EDIT 8/02/07: I cannot summarize Torchwood better than HappyBanana, when she said: It's like taking Leonardo De Vinci and telling him to go finger paint. xp ------------------------------------------------------ The Torchwood sub-forum is really dead, but perhaps someone will see this interesting tidbit? *sigh* EDIT 4/13/07: I figured that I would change the name, as it might sound a bit more intellectual, and that's what I'm aiming for. Perhaps more people will read it now? It's actually quite good for a read...As part of the new BBC America lineup, Torchwood will be joining the ranks of other shows such as Hex, Life on Mars, and a renewed season of Doctor Who. The spinoff will air on 'Supernatural Saturday' along with Doctor Who. It only mentions the change starting "later this year", without giving any specifics. Here is the official article: BBC AmericaWhat do you think about Torchwood airing in the US? Will they edit out some of the more adult sections, such as the swearing/sexuality? (even some of the bloodshed is quite gory) Or will they opt to leave it as-is? What do you think is better, and why? It has a reputation for being for an adult audience; do you think they will tone it down for the US airings or not? Please discuss. This isn't a place to say why you like/dislike TW; therefore no bashing (or I would be bashing like crazy) Thanks!

I don't mind that sort of stuff. Honestly, nothing can shock me. I'd rather like to see Torchwood. I've been involved in a Torchwood-based RP since November-- we're incredibly PG, though.
Oh, wait just a minute! My eleven-year-old sister would simply insist on watching it. After all, it's Doctor Who! Sort of...
Bloody hell.
She would so insist on watching it.
BBCA, WHY MUST YOU BE SO CRUEL?! I'm not having my sister watch Captain Jack actually make good on his constant flirting with everything that moves!
I'm suddenly feeling incredibly aware of how little of that sort of stuff there is on Doctor Who. Sheesh, that's the whole problem, isn't it? No one will suspect that a spin-off of a show whose protagonist is more or less asexual and has probably never been heard to swear more than once in the whole last century would be more on a par with "Footballers' Wives" or something...
Pardon me while I panic because my little sister is so going to want to watch Torchwood. I've told her, once or twice, little things I've heard-- about the hand in the jar and all that. So stupid of me! I didn't expect she'd have the opportunity to watch it! Bloody hell.

So stupid of me! I didn't expect she'd have the opportunity to watch it! Bloody hell. See, there you have it. I don't mind it, myself, just a little too much in the 'sexual' category. Especially seeing as how the second episode is chock full of it. I'm fine with watching half of that stuff, although I'm repulsed at times, but for my sisters or even my dad, to be in the same room with them seeing it...I don't wanna go there. I mean, we aren't stupid about what goes on, but...ehhh I'd be really uneasy.. Quote: I'm suddenly feeling incredibly aware of how little of that sort of stuff there is on Doctor Who. Sheesh, that's the whole problem, isn't it? No one will suspect that a spin-off of a show whose protagonist is more or less asexual and has probably never been heard to swear more than once in the whole last century would be more on a par with "Footballers' Wives" or something... Exactly..Captain Jack has really changed everything around...according to his file on Wikipedia, it's the first time on Doctor Who that someone was completely nekkid on the show (albeit a few strategically placed props and camera angles) and the first kiss between two males. Even that last one made me uneasy, and that was obviously Jack being himself. The only spin-offs that Who has ever generated were the early 'K-9 and Company', and the remake of that with Sarah Jane and K-9 last year. Both were rated below Doctor Who in terms of content, as it was for little kids. And the animated Doctor Who is just the same content as the original. As for the swearing, DW keeps it really limited, and even then by today's standards it wouldn't be considered very bad. Torchwood drops the F-bomb a few times per episode, not to mention the innuendos, *cough* relationships between characters *cough* and the large amounts of gore. I definitely recommend that you don't let your little sister see this... Yeah, at first, I didn't think the concept of Torchwood was so bad either. It was explained to some extent on Doctor Who, and the idea of a spinoff sounded fine. The Doctor's hand in the jar, who wouldn't wanna see that? And the aliens and monsters and gadgets, and of course Captain Jack was so adorable in Who, it sounds pretty cool! ........and then comes the reality... >.<

