Introduction
[ISS-00]

Welcome and hello!

This is probably the first guide I've ever created for Maple Story so hopefully it'll turn out well. I wanted to create a guide to help people decide on what class they should become due to this main reason which is: that leveling on Maple as an enduring process so it'd be more productive to stay with one class you enjoy.

If possibly I would create a test somewhat similar to Ragnarok Online (aka iRO) where it would take your personally reference and give you a general idea of what class would probably suit you. But seeing as I have no experience in that matter I'll provide you some general info, some in-depth discussion and my own personal opinion based on my current knowledge which will be updated as much and as recent as to date.

So I'll begin with a table of contents so it'll be easier to navigate through the first page. Just plress ctrl + F and use the code provided with each section to breeze through the first page with ease.

A few words from Keita
[ISS-02]

Keita

Hi, I'd just like to state that I'm not a veteran at this game. I've played for a bit and stopped and then regan playing once more. Most of the info is based on my experience, opinion and the tips from other players and their guides. Please feel free to comment on this guide or provide me with some tips of your own by posting a reply. I'd also like to state that I will NOT be going very in-depth and explain every detail requested. There are guides out there to do that for you where as my guide is to show you which road you should walk down. I will occasionally do a bit of in-depth discussion but it will be brief and to the point. Please do not ask for details unrelating to the topic at hand which I will clearly state now which is mainly: The Pros and Cons of each class and brief opinions and explanations of skills and stats.

Choosing A Class
[CSS-00]

In this section I'll be giving a brief discussion on relating on how you should go about choosing your class. For many people (Like myself) it's quite a headache to choose what class to become. To make things worst, leveling on Maple for most, is a pain seeing as you get higher in status the percentage you gain decreases slowly seeing as you'll be need even more exp than before making leveling to even 1 level time consuming. So it'd be best for most people to choose the right class for you and endure it. But what class should you choose? Let me give you some info about the classes available to you and their descriptions.

But before you even start making a character be sure to choose one first! This is key! Don't neglect this fact at all! Why? I'll tell you why. When you first create a character you'll need to roll your stats. Some fore go this task and take what they get which isn't as all bad just not as wise. You want to maximize your characters stats to make him/her more reliable in training. You can't just randomly place points anywhere, it's completely useless and in the end will make you cry and regret. Be sure to know what character your going to make first. Then build your stats accordingly.

So to start off, when you first create a character you'll be a beginner. The newbie class. It's just a start to the path of your choice. Nothing really great about this class except you'll be ranged attacking with snail shells. But only limited to quantity and mp you can't go far so it makes the 2nd job advancement much more alluring.

Once your off the island and ready to proceed to your 2nd job advancement (Hopefully you built your character properly beforehand) you'll have the choice between 4 classes. And depending on how you built your character will determine what he/she can be since there are requirements to meet before advancing. The 4 class to choose from are the warrior, magician, bowman and the rogue.

The Warrior
The presumously strongest character in strength and defence. Clunky armor and heavy duty weapons is what this class is all about. Dealing damage and taking it is the warriors way. Practically almost invulnerable to everything, besides magic that is but it does have its downsides. For one they're clutter with armor making movement nearly possible. So warriors movements are limited to, well just average movements. To make things even worst with limited versitility in movement your attacking style is purely based on melee! Not only do you have to walk far and long but you can't even attack far! Making chasing some enemies you want to hunt quite annoying.

The Magician
No not like Houdini more like Merlin the wizard. Magicians are able to utilize (To some) spiritual or elemental powers to do their bidding! Nothing but the excitment of watching your magic deal damage and protect you. Why use physical attacks when magic is twice as strong! You may be a fragile little person but with magic your a force to be wreaken with! The great things about mages are their ability to use magic in such a versitile nature. Problem is you're limited by your mana, that and the fact that a catapiller could kick your butt easily. You may have powerful magic but the fact that your vulnerable to physical attacks, well don't be surprised if you can't take more than 1 hit from enemies.

The Bowman
Nothing like hunting prey from a far safe distance. Being able to use a bow is a great skill seeing as you'll be able to hit from afar not worrying about melee combat. And as all range users are, you'll need to be swift in movement to manuaver to proper angles and distances. Just make sure you are FAR from enemies seeing as you specialize in range not melee making a 1 on 1 confrontation...quite undesiring. The great thing is that your stats are quite fairly even and quite high as well in comparison with other classes.

