I have this live-in internship this summer and I'm a little nervous. Its going to be the first time I'm at a completely different city knowing absolutely no one. Not a soul. Any tips on what professional theatres are like?

I was in a similar situation about a year ago. I mean, I was still in high school, still living at home, but I was on an internship at a completely different company, full of people quite a bit older than myself, and I have to say, it was a very important learning experience. At least for me. I'd never been within the realm of a professional theatre company until then and it was quite a change. I loved it and I still return occasionally when I can.
Just some tips: -Ask a lot of questions. Don't feel dumb about it. -The number of times you say "How can I help?" will directly correlate to weather or not you are hired permenantly. -Don't feel like you have to be friends with everybody. I guarantee you won't be. -Hang out with the troupe outside of rehearsal times to get to know them better. -Learn to love craptastic coffee if you haven't already. -Know the neighborhood where you live, the best places to eat, THE PLACES TO AVOID and the best highway routes/bus routes, however you'll be travelling.
Good luck with the internship! Keep us posted on how you're doing!

I am in a situation commonly labeled as"internship" but it is not as extreme as moving to a new place...I internship at an Academy in my state I teach dance classes and watch profesionals teach classes and run acting programs It is tons of fun and I can't wait to work there someday!

Here's some advice: Have Fun! Learn as much as you can and enjoy the expereince. It's exciting to move somewhere new. I hope it all goes well for you. What area is your internship in? Acting? Tech?
