I rule the sky. I rule the ground. My might
Can shake the earth. The wise do fear my cry.
The foolish seek my death. My nest is light.
My roost the sun. I race on earth, in sky.

All right, I felt like introducing you with something personal. So, I wrote a poem, sort of a sonnet, from the eyes of a gryphon. I am questing for a Gryphon blend from the shopAmes Errantes. I haven't been around the shop long, I was lured in with an adoption contest I didn't enter and then put all I had into the FS that soon followed. I lost that, expected to with how popular it was, but it didn’t matter. My mind, and my heart, was on a new idea.

Gryphons.

I could spin a tale about how Gryphons have always fascinated me and I’ve been studying them all my life, I have drawings in my room and all that stuff, but it wouldn’t be true. I am a long time fantasy girl and I found Gryphons interesting but it never really caught me as unicorns did. Horses are always more interesting to little girls. I’m a big girl now, (or so I’m told) and now Gryphons are quite fascinating. I love the combination, the power, and the royalty of a Gryphon. A gryphon is a king, and I, being a Leo, am a queen.

This was not something I thought of on my own though. I put all I had into the FS, and though I got an idea for a custom, I don’t like questing. Luckily I had someone to talk to; Ieeko Takeru, a good friend of mind, who when I mentioned my custom idea, mentioned one of his own. A dream catcher. Now Gryphons and dream catchers don’t have much to do with each other. (The Indians were one of the few people to not have Gryphons in they’re myths I like.) But that didn’t mean our ideas had to be. So we thought we would quest together, something to make it more fun for us, and a good excuse to use him as my art slave. So now we are sister threads, and the banners and headshot are here thanks to him. Please visit* him, he’s super cool.

Now, to the quest!

*Note: Untill Iee gets his quest set up the links to his thread lead no where.

Username: Flamefire123
Guardian name: Kainda Hernesra
Soul Name: Adair (Pronounced: Uh darrr or Uh dare haven't decided which yet)
Soul Personality:
  • Toddler: As a toddler Adair is curious with the world around him. He’s quiet and pensive, content to think deep thoughts by himself rather than being with friends. The gryphon is clinging to his guardian, which is convenient, as during this time she’s freaked with the idea of having a child and over protective. Nether emotions last long. Despite his naturally adventurous nature, Adair doesn’t go many places right now. Every time he starts to sneak away, his guardian snatches him and distracts with a treat of some kind. Therefore, he’s spoiled and finds adults with his treats more interesting than kids without. Treats doesn’t necessarily mean sugar ether. Adair loves anything that can be shinny, jewels, metals, coins, and mirrors. Adair has a real attachment to mirrors.
  • Child: When he starts to grow up Adair finds his guardian’s attention less flattering and more annoying. Likewise, Kainda finds all the attention giving annoying. Both start to separate at this time. Adair gains an interest in the outdoors at this time, an interest he shares with his guardian and so is in encourage. His hands, while useless for more indoor activities, are great for things like climbing and fighting. He does both a lot. Being spoiled and proud is not a great way to get people to like you, and Adair likes to take anything shinny, whether it belongs to him or not. This leads him to do this to stores at times and sometimes he is caught, (he isn’t trying to hide the fact that he took it), this begins a whole new wave of discipline from Kainda who won’t abide stealing in any form. Eventually Adair is less spoiled, and during this stage, he gets a lot more social. Negative traits aside Adair has many positive ones too. He’s strong, loyal and, when it suits him, kind. He is greedy when it comes to shinny things but everything else he is almost eager to give away. He likes making people, his friends at least, happy and though he fights for himself, he’ll fight for others just as fast. Adair has a good sense of humor, is able to laugh at himself (sometimes) and, has a great imagination. He’s eager to help with a problem, normally demanding to, and will do anything for a friend.
  • Teenage: Oh my, good thing Adair got less spoiled in the past stage as it’s time for the teen years. The gryphon hates school, and learning, but his pride drives him to be the best. Adair would rather spend his time doing things like mountain biking or rock climbing but he spends ample time on his studies, no one will ever call this gryphon dumb. He has some problems in gym when playing ball games due to his hands but finds way to work around any problems his odd parts might give him. He also tries to make lots of time for his interests, friends and his new interest, girls. Dating is hard for Adair though, it’s the one time where all his confidence leaves him. He also makes the mistake of always falling for the pretty air-heads who care more about appearances and objects than people. Though Adair loves gold, and is a bit of a miser, he doesn’t have a lot because Kainda doesn’t have a lot. During this time, Adair gets a job, both to make the girls he likes happy and his own need to have new shinny things. Adair loves having the newest best thing, and as long as he pays for it himself, he can have it.
  • Young Adult/Adult: [These stages personality wont be written out because RP, plotting and character development will shape how Adair will be during theses stages.]