The rogue
The outcast of the bunch. Your a rogue meaning like a rebel, rule-breaker, unlawful, etc. It's obvious your not liked well by the community. But that's what's so cool! Living your own way doing your own things and nothing but selfishness. The rogue is quite the interesting class. It makes money and uses money fast! Just like everything they do. They're swift and quick. Striking enemies with lightning speed leaving everyone else in awe. The most versitile class in movement and combat. Your able to move in deal multiple damage and stealthy and quickly get out. What's even better, your speed and agility makes it almost impossible to get hit! But watch out cause if you do, it's brutal damage but not as bad as the mages. The only real problem is your wallet. Why else do you think rogues steal for?

Introduction of the Beginner Class
[BSS-01]

The beginner as stated is well, a beginner. Pretty self explanitory don't you think? Well we all start out as beginners but some (Mostly people who are bored or want to try something new) choose this path. Why? Well it's it fun to run around in your undies and kill steal people when your a newbie looking character? Then watch their expression as they stare in awe of your uber newb-ness. Basically, this class is all in good fun. Nothing special but interesting benefits.

Discussion of Stats
[BSS-02]

So being a beginner is quite horrid. Your stats are way below everyone's and also you get no bonuses to up your stats really. For example if you've made 2nd advancement with a warrior you get way more HP and a bit of MP. But seeing as a beginner and you don't advance at all you get nothing. So beginners are really just lazy newbish characters. So then how would you distribute your stats accordingly? It's really not important seeing as you won't get far but really it's totally up to you. You want power? Add STR. Want to be able to hit things? Add DEX. The only useless stat is INT because beginners can't use magic so therefore a waste of points to add magical attack strength when you can't really use magic to begin with. Overall stats are just plain below average and useless nonetheless for a beginner really so not much to say except don't expect to make it far.

In depth look at Skills
[BSS-03]

Beginners have only 3 skills. 2 out of the 3 have cool down times so they're useless to you after one usage. It's more of fun and help at the spur of the moment.

Three Shells (Active) - Mastery lvl.3
Level 3: Red Snail Shell -1, -20mp; 40 Damage
This skill probably quite important to beginners allows you to throw snail shells at monsters. It's the only taste of range attacking you'll get. Nothing great with the damage consistantly being 40. It helps quite a bit at lower levels though.

Recovery (Supportive) - Mastery lvl.3
Level 3: -30mp; Recover up to 72hp in 30secs
Also quite vital seeing as it'll be your only healing ability. Clerics have heal, Chief Bandits with Chakra, Assassins with Drain and you, well 72hp recover is the best you can do. At least you'll save a bit on HP pots. Although the cool down time is 10mins

Nimble Feet (Supportive) - Mastery lvl.3
Level 3: -20mp; An speed increase of +20 for 12secs
Just another fun skill to play with. It increases your speed quick well. Not as much as Haste would be I suppose 12secs of speed would make running away from terrifying monster okay. Just make sure you get someone safe in those 12secs seeing as there's a 15min cool down time.

Keita's Words
[BSS-04]

Keita

What more can I say? Beginners in my mind are just horrid characters with stats and skills. They can'y make much money and they can barely level well. So what's the point right? Well really they're just for the fun. I mean there are some tiny benefits nothing too big but really it's just fun to run around like a newb in your undies. I mean doesn't every like doing that? Or am I just the only one?

Conclusion and Summary
[BSS-05]

So in conclusion if your looking for pure fun and goofing around be a beginner. They're lazy and jobless almost like the most of teenagers out there. Don't expect to go far with one cause it'll be harsh and quite a waste of precious time. So if your bored go take the path of the beginner.

The Path of the Warrior
[WSS-00]

Introduction of the Warrior Class
[WSS-01]

Warrior's are the power house type character. Main objective is to basically be a bot and swing your sharp weapon like a maniac. Basically your goal in life is to be a tank.

