I read up on the history of abortion....

You know Oman, from the bible? Well, he spilt his 'seed' on the ground, and did not let it off inside the woman, to keep her from getting pregnant. According to the bible, this was 'evil'

It was really because back then, sex was only for making children, not for pleasure, so it was considered 'evil' to have any form of birth control. Seman was believed to contain 'tiny men and women' and the good sperm, when inside a woman, was like a seed, and it grew like a plant grows in a field, into a little 'man', and the deformed sperm grew into a 'little woman'. This religious practice continued, and some catholics seem to believe birth control is 'sin' so when abortion came around, they believed that it was 'murder'

I always interpretted that passage to be more pertaining to masturbation.

The passage is not meant to say that sex for pleasure is wrong. Onan was not considered 'evil' for having sex and withdrawing. He was condemned for not giving his brother's widow a child because he was a greedy a*****e. God wanted Onan's brother's line to continue, but when he died prematurely God asked Onan to give his brother's widow a child so the bloodline could go on. Onan withdrew to deny his dead brother the right of having children.

People read Genesis 38:8-10 but don't take into account the stuff before and after that little bit.

Sadly, this is probably the only part of the bible that I'm familiar with. sweatdrop

Like Lilac mentioned, many people misunderstand that part of the bible. They only know that story, and they take it way out of context because they don't know the details leading up to the story. God was angry because he told the man to impregnate the woman. The man disobeyed God. That is why the story is about. It has nothing to do with God getting angry about sex being for pleasure.

I'd like to know how you think pertains to the history of abortion? Because semen contains "little men and women"? That's in reference to the semen alone. After an egg has been fertilized, that's something completely different.

A lot of Christians are against abortion because they believe every child you bore is a gift from God, and therefore if he gave you that gift, to deny it is to deny a gift from God.

Also, don't post the SAME THING in different forums and edit your first line to try and make it apply to each forum. That's spamming, and against guild rules.

Depends on if you believe that or not.
Different forms of religion believe different things.

Its a book. Its truth depends on the reader.