A long time ago, before the virus, and during the war a child was born. He had noble upbringings; his father was a war hero, and his mother duchess. Everyone expected greatness from him. He expected greatness from him. The boy’s name was lost but one day he’d be call Adair. The boy started out as just that, a boy, and while the doomed world expected greatness from him, everyone agreed a child deserved a childhood. Therefore, he spent his days in the manor, raised by a nurse and his mother. His father was a general in the war, and rarely home. He would come just long enough to fill his son with vigor and morale for his side. His father fought for magic, and it’s right to exist. His son dreamed of the days he could fight along side his father and win his own battles. Of course, he knew nothing of the horrors of war, or it’s many costs. He was a child, old enough to have a concept of death but young enough to believe it will never happen.

The boy who would be Adair liked to explore, reveled in it. His land was perfect for it; a forest that bordered a mountain, with a few patches of fields thrown in for fun. A river the snaked though forest, missing the manor and empting into a lake that was only a day’s ride from his home. This was his back yard. His front yard was not nearly as interesting. A paved, gated yard, that (stretched far enough) reached the village that his mother ruled in his father’s absence. He wasn’t interesting in ruling (just having people to rule) but in war, in battle, in being a hero, like his father.

That was years from now though. At least ten and that is an eternity when you’re eight. For now he had his backyard to explore, and he did. He’d spend days traveling the woods. His mother approved of the travels, letting him take a bedroll during the spring, summer and early fall and camp for days on end. The forest wasn’t big, and soon he knew every inch of it. Or so the young noble though.

One day the Adair-to-be was riding his mount near the mountain end of the forest, enjoying the breeze and wondering if he should camp or start to head home. As he was debating, things took a turn for the worst. A gopher hole went unnoticed by rider or steed and the horse stepped in it, falling forward and snapping his leg instantly. The fall threw the war-bound boy forward. He fell, and rolled, getting knocked around but his momentum didn’t slow for several feet. When the boy finally did stop he felt dizzy, sick and had several new bruises.

Then he looked up and forgot it all.

It lay before him, a fallen legend, a dying myth, a gryphon. The young child stood up slowly, staring at the great beast that was curled up tightly before him. Suddenly, he realized something. The gryphon was dying. He saw no wound, heard no evidence of illness but he knew. One great eye opened, slowly as if it took huge effort to do only that. The child never met God, and wouldn’t for two life times, but at that moment he felt like he just might have. He knew that beast knew all of his sins, all of his follies, all of his stupid mistakes and misdeeds. The great myth also knew all his strengths, his kindnesses, his good deeds. The gryphon knew it all.

And she approved.

Young boy, do not think you know your destiny. It will not be what you think.

The words exploded into his mind, with a bold boom years of power and strength gives a mind. For a moment, the young noble knew what it was like to fly high in the sky, wind carrying his large wings in flight, he knew what it was like to be thousands of years old, to chortle over stupid human wars, to be above death, above life. Then he was just a little boy again, one who was ready to go home now.

I frighten you, young one, don’t I?

Adair-to-be didn’t respond.

Never mind. I use to frighten many people, I use to be something to fear.

The child thought the gryphon looked scarry. She was ten times bigger than a lion.

Your thoughts are kind. Surprised you, huh? Gryphons can do many thing, especially as one as old as I am, but even Gryphons aren’t immortal. Do me a favor child, your heart is pure and your dreams are noble, I hope that wont change. The great beast moved, shifting as she shoved an egg forward. It was large, oval shaped and with a swirl of colors. Take my egg. I won’t live to see it hatch. It needs a pure heart to hatch.

“But…me?” the boy was confused, scared, and excited. He moved forward, glad that creature shoved the egg out far enough that it didn’t seem like a death wish to retrieve it. His small arms wrapped around the egg that was half as big as he was, and pulled back.

So you do speak young one? Good, a kind voice never hurts a growing gryphon. Feed my child when he hatches, and he shall remain loyal to you for forever more.

The boy nodded eagerly, he may be scared but he wasn’t stupid. He knew this was a great chance.

One more thing boy. It took great force of will but the gryphon moved, reaching up carefully to pluck a feather from her coat, it carried a speck of blood on the tip. Place this on your horses leg, mix his blood with mine, it will fix his leg. Your horse is a good steed, and deserves to live.

Worry filled the noble now, he didn’t think of his horse, didn’t have time. He moved though, and took the feather, worried; he held it carefully, not wanting to loose the blood on the tip. Blue eyes looked up, watching the myth of the sky settle back into her spot, and knew, she had died.

“Thank you.” He whispered, and with his two new treasures, prepared to go home.

Many searched for that cave again, a gryphon was worth so much, but no one ever found it. Several men went mad, or died searching but the destined boy knew none would find it. Gryphons weren’t creatures to be found if they didn’t want to. He focused on the egg he had. He took care of the egg, worried over it like a mother hen, and eventually it hatched, when the boy was twelve.

