Well I knew Disney was creating another princess movie, since they're princess toy line is one of the most successful toy lines they have. And I knew it was going to be the Frog Princess. However I learned today that the Frog Princess will also be sporting the first African American Disney princess.

Disney supporting diversity?

Normally, I'd say it had to be a prank, but I guess you never know.
Still, that's pretty cool. I haven't gone to see a Disney movie in like... forever. But I might go for this. It's historic, after all. wink

On an unrelated note, it's interesting that they did a lion princess and a mouse heroine before having a black princess. But that's Disney for you.

Walter Disney himself was a complete a** and had daddy problems.

Yep. They've only had an Arabic princess and an Native American princess and a little Hawaiian girl and a little Indian boy, but this is the first ever black princess. How historic...

You have a point. I mean damn, you'd think they'd create a black princess before an Arabic or Native American one... I personally thought that whites and African Americans were on better terms than Whites and Native Americans... But that's just my view...

A princess thats a frog sounds pretty bad to me. Walt Disney is okay but I dislike most of their movies. They copied the movie 'Kimba the White Lion' .Though I still love 'Lion King'.

Riiight.. Judging on what I see on that wikipedia page, we shouldn't expect much of the artwork.. Which is a shame, Disney keeps on making "classics" and sequels (excellent examples: Aladdin 2 & 3) which actually look like crap because they were too lazy to work on the art..
.. But maybe I'm wrong wink I hope it's going to be a great movie!

Disney rips a lot of ideas off other people. Lion King was ripped from Kimba the White Lion and Aladdin was ripped from The Thief and the Cobbler (or the First Arabian Knight). The Wild was ripped from Madagascar, and so forth.

I think most of the straight to video releases of Disney are just ways of cashing in more on idea. That like to squeeze the cow dry. Which is kind of just horrible, but it's Disney. There isn't much we can do about it. They don't like leaving a good idea alone.

I think you give Kimba the White Lion too much credit. That was ripped off of Hamlet, though I suppose they were the first ones to recast Hamlet with lions.

And the Wild didn't rip off of Madagascar (though both were pretty bad). They were in production at the same time, so it would have been pretty much impossible for one to be very influenced by another.

i think it's a good thing they made the princess black.
i don't really think that exclusively white princesses are good.
i mean,
it's not like there are only white people on the planet.

I'm aware that Kimba is a rip of Hamlet, but then again how many different stories do you know of Rome and Juliet? A lot of people redo or take from Shakespeare, so I really didn't count that. However even with though the story was based in Hamlet, there are a lot of visuals that are similar from Kimba to Lion King.
