Not even the fine spring weather could distract one hind from her current troubles.
Telyn had meant to leave Brychan’s little designated harem place days ago, but she lingered. It was, after all, a perfect place for a pregnant hind to stay. Relatively close to the center of the herd, it was unlikely that a wolf or some other predator would sneak in. Brychan checked up on her regularly. Other hinds seemed to avoid it for some reason---possibly because it had been a meeting place for a stag’s harem---which was good for the gray hind who rarely got along with other hinds. The little stream that ran through brought her a ready source of drinking water and the fresh plants were just the thing for a puckish hind eating for two. Actually, three, but Telyn had yet to find that out.
With the sun melting through the clouds, she was merely sunning herself. Or trying to. It was difficult with this watery sunlight. Shaking her head, she waddled towards the stream and attempted to get a drink. In the past, she would have just been able to lean over and get a drink, but her growing belly made this a surprisingly difficult motion.
“Gru… Herne damn thi…” she grunted slightly as she attempted to reach the tempting water that reflected her face. Stupid pregnancy! As was her tendency when hormonal, her moods switched rapidly, turning to rage very quickly before turning back to sorrow just as quickly. With a sight, she knelt on her front legs, and was finally able to reach the water. Still, it was a dangerous position for a pregnant hind, since she couldn’t move out of it very quickly. But, she had faith that Brychan---and the other Outriders---would be able to keep predators such as wolves at bay. Quenching her thirst, she laid down quickly enough, exhaustion taking over quickly.
Stupid pregnancy… Grumbling dark things to herself, she tried to relax. It was getting difficult to even rest these days because of her fat stomach. She hoped that Brychan would come visit her today. He was usually able to distract her from her pregnancy, if only for a little while.

while having a young fawn growing in a Hind's belly was uncomfortable and awkward for some, Loreena felt happier then she could remember. she was going to have a child, but not just that, she was carrying Brychan's child.
as Brychan had suggested, Loreena spent most of her time as close to the largest group of Hind she could, for safety. but there was not as much grass with the large groups of pregnant Hind, causing her to stray off towards the smaller groups for a short time to get something worthy of the Fawn developing inside her. it was here that she noticed a familiar Hind, heading down to the Stream. the elegant Grey of her fur screamed Telyn. the Grey hind was looking Very pregnant indeed, and not as giddily mystified as Loreena was about it.
flattening her ears back she tilter her head to the side, then started forward to catch up with Telyn. "is everything alright Telyn?" she asked softly upon seeing the disgruntled Hind giving her legs a rest.

Telyn lifted her head at the sound of someone else returning, hoping that it was Brychan. But, even before she saw Loreena, she knew it had to be a hind. The steps were too light and hesitant to be Brychan. Her next hope was that it was Rhomae; those steps seemed to suit her personality. Her spirits fell a little at the sight of the red hind, Loreena, but she felt she hid her disappointment well.
As she heard the question, she scoffed angrily.
“No, nothing’s alright. I’m fat, I can’t even get a drink of water properly, I’m trapped here, and I scared Brychan off with my stupid demands!” She regretted the last one most of all. As far as she could see, her demand that Brychan spend time with their child---whether it be a fawn or a calf---was the whole reason why the starry stag hadn’t visited her today. Of course, the hormones kept influencing her mood, making her shift from one extreme to the other fast enough to make an eye-blink jealous. Right now, her mood seemed to be set on depression.

"oh dear" she sighed, it seemed the Pregnancy was definitely getting to Telyn. stopping at a comfortable distance from the other Hind, she remained standing, looking over her Swollen belly, and somewhat frazzled look probably from being annoyed. but to be honest the Hind looked at Beautiful as ever. with the benefit of the Glow that females got while pregnant.
but her emotions were definitely playing games with her. Loreena could relate, and Brychan having to go back to Outrideing duties surely didn't help either. she was a bit ashamed of herself for not considering that it might be just as hard on the other two as it was on her. she lowered her head slightly turning her face up to better see Telyn. "I'm sure Brychan would not be scared off by that. he does love you"

