Shadows flitted across the bark of the trees as the sun filtered through weakly into the darkest heart of the forest that presented itself so barely. Sun rarely saw deep within here, in fact it was incredibly rare that it could be seen at all, but wherever she went... there always seemed to be sunlight.
A cough racked the thin frame of the incredibly small mare as she walked, forcing her to stop, legs shaking a little too hard for her to keep moving. She had grown out of some of her sickness, or at least the worst of it, but her heart would still throb and her legs refused to let her move too far or too fast. Neither of her brother's really had that problem, as she'd managed to ask them in one of the few instances of less shyness she'd had in a long time. Yet all the same she always had to assume that they were no different than her, even if she was just this sickly.
Maybe it would go away?
"Fat chance..." Dappletail's bell-like voice rang from her muzzle softly and she gazed up at a leaf that was dangling haphazardly in the air. ninja

Harij had been wandering for awhile now. Aely, his two-legger, finally shoo’d him towards the door and declared something in human-speak that he couldn’t understand. The message had been clear though.. Go live and have fun! Several new friends had been found along the way, but there still wasn’t any one person, place, or thing he couldn’t leave behind.
A hollow but rather noise made the stallion straighten quite suddenly. His rust-marked ears danced back and forth a bit trying to figure out just where precisely it had come from and what. Moving stealthily but not quite silently, he peaked around a rather leafy tree branch to spot the culprit. A mare, colorings and markings completely undefined was walking not far from him. The little creature seemed to be pushing herself along and Harij felt the desire to cheer the creature on. Was this the exploration that Aely had wanted him to go find?
A few questions continued to dance in the stallion’s brain. Coming and going and confusing him before he decided to simply let her meet him.
His entrance was the snap of a branch he stood on.. Then moving silently so only half of his face was exposed to any form of light. One glowing amber eye watched her calmly.

Ears flicked back slightly when a loud snap sounded through the forest around her. The icey blue eyes flashed behind her to betray the rather large male Soquili with his incredible burgundy markings that trailed over his body like they were drawn on by the fingers of a human.
The blush that trailed over her face made Dappletail feel slightly insignificant before the astounding male and she shied instantly, fear making her heart tear at her chest with a ferocity she'd not known before. It was rare that she met others out here, but then it was also rare that she would leave the forst to meet others, so it was mostly her fault for her reaction.
"H-hello...?" Dappletail called out, her voice wavering and hitching the way it normally did.
She wasn't sure if he was good or evil...if he would be kind or if he would do as Kalona and attempt to rid her of her limbs forcibly. She rather disliked the idea of being ripped apart.

Harij wasn’t overly sure just yet if his entrance had been smooth enough to allow for anything more than a, “Get away from me.” Then too, the stallion rarely did anything smoothly and so very few people spent much time talking to him. His eyes looked her over in a very mild manner.
It wouldn’t do to frighten her away.
Harij had never, ever, actually thought himself to be a large stallion, but next to the small and thin mare… He was huge. The markings on her body were subtle, and from far away didn’t seem too distinguished. Moving lazily, Harij managed to get a better look and nearly lost his focus for a moment. She was.. Lovely. Ice blue eyes and entirely too thin. A frown crossed his face for a moment.. Since when did he care about how thin a mare was?
“Hello, miss.” For once, someone else had spoken first and he’d replied. Instead of being silent and seeming an a**.
He couldn’t be overly positive, but she seemed nice.. Just very quiet. Perhaps that was a relief in and of itself. Not needing to fuss about spending all day long talking about anything and everything.

