I've been great lately. That's because my friend, who is a 15 year old girl with no job, no work experience, and no known boyfriend happened to find herself pregnant. gonk What was worse? She didn't know who the father was. That's right, a 15 year old girl gets around so well that she doesn't realize someone's gotten her pregnant. As you could see, I couldn't let this slide. This baby wouldn't ruin her life, but it would ruin any life she wanted to live, and she's too good of a friend to me to let some parasite dominate and dictate her life. heart
And so, it took about an hour of convincing, because she was generally quite adamantly Pro-Life, but between showing her a good deal of online studies from reputable sources, and presenting more arguments than she knew what to do with, she finally broke down crying and admitted she made a big ******** mistake. But we all make mistakes, don't we? neutral I mean, you can't say you've never just had a little slip up, and something big resulted from messing up something little. She deserved a bit of forgiveness for this one. smile
And so, I spent about 30 minutes looking in the yellow pages, and mapquest for an abortion clinic in the MIDDLE OF TEXAS, and eventually found one two cities over. scream Sure, it was one hell of a drive, but I wasn't about to let her give up the fight for her own freedom just because a map wasn't being nice. And after about 2 hours of driving with her, we finally arrive. And guess what we find? Protesters. We walk by them like they didn't exist, and of course they shouted things at us like 'Murderer', or 'Whore'. I feinted a punch to one, and he shut up quick enough. biggrin
By this point, she's crying with guilt and nervousness, but I hold her hand all through the long wait she's got to go through, and finally when they call her in, I wait in the waiting room, watch the silly protesters, etc. After a good hour, or so, she comes out looking a bit scared. I give her a big hug, ruffle her hair, give her a smile, and tell her she made the right choice. Because that's what friends do. They look out for each other's benefit, and if I didn't, then sue me. dramallama
GD, what would YOU do if your friend had been found pregnant? Would you encourage it? Give 'em a coat hanger?

I have just a few issues with this.
1. The idea that this person thinks his or her best friend is too stupid to make her own choice. It's not, "I'm putting this information from both sides on the table and seeing what you think, and here's what I think," it's, "I'm putting MY side on the table and not giving you a chance to defend your views."
2. Taking advantage of her emotional state and pushing until she broke down crying. Again...there is no, "I understand you need a day to think about this." It's just plain, hammer hammer hammer, okay let's go to the clinic before you can change your mind.
3. That this person doesn't seem to give a damn that this might negatively affect her.
4. "Give 'em a coat hanger?" That says enough right there. Yeah, let's not say 'drive her to the clinic,' let's say something that's dangerous. Because we all know, encouraging your friend to put her life at risk while she takes the life of what she believes is her baby because she can't get any support from you unless she's doing what YOU want her to do is really looking out for her.
I sincerely hope this person is a troll. The one good thing? Later on...

Edit: Many of you are mentioning the fact that I should've been more neutral to the issue, and let her make the decision. While it IS the idea of Pro-Choice, I am not.
Oh good. At least this person isn't claiming to be pro-choice. Last I checked, being pro-choice involved respecting another person's choice, and I also believe they maintain that every woman is different, and saying that because a girl is 15 she should automatically have an abortion even if she doesn't like the idea is pretty much saying, "Except when they're in certain situations, in which case, abortion is always the way to go even if she doesn't want it! Be a good friend, disrespect your friend's choice."
