It was sunny out, showing the effects of spring. Green grass, sprouting leaves, blossoming leaves. All that good stuff.
Nikomas and Blackfell were, as per usual, in the park near the playground. The angel was sitting on a bench, and Fell was swinging quite nimbly on the monkey bars, at this moment hanging upside down with his legs over one of the bars, his arms hanging below his head as he swung back and forth to grab the next bar.

From that vantage point, Fell had a clear view of the approach of n'Barit and Kirkcaldy. Baby in one hand and crutch in the other, n'Barit hobbled along in an almost amusing fashion. He had developed a rather peculiar gait which allowed him to swing his crutch and walk without disturbing Kirkcaldy too much.
The little girl, for her part, looked healthy and happy to be out in the nice warm sun with the trees and the fresh air. She held her silver bauble, gripping it like a like her life depended on having the object. As she had never once been separated from the bauble, maybe it did. There were so many questions to be answered about the young Illusionary. Thankfully there was plenty of time.
The pair's destination looked to be the bench where Nikomas was sitting. It was the only bench available in the area, the other having been vandalized by teenaged Gaian hoodlums and taken out until it could be replaced. There was plenty of space on the bench for two, but something in n'Barit's determined face indicated displeasure at that idea. It did not bode well for an innocently happy day at the park.

Fell noticed the pair approaching, a man on weird stick things with a baby in a sling around his neck. Dropping down from the bars and onto his feet with a thud, Fell ran over, windmilling his arms as if he were an airplane, while making buzzing sounds with his tongue. A broad grin spread on his face as he ran up to the two, merriment in his gold eyes. "Heylo!"
Niko was laughing at her son, but when she saw his eyes focus on someone approaching, and then drop down to run towards the pair, she gave him an exhasperated smile. "Fell, come back here. Don't bother them." She looked at n'Barit and gave him an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry if he startled you or anything..." The angel said, trailing off at the determination in his face.

N'Barit stopped quite short, readjusted Kirkcaldy in his arm to make sure no part of her was dangling within Fell's reach, and glared at the little boy. "Hey," he barked, "go away."
Out of reach, Kirkcaldy could only sigh in exasperation. Every time she got that feeling about a new person it ended badly through no part of her own. She had no reason to expect this time would be any different. Sometimes n'Barit was just too much. Idly, she wondered if she should just take a nap and sleep this whole thing through, but with n'Barit being so disagreeable there would probably be some shouting. "Pf," she concluded, accidentally sending spittle onto n'Barit's shirt.

Fell's smile disappared as a hurt expression took it's place. He was about to ask why, when he saw the little baby spit on the mean man's shirt. The smile returned, along with loud laughter. "Pretty baby." He said, holding a hand out towards Kirkcaldy.
Slapping her face and pulling her hand down, Niko looked skywards for patience, though she had the kerchief wrapped around her eyes today. Standing up, she made her way towards the splotches of heat that appeared to her eyes. "Sir, I'm sorry about my son. He doesn't really understand the concept of 'personal space' yet, though I've been trying." She finished with a crooked smile.

N'Barit was less than understanding. "Then try a little harder," he snapped, and, glaring at Fell, added, "No touching, brat." The epithet was probably too much, but when had n'Barit ever done anything in half strides? Subtlety was an art totally lost on him. He stamped his crutch against the dirt in annoyance.

Fell merely skipped out of the way of the crutch, the silver necklace in Kirkcaldy's hand catching his eye. He reached forward to the baby again, the smile coming back. "What's her name?" Fell asked, now oblivious to the man's annoyance.
Oh dear... Niko though, rubbing her temple with a finger. "Look, I'm sorry." She said, reaching forward to grab one of Fell's hands by the wrist and pulling him backwards. "He's just a toddler, he doesn't know any better." Niko said, giving the man a slightly reproachful look, though it might have been difficult to tell with the blindfold. If this man was like this to normal people, who knew how he treated his own child, hanging around his neck.

