The Beach Side Carnival lights sparkled dimly against the intense sunset sky. They had only just turned them on to attract night time customers and even though barley visable, they still helped. The ferris wheel loomed high over the entire park, being seen from miles off.
Lara could literally feel her arm being half pulled off by the enthusiasim of Calanthe's tug. "Slow down Calie. I can't keep up. No need to be so forcful!" The young girl turned around to face her new care taker, a dissaproving pout on her face. "I wouldn't have to pull you everywhere if you learnt to use that invention you have. I believe they're called 'feet' stop dragging them," Calie rolled her eyes and skipped off down the wooden streets towards the carnival. I wonder if the freak show is looking for new acts Lara pondered grinding her teeth with irritation. I know one kid who may need a new place to stay...

Vanyel and Kitten had arriven, of course, early for the carnival. Vanyel insisted that she be one of the first allowed in so that she would not be stuck in the middle of the vents with the vast number of people. The poor girl was worried about excessively large crowds and as Kitten had explained to her, the beginning of most events were usually when the smallest amount of people hung about.
Of course, it was no longer the beginning of the carnival so the activities had picked up. Some shops were just now opening and Vanyel was excited about going into them. So far she'd bought herself a small trinket to hand from her glasses and cute ties for her braids. These things weren't actually bought by Vanyel, but by Kitten.
Kitten seemed almost more excited by the carnival than the little orange-haired girl, but this was usually the case. As open and sweet as Vanyel was, her guardian was even more energetic and bubbly. "Van, let's go to the shop across the street! I think they're selling food. Aren't you hungry?" Vanyel nodded and the two made their way out of the shop they were in and into the bustling streets of the carnival.

"Is there anything you want look at first?" Lara question the inquisitive girl. She seemed to be occupied with everything. The screaming of people from the roller coaster, to the rigged games of side show ally. It would certainly help if the pair had some sort of direction as to what they should do first. "I want.... some of that!" Calie exclaimed brightly noticing another child like herself holding a large cloud of pink on a stick.
"Don't point Calanthe, it's rude!" "How so? it's not even alive?," "That's what I thought, until I brought home this wired oil burner," Calanthe laughed, clearly enjoying the experience. "What ever he pink stuff is, can I just have some?" "Manors?" "Please?"
Lara walked Calanthe over to a food stand across the street, they were about fith inline at the moment. Which would usually be okay, if the vendor wasn't so slow.

Kitten didn't notice Lara and her charge slip into line behind them, but she would have certainly agreed about how long this vendor was taking. "How bloody long does it take to roll cotton candy? It's sugar for pete's sake,"
"Who is Pete?" asked Vanyel curiously, tiling her head up to look at Kitten and in turn readjust her glasses that were slipping down her nose. Kitten groaned at the question. "You know Van, I keep forgetting that you came from a little gel cup and that you don't actually know all the slang that someone your age would have picked up by now. Especially since you can't read about this Pete man in your books. But I don't know who he is actually, he's just some guy that has a sake apparently," Kitten said with a laugh, ruffling Vanyel's hair much to the girls dismay.

“See what your slowness has done to us Lara? Now we stuck behind THESE people,”
Lara wondered if anything she did could make this girl stop complaining. “Calanthe, don’t you think you could use a little less tone? I would hate to see you grow up spoilt,” “So…making yourself happy isn‘t right?”
“No, I’m just saying be nicer about it,” Calanthe looked at Lara. She had the most sincere ‘I only want the best for you’ look in her eyes. It wasn’t pleading, just a sort of look that meant it would mean disappointment for her if Calie began to let her behaviour slip. Calanthe settled down and just turned to wait inline. She felt as Lara comb her hair with her fingers as they waited.
Lara looked down at the crown of creme shaded hair which spread from little girls head. She could still smell the scent of Vanilla-coconut wafting off her skin, mingles with the scent of orange. Hang on, orange wasn’t usual. Lara bent her head lower to Calanthe’s as if kissing her on the forehead, and breathed in the scent. Nope. Her little one was orange scent free. “It’s from the girl in front of us,”
Calanthe said, guessing what Lara was doing. “Tangy isn‘t it?”

