That's right, you heard it. It's gone. Like never to return, most likely. A photographer's worst nightmare...

It either hasn't hit me yet, or I'm in shock.

Oh jeebus... I can't even imagine how upset you must be. If my camera got stolen...frick, I'd be breaking down.

What model was it, and did you have any ID on it? Like a number coded into it anywhere?

Long story short, handed it to my mom to watch and she got up to follow us and accidently left it lying down. Stuff happens. A few minutes later I realized she didn't have it, we immediately went back, and it was gone.

We are 99% sure that whoever took it knew it belonged to us when they were stealing it, as they had passed us on the way leaving the trail. We went around checking all the campsites, and came across them. What they said confirmed our suspicions that it was indeed them - that is, knowing information about the camera and the bag that they would've had no other way of knowing had they not opened it up and inspected it.

What's wrong with people like them? Wouldn't one feel so much better by just simply seeing the camera lying there, pick it up, and return it? And I can't afford a new camera, nor can my parents. So only film for the rest of they year for me. California state park service is currently undergoing an "investigation." Met a nice officer and gave him the full details. He said we probably won't get it back, that's what happens most of the time - seeing it has been two weeks since then and haven't heard a word from him, he was probably right.

It was a Sony Cybershot DSC-H2, about $300. I got the serial number of the box as soon as I got home and sent it to the officer, but not likely that did much seeing as the people had probably already stashed it in their trunk. Certainly not along the lines of a DSLR or anything, but by no means cheap. Anyways, at least in photography I've finally tweaked our scanner to be to scan film negatives. I did my favorite one the other week, and it looks nice. I'm still going to miss my digital, however. neutral

That's really rough man. Sorry for you loss. I know if it was me (since I usually only use film) I don't think I'd care as much if someone stole my camera as long as they left the film. I mean if you're gonna rob me...sure take the camera...I can get a new one..but those pictures will NEVER be the same.

My apologies for the bit of thread necromany here, but I too had my camera stuff stolen a few months ago.

Lucky for me, I had my D70s body, my favorite lens, and my flash bracket with me at the time.

The thieves broke the passenger window of my car, and tried to steal my radio. They weren't able to get it, but instead took my camera bag with my 70-300 stabilized, my 50mm f/1.8, and the bag itself, which was just a standard Nikon bag, but it had some sort of magical property that allowed me to cram just about anything in it and still close.

Luckliy, my homeowners insurance covered the loss, I'd I'd suggest to all camera owners to look in to insurance for your rigs. Its not that expensive, and it gets you back to shooting without having to save up.
