Rules
1. Follow the T.O.S that Gaia laid out when you joined this website. Obviously you must know something about it, because you're not banned yet.
1a. Swearing is perfectly fine as long as it's not ******** this s**t that every other word. If you have a violent character (or one with tourettes for that matter) then make sure you use swearing sparingly if at all.
2. You are not Agent Smith. You are not the 'end-all-be-all' of the Universe (Matrix in this case) or anyone of such significant importance that everyone knows who you are (unless a storyline calls for it).
The point of the Matrix is to fit in and so you're likely going to play a character that is only a piece of the puzzle such as an Agent or a Secondary Programmer.
3. Characters of extreme power must be submitted to me (Agent Schuler) or one of the crew for review. You can do this through PM by sending the character's profile. If you're not sure whether or not your character is too powerful, submit it and we'll decide for you. It is fine to play a powerful character so long as there are limits placed on him/her.
4. When a fight occurs, make sure all of your attacks are attempts. If you make your moves definite, it doesn't leave any room for the other person to choose what their own character is doing. Breaking this rule will result in either a stern talking to or a ban from the guild if it persists.
ie: Rebel Jerk cuts Agent Bob in half.
Sorry, Rebel Jerk, but you need to try cutting him in half. No doubt he's likely to do a backflip over your head and try to kick you in the arse.
4a. In addition to this, please make sure your character doesn't always dodge everything that is thrown at him/her. Nobody likes fighting a person who is invincible.
5. Try to keep your posts at a moderate length. I do not expect paragraphs from everyone at all times, but one-word or emoticon posts are typically frowned upon.
6. Information you read here stays here unless your character has experienced it first hand or has had someone roleplay spying for you.
Just because you read a post about a meeting between two characters doesn't mean your character 'heard about it' or 'knows someone who knows someone'. Be fair, guys.

Characters
As with every roleplay area, the Agency has some 'main characters'. These are figures which are (usually) commonly known to people who enter the Agency. Such people include the Primary Programmers, Patrol Agents, The Architect, and others on this list.
The Architect - The Architect is the machine-designated 'deus ex' of the physical Matrix network. While appearing as a single entity from a human's perspective, this man is actually the collective conscience of the machines as a whole. His decisions are based upon a majority rule minority right system to ensure that all machines are spoken for with each of his words. Human emotions do not sway the Architect at all as he is very clear, blunt, and logically-minded.
Primary Programmers - These are the powerhouse characters we warned you about. As long as a Primary Programmer is in the Agency or Matrix, he/she has almost complete dominance. Programmers are constantly seeing to the upkeep of the Matrix. They are responsible for the weather, how many petals fall off a certain plant on a certain day at a certain hour, what color your dog's vomit is, and many other small and insignificant things that in the end control everything.
Most of these Programmers never leave the Agency, preferring to exist as and view the world through bland code. To date there are only two Primaries that enter the Matrix on a regular basis (numbers 25 and 26). Because they are not made to exist in that realm, Primaries have to create their own appearances which glitch from time to time.
Secondary Programmers - These Programmers are a cross-breed between the Patrol Agents and the Primaries. Their main task is to carry out patrols, captures, interrogations, and assassinations just like Patrol Agents, but they are able to fix small glitches in the Matrix such as a hole in the wall or maybe fifteen holes in a wall. They are also able to create objects within the Matrix, but their programming abilities require the use of a tool such as a laptop or computer of some sort.
Patrol Agents - Patrol Agents are the common work force of the Architect sent out to police the Matrix and keep the peace. Examples of these Agents would be Johnson, Jackson, Thompson, Jones, and Brown. Why not Smith? Well, Smith liked to cut in line at the Agency cafeteria which, decidedly, was not an act of keeping the peace.
Task Agents - Unlike patrol Agents, these are rogue programs which have either defected to the side of the machines, or are performing tasks for them out of fear for their lives. They are rarely found inside the actual Agency but are frequently contacted by those who are.
