her gloved hand.

The woman turned her stormy gaze downwards, surprised to find a darling little child grinning up at her. It looked like a girl, but...she couldn't be certain, but there was something about the angle of the face that made her uncertain. That could be embarrassing! "Hello young one," she smiled kindly, turning to face the child. "What can I do for you this--" She was interrupted by a call for help, from the direction she had been originally walking in. She couldn't see anything, but there was a strange smell in the air.

Skie listened to the child, glancing up at the display as it named the scent. Dark Carnival? That sounded rather ominous. Looking back, she paused, trying to decide whether or not this pretty child was a boy or girl. She didn't think it polite to ask but before she could decide the child ran away and she shrugged. To each his own, she supposed.

The smell of smoke tickled her nose and the motions of another made her spin around and her eyes went wide. That woman was on fire! Gasping, she stepped forward, hoping to help. Then she noticed that it was the merchant woman who had helped the woman with the bandages. She wondered if she was everywhere at once. It certainly seemed like it.

As Irene was waiting for the child to return, the strange smell in the ball room seemed to have taken a turn from silently pleasing to...dangerously alarming? The young man looked around, not very familiar, yet not very strange to the smell either. It was the smell of something burning, something...or someone?

That bright flare of the flame emitting from Sati was shocking enough to make the young man gulp. Stablizing his gesture, he quickly looked around for something that could possibly exdinguish the fire. A few soft drinks was just around the corner where Sati stood, panicking. It was, however, too far away for Irene to reach, as he was on the other side of the crowd. Irene stomped, anxious about the other lady's safety. Gentleman or not, he was still a human with a heart.

Not able to see any other solutions, Irene dove himself into the crowd in an attmept to get through. His force rebounded on the many people, pushing and pulling him like a strong ocean wave.

"Excuse me----!!!" Irene despertately called out, but his voice was muffled by the music, the chattering, and a few cries from people that have noted the flame.

"You can dance with me and this Mister over there, Pretty Ma'am." He giggled, twirling his skirt around abit. "We need three people to do the Circle Dance, so we can't just do it with two." He explained, giving her puppy dog eyes. "Please come dance with us?"

"O-O-OH!!" Abigale swatted out the flame, bright red in the face when she was extinguished, and mumbled her thanks to the merchant woman. "The-the smoke looked like circus proformers... I tried to get a better look." She felt childish at trying to explain herself, and stepped a bit farther from the flame to go back to watching.

Even after the impending danger was over, and her charred bandage left a faint oder in the air, Abigale once more took to watching the playful smoke portraying now a lady standing on the back of a prancing horse. Sighing deeply, she gave a faint smile. It was enchanting, and perhaps because she delt in the sale of different herbs and oils to produce smells and different things as well that it transfixed her so. It didn't seem to matter what happened just a moment ago.