With a sniff of disapproval, n'Barit said, "Weak teachers make for weak students." It definitely dispelled any illusions about his parenting goals. "What's your excuse?" With that, he proceeded to make his way towards the bench, not really caring if Nikomas bothered to answer, so long as her little brat stayed away from his child.

Fell wasn't paying attention to what the mean man said anymore, he was trying to get the attention of the baby around his neck instead. "What's your name?" He asked her, not certain if she was capable of speaking or not.
Niko's expression turned to a glare with n'Barit's next words. "A person learns from expirience. Kindness can help, and using harsh words to ingrain a lesson can only lessen a person's capabilities in the future, depriving them of feelings." She said stiffly. "It certainly shows what kind of a parent you will be to your daughter." The angel said, the lines of her face showing her irritation with the man; she didn't normally get angry, but she loved children, and to think that a baby girl would be with such a... Oh, she couldn't think of the word. Such a stiff man, was galling.

Kirkcaldy noticed Fell's question and did make a little "Keee!" in reply, but she was distracted immediately by n'Barit.
As Niko spoke, n'Barit made a face and pantomimed talking, mocking the speech. Blah blah blah, he was saying as he walked away, look at the woman run off at the mouth. From his perspective, this was just a weak person making a weak defense of a weak position. Had he been paying attention he would have further decried her argument as being illogical and taken offense at the implications about his parenting, so it was probably for the best that he tuned Nikos out and made fun of her instead.
Kirkcaldy giggled at n'Barit's funny face despite herself. "Djiiideen!" she exclaimed, sounding somewhat exasperated. She knew at this point when he was being mean to people and funny as his face was, she did not approve. N'Barit obligingly stopped his impression and Kirkcaldy glanced back over his shoulder at Nikos (and to a smaller extent Blackfell) in meaningful apology.
"Why look!" said n'Barit in his loudest I'm-ignoring-you voice, "what have we here? An empty bench!" It was indeed the bench, vacated moments earlier by Nikos, and n'Barit dropped his crutch across the whole length of it with a clatter, claiming it at his own.

The smile returned to his face at the response from Kirkcaldy, and he trotted after the man, keeping up a conversation with the baby as he moved. "I'm Blackfell, but you can call me Fell! Is your name Kee?" Fell asked, his smile big and innocent.
Niko stared after him with a roug glare on her face. She rarely disliked someone, but this man was swiftly becoming an exception. Though the angel wasn't rude enough to knock the crutch off the bench, she sorely wanted to. He was definately getting on her nerves, to say the least.

"Klay," said Kirkcaldy cheerily. At this rate no one would ever know her actual name, and she seemed to be accumulating nicknames from her varied responses at an alarming rate. N'Barit hcould have helped resolve the issue, but he only hummed at Kirkcaldy as he pulled the towel from the bag on his shoulder and laid it out on the bench with a flick of his wrist.

Since Fell seemed to be getting on okay with the child, and the "father" wasn't making any threatening moves, Niko settled back against the closest tree, content to sit on the ground and lean against the trunk, keeping a wary ear and "eye" on the motley group.
Fell stuck out a hand to the baby, the big grin still present. "Nice t'meet'cha Klay!" He said, stumbling a little over the odd name. He wasn't sure what the man was doing, but it wasn't that interesting, so he ignored him. "Klay, wanna go play on the seesaw or somethin'?" Fell asked the baby.

Time for that threatening move Niko was so wary of. "Don't touch!" snapped n'Barit, turning away protectively to keep Kirkcaldy out of reach. "Your filthy little hands aren't welcome." Kirkcaldy let out a little upset wheeze. Fell seemed just so friendly and nice! She jabbed her foot into n'Barit's ribcage to no effect.

Fell made a petulant pouting face at the man, sticking his tongue out. "My hands're clean, see!" He said, demonstrating by holding them out palm up. "They ain't dirty or nuthin'." Fell looked at Kirkcaldy again, and gave her a cheerful smile. "Is he always like that?"