Gryphons grow fast and by the time his young master was in his teens so was the baby gryphon. The pair grew up together, fought together, and when the boy’s father died when the noble was sixteen, grieved together. Finally, after years of training, and mental preparation they took to war together. With a gryphon as his steed, his father’s legacy and his own determination, the young noble who wasn’t so young anymore quickly climbed the ranks, and quickly grew up. War does that to people. It settled on him well, he didn’t become bitter, mean or a drunk. He just grew wise, strong and, surprisingly, hopeful. For ever horror he witness, he saw another kind deed.

Together the pair had many victories under their belt, they were ready to die at war or retire when they were old, but they weren’t given the chance. The war ended abruptly when the virus came out. And the noble man with his gryphon steed watched helplessly as people died, much faster and with a lot less reason than the war. There was reason behind death in war, maybe not always good reason but reason. There was no reason in this.

He didn’t know why he was free from the virus, luck probably, maybe it was something to do with his bond to the gryphon, he didn’t know, but he didn’t get it. In way when his soul was extracted to save his life it made sense that it would mix with his gryphon’s and become one. That they as a pair wouldn’t be separated, even in a second life.

User ImageName: Kainda Hernesra
Nicknames: Kain,
Name Meaning: Hunter’s Daughter

Gender: Female
Race: Kitsune
Nationality: Gaian
Age: 19
Hair: Dirty blonde
Eyes: Green brown
Skin: Pale
Build: Small and slim
Occupation: Waitress

Favorite Color: Brown and green
Personality: Kainda is an outdoorsy type of girl. She likes mountain bikes and long hikes. She loves camping, back packing, white water rafting, all of it. Just as long as it’s outside in the fresh air. She needs to always be moving during the day but as soon as the sun goes down she tends to flop. Just because she’s a outdoorsy person doesn’t mean that she doesn’t enjoy flopping down in front of the TV or spending a day indoors reading a book. Kainda loves exploring but she also is a homesbody and needs a strong base to be able to explore. Kainda is very blunt person, mostly because she’s a terrible lair and finds it easier to be blunt then to try lying. Because of that she hates lairs, and gossipers, and basically anyone who rather talk behind your back than to your face.

Sexuality: Heterosexual
Love Interest: None
Marital Status: Single
Children: None

Interests: outdoors, sports, hiking, camping, working in the yard, lounging, hanging with friend, pushing her limits, finding out new things about herself.
Dislikes: Sitting still during the day, spending nights out, macho guys, lazy people, gossipers, shopping, fashion,

Style: She has a very sporty style. Kainda never wears dresses, always some form of pants and shirt. She likes sporty jackets and tennis shoes or hiking boots.

History: Kainda hasn’t had much happen to her. Moved away from home at a young age. Been job and home jumping since then. She could blame it on itchy feet but in honesty it was just lack of money and/or jobs that kicked her out of places. She didn’t need a home though, would like one, but didn’t need it. It was during this time that she met Chich and actually grew to like him, unfortunately this meant that he had a habit of popping in on her when she did have a home and crashing for a while. Kainda didn’t mind, not really, she liked hanging out with him. Just didn’t like feeding him all the time. Right now she’s two months late on her apartment, and just got fired, so needless to say she’s looking for a new job and a new place to stay.

IC! Notes: Kainda isn’t really a mother to Adair as a big sister. She takes care of him but has a more impersonal relationship than a mother has with her son.

OOC! Notes: I have none of these…wee!

Kainda types in darkgreen/green, depending on where I'm RPing

The three spellings for griffin are - gryphon, griffin and griffon.

Griffins are portrayed with a lion's body, an eagle's head and wings, long ears, and an eagle's claws, to indicate that one must combine intelligence and strength. The griffin has served many purposes, including but not limited to "the vigilant guardian of treasure and of kings. It has been called "The Hounds of Zeus". It has pulled the chariots of Pharaoh, Apollo, Nemesis, and Alexander the Great. A major heraldic animal, it has been emblazoned on the shields of knights and on the coats of arms and royalty.

User Image
It has been watchful and loyal, graceful and swift, rapacious and vengeful, monstrous and divine. While the griffin is a mortal enemy of horses, its magic talons have detected poison and its feathers have cured blindness*.