Discussion of Stats
[WSS-02]

A warrior's stats emphasizes on power and defense. You won't have to worry much about adding points into HP unless you want more. Basically each at each level you'll get enough. Your only main problem is MP. Being a warrior your weak points are your movement and magical offense and defense. But in the end your the most powerful character there is out there. You can survive massive damage and dish it out as well. Just don't expect to outmatch someone whose faster than you. As well as being a warrior you have to compensate your power for accuracy. Even though your doing godly damage, if you can't land a blow it means nothing.

Dexless?
What the hell does that mean!? Well there's many meanings but someone a sleepywood describe it the best I think...but I don't want to really quote someone. My words are full of wisdom too! So dexless usually refers to having no DEX at all to maximize damage. Sounds great doesn't it? But be warned that to compensate for strength warriors can't hit well. So if you went dexless well your power won't matter if you can't land a blow. So people tend to go as low DEX as possible so that's where the confusion starts. Dexless meaning low DEX or none at all? I'd like to keep it simple and just say dexless means lowest or no DEX at all.

In depth look at Skills
[WSS-03]

The skills that warriors get to begin with are quite awesome. For example Power Strike will do a massive 2.6 multiplier damage to monsters. That's 2x + 1/2 damage. So if your base is 100 your doing 260 damage with that skill.

Improving HP Recovery (Passive) - Mastery lvl.16
Level 16: Recover additional +50HP
This skill isn't as great unless maxed seeing as the Relaxer (A chair) will give you more HP recovery than this skill until it's maxed. But an extra 10HP per 10sec doesn't seem as great. So might as well add your points to something more important.

Improving Max HP Increase (Passive) - Mastery lvl.10
Level 10: If level UP, +40 more; If ap applied, +30 more on top of MaxHP
A must have skill! It'll give you lots of HP as you level and even more when points are added in. You won't have to worry much about dying as quickly as others now.

Endure (Passive) - Mastery lvl.8
Level 8: Recover HP every 10 seconds
Well not the greatest I'd say but probably worth a few points for those "Oh god what was I thinking now I'm stuck hanging" kind of situations. It's much better if maxed but like HP recovery not worth tossing about 5 points into it. Leave it at a decent time seeing as most of the time you'll be using HP pots or a cleric for that matter as your life support.

Iron Body (Supportive) - Mastery lvl.20
Level 20: MP -15; Weapon def. +40 for 300 seconds
I thought this skill was quite horrid in my mind but think again. No skill is almost as useless as they seem. Let's take a second look shall we? 40 extra def isn't much of a big deal at higher levels seeing as monsters you'll be fighting as a warrior will be, indeed, scary and big. But at lower levels imagine all the HP pots your saving with this skill. With already massive defense more defense will just make you a ridiculous tank. But other than that Power Strike, a warriors main attack and Power Slash are porbably better choices. But please don't think badly of this skill seeing as it's like have a second pair of armor when maxed.

Power Strike (Active) - Mastery lvl.20
Level 20: MP -12; Sword damage 260%
Woot the best first job attacking skill ever I'd say! 2x damage anyone? I suppose it's a way to compensate for lack of dealing 2 hits like mages and rogues. This is probably a warriors main skill forever. Dragon knights not so much seeing as they learn new attacking skills at 3rd job. And then there's 4th jobs but that's a while down the road. It's a great skill to have only problem is that your a warrior, with no mastery and a monsters defense it becomes useless. Your numbers of damage will go from 1-400 at random! And the majority of the time you won't be able to hit high numbers often. But don't neglect getting this skill for it is very useful later on.

Slash Blast (Active) - Mastery lvl.20
Level 20: HP -16; MP -14, damage 130%
Mob skill anyone? As a warrior here's a mob skill to compensate for you uselessness in the low levels. Still not quite rewarding as it's only a 1.3 multiplier and your already doing random damage already. But still nonetheless I good skill to have. Just keep looking towards the future, it'll get brighter.

Really I hope you enjoyed reading all I had to offer. I just disliked how som people really made their guides and well now I'm one of them. I hope it has given you some assistance in reading this lengthy guide. Feel free to comment, question or even flame me if you want. I just felt I needed people to get more aquanted with each class seeing how I've seen people's pro's and con's are quite horrid with blunt statements such as "Looks cool" or "Most popular" being both a con and pro Oo