Despite the hustle and bustle of the loud carnival, Kitten and Vanyel found themselves able to hear whisps of the conversation between the family behind them. It was most unfortunate however that the only thing Vanyel caught from Calanthe was the line "It's from the girl infront of us."
Quickly Vanyel turned around and placed her hands one her hips, her long sleeved draping half way down her thighs. "Hey, I don't know what it was, but It wasn't 'from' me," she retorted with a wrinkle of her nose. She obviously wasn't actually upset, just playfully testy about being accused of what she thought was something much less innocent than smelling like orange haze.
Kitten laughed and turned about as well, putting a hand infront of Vanyel and pushing her back a bit. Atleast if she planned on pouncing the long haired girl she'd need an extra step or two from the added distance. "I'm sorry about this..."

Lara laughed, how cute the red haired child appeared with her pose matching that of a scolding mother when she was hardly over the age of thirteen herself. She shook her head, looking down at Little Miss Orange. "It's really no trouble at all," Lara said, turning to meet the mother's eyes. "If anything it's our fault. We really shouldn't have been speaking about you," "It's not like it was anything bad," the creme haired girl chirped in. Eager to prove herself innocent. “ It's just that you smell like orange colour," "Fruit Calie, Orange fruit," "That too,"
Lara rolled her eyes, it was a strange to think that a child of her age still got them confused. It often seemed that she was a normal child, until things like that occurred. "Either way Miss, Calanthe and I would like to apologize,"
Calanthe would really need to get a better hold over what she said, she obviously didn't understand how saying things like that could effect people. What was she to do? clearly however, Calie cared very little as to what was going on. She continuously kept kicking into the dirt, looking ahead of the line to see how long until she got her fairy floss and generally being very fidgety. When would she learn such behaviour really was frowned upon?

Kitten smiled warmly and shook her head, releasing Vanyel and gently playing with one of her braid while she admired the other girl's light and lofty locks of hair. They were truly stunning. Honestly, Kitten was fairly interested in what she used to shampoo and condition, but she didn't really think it was the most appropriate topic to talk about at the moment.
At the mention of Vanyel smelling like oranges Kitten paled slightly; she wasn't sure if she should be explaining why or not. What did one say in a situation such as this? "Well, uhm, I actually can't get the smell off of her. I'm sorry if it' a distasteful smell to you but I'm sure once this line starts moving you'll be rid of it."
Vanyel put her hands on her hip and gave an irritated look. "Excuse me? You make it sound like I'm a bad scent. Didn't you pick me out? I'll have you know that a large majority of people prefer fruity, citrus scents like myself to other scents. If you disliked it so much then I suppose you should have picked a different cup. Maybe you'd prefer the scent of wet dog."

“Oh we didn’t think that at all Miss! Really it‘s a very pretty smell,”Lara was already apologising before she had heard the end of Lady kitten’s sentence, but what she did heed was when the older women said she couldn’t get rid of the smell, and what did the child mean by “You picked me”?
“I…actually have the same dilemma with Calanthe,” she gestured to the Vanilla-Coconut scented girl. “Did…How to put this. Did you come across your little one only after you brought some incense oil, from a store run by a girl with curly brown hair and a freckled boy with the faint smell of mint?”
Mean while, Calanthe was still pushing her way to the front of the candy floss line. Not caring a bit for the conversation Lara or her new adult friend might be having. A few people grumbled about being pushed back, but Callie didn’t seem to mind at all. Far to eager for the pink thing to listen to any comments from those she passed.

The womans cheeks grew even more pale at the sound of Vanyel's voice. The girl was going to get Kitten thrown into jail talking like that! She wasn't some kidnapper who just goes around plucking children from their caring families! With a nervous smile, Kitten opened her mouth to reply but was stopped by Lara's comment about a store that was described in quite the familiar fashion. "How...how do you know about that store?" she asked with a blank expression before realizing that it was a stupid question. How else would she have been able to describe the store if she'd never been there?
Vanyel, the ever helpful, piped up as if she could read Kitten's mind, "Clearly she's been there and clearly she's picked up her own scent, namely the girl that's ignoring the purpose of a line." Vanyel's words didn't sound harsh and nor was she intending them to be, but they were certainly a slight less pleasant than the girl usually acted. It was likely from feeling insulted by her mothers choice of words about her scent. She liked her scent very much, thank you.

Lara looked at the girl, and then back at her guardian. She was astounded to have met someone who had also been to the store there. She was about to speak, when Calanthe pushed a bright, fluffy, pink thing in her face. “See! We have the fairy floss now! We don’t have to stay in line with these people anymore,”Lara was about to say something apologetic, but she felt a giant tug on her arm as Calanthe pulled her away, the eyes of many disgruntled queue holders following. She looked back regretfully and mouthed the word sorry back to the woman. “It was nice meeting you anyway!” Lara had really wanted to ask her about that sore, maybe she knew more.