A griffin is a fabulous animal, symbolically significant for its domination of both the earth and the sky - because of its lion's body and eagle's head and wings. It has typological antecedents in ancient Asia, especially in the Assyrian k'rub, which is also the source of the Hebrew cherub. The frequent representations of griffin-like creatures in Persian art made them symbolize ancient Persia for the Jews. In Greece the griffin was a symbol of vigilant strength; Apollo rode one, and griffins guarded the gold of the Hyperboreans of the far north. The griffin was also an embodiment of Nemesis, the goddess of retribution, and turned her wheel of fortune. In legend the creature was a symbol of superbia (arrogant pride), because Alexander the Great was said to have tried to fly on the backs of griffins to the edge of the sky. User Image

At first also portrayed as a satanic figure entrapping human souls, the creature later became (from Dante onward) a symbol of the dual nature (divine and human) of Jesus Christ, precisely because of its mastery of earth and sky. The solar associations of both the lion and the eagle favored this positive reading. The griffin thus also became the adversary of serpents and basilisks, both of which were seen as embodiments of satanic demons. Even Christ's Ascension came to be associated with the griffin. The creature appeared as frequently in the applied arts (tapestries, the work of goldsmiths) as in heraldry. In the latter domain, Boeckler (168 cool offered the following interpretation: "Griffins are portrayed with a lion's body, an eagle's head, long ears, and an eagle's claws, to indicate that one must combine intelligence and strength."

Gryphons are honest fellows with a good sense of humor (gryphons 'grin' by just opening their beak rather than barking like we do) and great imaginations. They do not have that 'thrown-together' look most constructs (like Gladisant, the Questing Beast) have, but instead are beautiful and graceful. Most can speak more than one language and sing wonderfully, and their young ones are humorous to behold.

As the lion was considered the "King of the Beasts" and the eagle the "King of the Air", the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. Griffins were consecrated to the Sun.

(I love those people) Any quote that I find funny or interesting and any pieces of work that I might do related to this thread or that I just want to show off. (I've been writing sonnets lately and sometimes I like to show it off because sonnets are really hard for me.) If you have anything that you think would belong here, post or PM it to me and maybe I'll put it up. If it's art work please make sure it's related to the thread, but any and all funny quotes and sayings are welcome.

Poems by Me

Gryphon
I rule the sky. I rule the ground. My might
Can shake the earth. The wise do fear my cry.
The foolish seek my death. My nest is light.
My roost the sun. I race on earth, in sky.
A myth to hide the truth. A tale to make it fake.
You scoff at stories, dreams already lost
No dragons, beasts in flight, or lady lake
For world today. All fiction should be tossed.
In modern mindset. Don’t forget old myths,
Legends of time we lost. A tale isn’t lies
Unless you make it false. Believe in myths,
Believe in fiction. Tales are truth, a prize
All win. I’m truth. I’m myth. I’m real. I’m fake.
A myth of truth. A gryphon, none can take.

Adair's Songs

Fool's Gold

Somewhere in a market square
The cobblestone still shine
Glassy eyes behold the sight
Through another cup of wine...
The one eyed jester skips and turns
As he makes his way through the crowd
While the travern's royalty try not to laugh aloud...
The jester does another spin
And then falls to the floor
A show of hands, a short "Hurrah!"
A plea for him to do more...
The ease of laughter comes so fast when you're not in
A jester's shoes
Cause when you've only Fools Gold, you've got nothing
more to lose...

Who holds the riches
The jester or the king?
A fortress made from Fools Gold
Or the tears that treasure can bring?

The king he sit upon his throne
The worlds weight on his chest
When your mind begins to race you've got no time to rest
"Where is my clown?
I need him now, to take my troubles away..."
The harlequin rushes in as his work begins for the day...
While somewhere in a market square
The cobblestones still shine...

Kainda Songs

Where are we Going from Here?

On a long road, miles to go
Its winding and cold and its covered with snow
But I ask you what we all want to know
Where are we going from here...

Lines on my face , lines on my hands
Lead to a future I don't understand
Some things don't go as they're planned...
Where are we going from here...

Tracing the trails through the mirrors of time
Spinning in circles with riddles in rhyme
We lose our way, trying to find
Searching to find our way home...
Trying to find our way home...

As the day dies, with tears in our eyes
There's too few hellos and too many goodbyes
Silence answers our cries...where are we going from here...

We're all on this road, with miles to go
Braving new pathways into the unknown
But who do you ask, when no one really knows
Where we are going from here...

Now a lot of you are probably wondering why Ieeko and I are calling ourselves sister threads. After all I haven't mentioned him, or dream catchers since my intro post. So I thought I would dedicate one post to explaining why we're sister threads and how this works. This really wont be a long post but I don't think this needs a long explanation.

It's pretty simple. Most of it was explained in the intro post. Ieeko and I mostly just decided to quest together, just to make it easier to keep our own morale up. Also, in a last ditch effort sort of thing we decided a fun way to tie our concepts together would be if our characters all lived together. Now I know that Ames gives you apartments but he's a mooch so he'd be there all the time anyway for food or would live with her anyway. This mean that our characters would be raised kind of like siblings.

So the real connection is that our guardians are friends and will be living together. Our actual concepts have nothing to do with each other. We just were always talking to each other while we set this all up. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad I have Ieeko would with me on this.