Me? Let her? I'd never! But I could hardly stop her. Short of shutting the TV off every time they mentioned that Torchwood would be on... she's very nearly as big a Doctor Who fan as I am. And...
I simply cannot let her watch Torchwood! But, nor can I stop her. And there'd be a tremendous row if I tried to get my parents to stop her from watching it. She'd pitch a fit... I guess it can't be helped. gonk
Is there a single episode without any sex in it?! I mean, honestly! I bet you there's some sort of bizarre force emanating from the Rift, which makes all of Torchwood Three completely incapable of not falling into bed with each other... no other explanation. Besides the obvious one, that RTD loves shocking people.

I bet you there's some sort of bizarre force emanating from the Rift, which makes all of Torchwood Three completely incapable of not falling into bed with each other... no other explanation. Besides the obvious one, that RTD loves shocking people. Um. Yeah. See... It depends on your definition. Not necessarily every episode has sex, but all of them have one guy (usually Jack) snogging another guy. sweatdrop How do I put this in simple terms? No. There is no single episode of Torchwood to my knowledge (I've seen 1-4, 12 & 13) that I think would be suitable for most (naive-er) people to see. Namely people under the age of 13-14.. (wow, the whole 'PG-14' rating makes sense now). Sorry to break it to you, but you should really try avoiding letting your sister see Torchwood.. either that or have some good excuse to leave the room for about an hour. And then you tape it and watch it later. 3nodding Over in the UK, isn't it some kind of unwritten rule that says 'anything after 9PM is usually rated for mature audiences' ? At least, that's my impression. So I'm sure TW would be shown later at night on BBCA, and then repeated at something like 1AM (since it would be considered 'new'). I know 'Whose Line is it Anyway' can sometimes get pretty bad, especially with the innuendo stuff, the censors can't block it out. And it's shown at 10PM on BBCA. So I'm assuming Torchwood would be 10, 11 PM maybe? It'd be a Saturday anyways... So on the hopeful side, chances are, it'll show up late at night, just get your recorder ready for it, and possibly your sister in bed? (good luck, saturdays I'm always up late despite church in the morning wink ) -looks at post- Boy, I sure love talking! 3nodding sweatdrop

seffy_chan I'm moving this to the Torchwood sub-forum... please don't be offended. Oh don't worry, I was expecting that from somebody eventually... 3nodding Hopefully some people saw it on the main page though, since now that S1 of Torchwood is over, this sub-forum is mainly deserted. I just wanted people to know about Torchwood coming to America, is all. Easier than spamming every single board, don'tcha think? wink although seeing as how I've probably done that anyways..... xd And I thought it would make for a nice discussion group, don't you? Something to talk about, and without bashing or anything! Yay!

SHE WATCHES "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE"~! gonk Or she stays up for it, at any rate, as a pretext to watch anime and play on the computer.
This, I suppose, will be a problem. Oh, well. I suppose my mum and dad will just... not let her. Fun.

I have never seen SNL, I suppose it's like the US version of, what, Friday Night Project? (I saw the one with Tennant as guest host only - that was enough for me) xp xp So...if it's anything near that, perhaps... Although watching someone do someone else on the telly...the room gets really quiet and everyone tries to look anywhere but at someone else. At least, that's how I assume it goes. Especially with family watching it. Of course, with friends my age, I find I have no problem watching something a bit lower rated than TW with them. We'd laugh at the innuendo jokes, and have no problem, but the adults come in and we'd hush up real fast. Very strange. redface

Which involves the occasional screen-overwhelming mess of silly-looking animated blood but hardly any sex at all.
SNL kind of has stupid almost-dirty jokes. But, you know... childish stuff. Nothing remotely close to sex-powered aliens or anything...

To be fair, that sex-powered alien was only one episode.....but you're probably gonna be better off either not mentioning Torchwood around your sister or something...I know my sister would be grossed out and I am, at times..and she watches stuff like CSI and Bones *shudder* all the time. Gore isn't much of an issue now....

So what I'm getting from this is Torchwood is really dirty and that I need to be cautious when I watch it so my dad doesn't kill me. Hmm, interesting.