Telyn snorted, a very ungraceful noise for a rather un-elegant hind. “No, he loves you, Loreena. Brychan and I didn’t come together because of any particular feelings for one another. I entered his harem because I felt that I should join someone’s harem. He was simply the first one to ask. He didn’t even have to fight for me!” She hadn’t mentioned that to anyone yet, although she had considered it often. Previous to her pregnancy, she had thought of it as something small. But now, with hormones wreaking havoc with her emotions, it seemed a very important thing indeed.
Shoving those feelings of inadequacy aside, she sighed. “What are you doing here, Loreena? I know you didn’t just come here to speak to me. Speak up. It’s the only way anyone will ever know what you want out of life.”
Heh. Ironic. Telyn was currently angsting over telling Brychan what she wanted and now she was encouraging Loreena to do the same. Likely, the gray hind wouldn’t notice the similarity between the two situations.

mouth open slightly, wanting to disagree with every word Telyn had said, but was taken by surprise by the change of subject onto her. lifting her head up, and blinking perplexed at the other Hind. ears drooping back as she considered a response. but what could she posibly say? "...but... I did come to speak with you... I mean... we didn't spend that much time getting to know one another on Brychan's territory... just thought.. maybe we could learn a bit about one another now."
Telyn was stronger and bolder then Loreena had first taught. she felt very intimidated, and partly wishing she had stayed with the other Hind, grazing in silence. and looking for Brychan's distant form on the hills

Some of Telyn’s terseness and impatience probably came with being pregnant, but a lot of it was her natural personality. Perhaps it was even part of the reason that Brychan hadn’t encountered any fights when claiming her. Telyn darkly thought her personality was to blame, but she wasn’t going to change it for anyone, not even Brychan. Luckily, the starry-coated stag had accepted her as she was. Or, at least, he hadn’t shown any distaste even after learning of her very… bold nature.
The gray hind jerked her head slightly towards the ground nearby. “Well, then pull up some ground, Loreena and we can talk. I’ll get a crick in my neck if I keep staring up at you like this.” She was the type of hind who brooked no argument from anyone. It was hard to believe that Loreena was, technically, higher in status than the gray hind.

"oh. of cource" Loreena strode forward a couple more steps. then with much grunting, and ungraceful knee bending and flopping, she settled herself in the long grass. sighing in content. glad to give her legs a rest. she opened her dark eyes and rest them upon her harem sister. "why do you think you scared Brychan away?" she asked. having been confused by that since it was brought up. Loreena could honestly say, she didn't think of Brychan as the type to be scared away by anything, let alone one of the Hind he cared about.

Telyn watched as Loreena slowly relaxed, or at least lay down. Honestly, the hind needed to get some sort of spirit aside from the ‘oh crumbs, it’s all my fault’ flavor of spirit. She needed to speak out! She was the sort of hind that Telyn disliked simply because she was a… a… a mat of grass for everyone to walk on. Also the sort that ended up favorites, she noted with a sort of annoyance.
She snorted once again and tossed her head. “I told him that even if I should have a fawn, that he should pay attention to her. I don’t want him to simply fade out of our daughter’s---if, indeed, I carry a fawn---life simply because he’s a stag and she will never be one. I think I may have startled him with the… boldness of this request. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is asking other stags right now what they think of it.”
“Do you think it’s that strange of a request? I know it’s a little unusual, but I don’t think it’s really… you know. Completely out of line for me to ask that he stay in our baby’s life. Have you asked him about it?”

Telyn was certainly a strange hind. Not that that was a bad thing... but she was far from... what Loreena would consider the "traditional" Hind. she spoke her mind, and even demanded the kind of Respect that most Hind would not consider asking of there Mate. And while Loreena could easily be bunched in with those easygoing accepting hind... she could not help but admire Telyn for that Quality. "I see how that could confuse him,” she admitted, nuzzling her muzzle onto the side of her own belly, as she felt her baby kicking around. " I have hoped he would be the kind of Father to be with his child, no matter what gender. I have to admit... I would probably have never requested it of him. It is a bit strange." She felt a sinking feeling in her chest. As if she had left down their unborn child by making sure their father was there for it, Fawn or Calf. She blinked a couple of shakes and shook her head sharply, to ignore the stinking in her eyes. "I choose to trust his judgment"