Faltering slightly as she let her weight glide to and fro between her hooves, Dappletail took in the much larger stallion with shy eyes and downcast them every time she caught his impressive eyes. Those gold eyes seemed to look straight through her and see everything that was wrong with her, from her heart to her vocal cords to her size.
It wasn't as if she could help any of these things, but to stand there and have them so clearly under scrutiny was almost demening and she didn't necisarrily find herself liking it. Had she been any other mare she very well might have, but being the short and sickly thing that she was, Dapple had clear issues with how she appeared, how she must look to others of her own kind when she was barely the height of a normal Soquili; standing just above a pony in height.
At least he could speak, but that didn't mean that Dapple really wanted to, she felt like she was the biggest idiot on the face of the planet for how she stuttered, how she was unable to form words eloquently. No... sometimes it just wasn't fair.
"H-hello.... Sir." She managed to get out, only stuttering on the first of the two words and blushing faintly for her work.

Harij moved a little bit closer then held his position. He wanted to be close enough to not have to yell to speak or to strain himself to hear what she had to say. Mainly because his voice wasn’t very strong, and yelling seemed a bit inappropriate given how silent it seemed to be. Her eyes held such fear of him… What had he done?
The stallion checked himself and felt the strange desire to blush. Her markings and just plain thinness had captured his attention. Strange, he knew what it was like to be stared at and disliked it more than probably anything else on earth and there he was gawking just a bit. The gold bands in his mane jingled a bit as he shook out his head to clear his mind from the past few moments of awkwardness and to focus more on what to say now to make her more at ease with him.
Harij felt another rush of almost relief when the other didn’t begin to babble like so many others. Maybe others didn’t babble, but it sure felt like it when one had to remember all that was said and make a suitable answer for all of the remembered things. Heck, just thinking about it made Harij a bit nervous.
“I am Harij.” This “Sir” business was a bit odd. Was he supposed to call her miss or perhaps she was old enough to be called madame?

Shying a little at his words and how he kept getting steadily closer for some reason, Dapple forced herself to hold her position and lifted her ice colored blue eyes to peer into his own gold. The force of her doing this caused her body to shake as a leaf might in the wind, but she forced herself all the same. It was a step.. but not by much.
"H-Harij? That's a ni-nice na-name." She stuttered horribly on most of that statement and blushed so furiously that she felt tears prickle in her eyes and was forced to look away, lest they overflow and he think she was a overemotional little idiot. Dapple hated how much of an idiot she seemed for her stuttering, she really wasn't.
It was also rather relieving that he wasn't that much of a chatterbox, which meant that she didn't have to come up with huge sentences just to respond to him and stutter all over her words. She hated that worse than anything she'd ever done. It was ridiculous, the more she talked the more she seemed to stutter.

Harij could very easily see the fact that the mare was quaking at either the sight of him or just perhaps at Soquilis in general? He frowned again just for a moment and planted himself firmly. The mare was easy to see in the shaded place and that was enough for now. Talking didn’t have to be close. Although it made being quiet easier.
“Thank you.” He’d never had anybody really say anything about his name be it good or bad so that seemed like the right thing to say? Now she knew his name, but would he ever learn hers? The part of him that was entirely male in thought process, well, all of him was male but you know.. Was intrigued by her… One hind leg was propped up lazily to simply relax. The stuttering was something he hardly noticed because as a colt he’d been over-shadowed by his “miraculous” brother and never really got around to speaking too much. She’d stop when she felt comfortable. “Do I get to know your name, miss?”

Slightly, every so slightly, Dappletail chewed on her lower lip and reduced the white on the edges of her icy blue eyes to what a normal horse might show. Never once had she been asked for her name in all the years she'd been alive. The thought gave her a twinge of hope when she looked at him.
Maybe she could make a friend of him after all? Maybe he wouldn't request too much of her beyond what her body was capable off. Anyone that'd wanted to be friends with her had demanded too much of her for years. It was just the way of things.
That was why she had no friends and was so far from her family.
"Yo-you're welcome." Dapple started, freezing for a moment before she made a large choice with herself. "It's... it's Dappletail.."
She turned her face away from his eyes, not sure she wanted to see his response in his eyes. It was a dumb name for a horse she'd been told. Of course she knew that but it was hers all the same and she was overly proud of it.