Telyn squirmed a little as she could feel her own baby moving around in her womb. Herne, but there was an awful lot of movement in there! She had the feeling that her child would be an active one. And a big one too, she noted, comparing the size of her own belly to Loreena’s. It wouldn’t be a fun birth, she could tell that much. Not that births were ever fun, of course.
“Oh, I trust Brychan. I simply felt it was necessary to let him know what I expect.” Ah, there it was again. That was Telyn’s driving force: ‘let others know what she wanted’. It was greedy, no doubt, but that was the way of life. It was the best way to stop others from trying to take advantage of her. “He’ll certainly be with you for yours, Loreena. I don’t doubt that at all.”
Maybe it was simply Telyn’s odd feelings of inadequacies popping up again. Most of the time, she could keep them buried beneath a confident exterior, but… well, hormones were difficult. “What ab…” she paused and her nose wrinkled slightly. “Are you crying?”
Well, she wasn’t about to claim that her own pregnancy had been tear-free. She had spent at least one eventful afternoon crying on Brychan’s shoulder simply because of those stupid hormones. With a few grunts, she made her way closer to the red hind, offering a shoulder to cry on. A strangely kind gesture from Telyn, but she felt that Loreena deserved it, if only for putting up with her for more than five seconds.

she shook her head softly, keeping her face down so Telyn could not see her eyes. but as the gray hind moved closer, Loreena lowered her head onto her shoulder to hide her face ,ears quivering "no" she said in a cracking voice "I'm just tired" Loreena was a horrible liar. she missed Brychan more then ever at this moment, but she was so great full for Telyn's presence.
"You're young will be amazing Telyn," she said in the same frail voice. hormones obviously getting the better of her in this fragile moment "even if I am the favorite. Brychan will not over look you, or you're children," she should really not be speaking for Brychan, but at the moment she didn't really care.

Very horrible liar, Telyn noted. Still, she wasn’t going to do anything to make this fragile moment even worse. Even she wasn’t that heartless. She would allow Loreena her tears. After all, she knew how difficult it was being pregnant. While she was emotionally and mentally closer to Rhomae, there were certain levels that she couldn’t connect to the black and white hind. Rhomae, for one, had no idea of what it was like being pregnant.
“He won’t because I specifically told him not too,” Telyn muttered. Herne, but she hoped that her child wouldn’t be like Loreena! The poor hind would never get what she wanted out of her life unless she got herself a spine. Maybe it was too late for Loreena to grow one… “What was your mother like when you were younger?”
It sounded like a perfectly kind question. In reality, Telyn was looking for tips so she could avoid raising a daughter like Loreena. Oh, and, fine, maybe she did want to get to know her harem-sister a bit better.

"I'm glad you told him" she admitted, happy for Telyne, proud... and envious of her strength.
she didn't lift her head at the mention of her mother. but tried to gather herself, enough to find the words to explain what her mother was like. "she was well liked, popular and had many friends with the Hind, she was respectful to the Stags, and fun with all the Children. I remember one time, when Ii was little. I had a group of Fawn and Calf I was playing with, all telling me how they wished that my mother was there own." she sighed, suddenly missing her mother. "very outgoing... but the only thing she never seemed to do well, was tell stories." she let out a weak laugh. shaking her head and lifting it up to look at Telyn. "what was you're mother like?"

“I’m glad that I told him as well, even if it was out of line.” Telyn felt a note of pride in her chest when Loreena admitted that her happiness. Well, that was nice… even if Telyn didn’t go out of her way to earn the approval of her harem sister, it was still nice to get it anyway.
Ah well, then Telyn didn’t have anything to worry about. She didn’t think that she was particularly well-liked. Well-known, perhaps, but that was a different story and likely stemmed from her unusual pelt and behavior. That combination basically guaranteed that a hind would become known. “My mother? Well, she was a bit like you in many ways, actually. Very sweet and loving towards her children. Heh. When I was younger, some of the stags would forget I was there and talk about her in admiring tones. I wasn’t old enough to understand what they meant, but… well, now I do know. I was a very active fawn, always getting into trouble and going where I wasn’t supposed to go. The only way to keep me in one place, my mother discovered, was to tell me stories. So, that’s what she did. She had wanted to become a Storyteller when she became old but she didn’t get that chance. Man got her.” She sighed, thinking back to her happy days as a fawn.
She barked a laugh not long after her sad story. “Listen to us, Loreena, pining about our lost childhoods as if they are actually lost! It really hasn’t been that long since we were both fawns ourselves.”
