Welcome to the border princes game- Warhammer based of course- and ready for some epic clashes. The campaign will begin with a setting for something mysterious and might allow the players to glean treasures unimaginable- more power than most. There is a condition- a deadly condition. Welcome to the lands of the Border Princes, a land where the strong carve out kingdoms for themselves.

Rules:
-Dont create something too far from warhammer (aka, no random creations of mythical proportions)
-If you dont know warhammer, dont try too hard to fake us out (There are not a lot of dnd world similarities in creatures.)
-Death happens, just try to avoid it.
-I am not wrong, just sometimes misguided.
-these rules can and will be added to

The Headsman

A man, clad mostly in black with embellishments around his neck in the form of fine lace, reads off the crimes charged. The time leading up to this point have been strange indeed.
Each of you has been chaged with the capital crimes of heresy and treason. The capture was surely not always peaceful, and more than one new grave certainly had to be dug due to certain individuals. The law in these areas is always abnormal, but so are the politics. Day to day the person ruling your town might change, and with it the laws. It seems that always more people arrive seeking fame and fortune to replace the dead from the wars. Some of the longer lasting rulers carve small empires, but soon realize that 'longest lasting' means 'more than a year.' The jaded regions have become used to this fact. Some kings have become paranoid, especially the small king Uthos. This dwarf, which you stand trial for now is in a poor position with the latest conquests of his, spreading troops more thinly over the realm.
The man reading the crimes clears his throat and begins.
"Hear all and know:
Each of these ten men are charged with the crime of heresy against the crown and treason against said crown. The penalty for each is death, amounting in torture and death. The courts will now hear the verdict of the jury.
The fact is that the trial was well staged, as the group was lucky enough to have a jury. The smiths bound the ten of you with some of the best shackles they had. They seemed to be expecting them back soon really. The trail had focused around several clearly paid witnesses, supposidly uncovering a plot involving the ten planning against the crown. The group was not allowed to speak in their own defense, and was gagged if they tried too often. The stage had been set well enough that the verdict ran to a certain tune.
"We, the council of the tried, find these individuals...
guilty"

That was no surprise. Everything seemed properly planned. Executions were common in these parts just to sate crowds.
The judge, who is also king, leans forward, intent on seeing any reason come forth from the ten now, who were offered this one chance.
"Have ye anything te say?"

The silence was deafening.

Your choices began.

Sursqueek coughs a bit and, through the muffling effects of a concealing mask, begins to show exactly why he is known as "the boring" in a slightly squeeky, but droning, soporific voice

"My good Majesty, Most bold, honorable, trustworthy, sane, and level headed is quite considerate giving us shackles of what could only be the finest iron in the land. To be honost though, which I am most often except regarding a few carefully placed subjects, I, that is to say if I were in your most immaculate footwear, would take into careful consideration how much loyalty does one carry when said loyalty is to coin and cold, rather than,as is the case with most true and honorable civilians, to sovreign crown and beautious country, and the marvellous beard of their sagacious ruler. Indeed, though most asuredly I would hate to flatter his most magnanimous majesty too greatly as to cloud his wise and crystalline vision, I might say that such a grand beard as yours is liable to make any elf wish they were a dwarf to have it.
However as pleasant as pleasantries are, I would like to say a few more things in relation to the grusomness of the matter. I would like to request that my notebook be either returned to me for the remainder of my life which should be the mentioned 30 day grace period before you perform the execution."

"oh and my throat is a little dry"
PostPosted: Sat Apr 07, 2007 6:00 pm

"You may have yer book back. I pay my executioner by the hour, and can ne spend more time, like those thirty days. Your throat shall be noted."
A scribe quickly scrawls a note, and a guard offers you a small canteen of water, a probable last drink.
The king is seemingly trying to figure out what is strange with his beard...

"If His Most Royal Majesty pleases he could save a good, indeed perhaps even great sum, on executioner's fee's by simply cancelling the executions, which were rather hastily assigned..."

Sursqueek then takes a drink from the cup of water.
"and thank you for the beverage."

As he speaks he surveys his immediate surroundings, and current position, as well as the other, oddly silent, prisoners.

"Most Honorable and wise King Uthos (special care to misspronounce the kings name), I to would like to offer my thanks for your kindness, even to us, the most heinous of criminals. Not only do you do us much undue kindness in giving us the greatest manicles in the land, but i see that the axe has been sharpend as to alliviate our suffering. I can only hope that you will take it upon yourself to free us, for alas it was not our fault that we went up against the crown, for we do enjoy being ruled by someone, who is but a misguidence to any noble hearted, kind, enlightened ruler, and we can all bask in your penuriousness. But I digress, It was not our fault that we commited these treasoness acts, but we were under a curse by a powerful witch, and it was only through our love for you that we were able to fight the curse" As Thanatos finishes speaking he gets down on his knees as if to kiss the ground beneeth the king. While there he grabs the lockpick hidden inside his boots. [slight of hand check I do believe so the roll+13=?

I'd like to make a knowledge local +5 , and knowledge nobility +7, to learn what I can about this particular "king"....

Meanwhile, in Dwarven of course, "My dear king, I'm as regretful as any currently among us for what has happened, but in all honesty I did not know the charges I was being held on until only today, at this very trial... I cannot argue against that which has been displayed against myself or these men but, perhaps there is another way to handle this situation... I'm sure one such as yourself can think of some way to make this whole situation more pleasing to the people of your kingdom. I'm sure they'd appreciate seeing a softer side to the throne, after seeing so many of their brethren sent to secure your more recent conquests abroad.
I'm merely mean to say that killing us may not be the only option for you...

"Er, I am quite sorry to be the one te inform ye of this, but there is a matter of a deposit... Ah yes, your text."
The leige points to a man who tucks a book, your well-traveled book, in your arm, securely fastened still by the manacles.
You see it is a line of exactly ten prisoners, all of mostly varying races. You can spot some trades from spellcraft to subtlety to not-so-subtlety. The gallows stand just a short distance away in waiting, as though someone knew the verdict before it was called. A man seems to be clamoring over a peice of rope and trying to reach the darker character. The others seem to be bound in a similar fashion to yourself, not undignified, but secure.

((You might want to make a hide sheck since you are infront of an audiance, but maybe because it is a large courtroom, you might see that unnecissary.))
"Yes, yes. Heinous crimes and all. The court actually has the sentance of burning anyone who has been possest lest ye get possesed again. We happen to be sentancing you to a favorable fashion with one of the top executioners...
Ah, there he be!"
The man who was clamoring to reach the rogue who just spoke waves to the audiance. He pipes up, whispering a request to the rogue.
"Mind if I gget yer signature? I ddoubt many more will..."
He offers a stylus to the still bound hand to sign a length of rope. The future purpose seems to match that of some already set lengths at not a far distance...

Unfortunately, as you hear a releiving click, you start to hear a grinding noise, as though the entire mechanism has shifted to set to a completely different key, if any key. The manacles seem to not only look wonderous, but actually be some of the best you've come by. In fact, it is so great that you might feel the need to request them... if you'd have time to study them.

((Wow everyone is rolling well.))
The king has gained his throne legally, as all rulers of the area have. Just beacuse about a dozen fellows who would have gotten the throne had unfortunate accidents to killed eachother in duels (which often happened without being staged). He has ruled with a heavy, though not iron, fist and a wary eye, suspecting everyone of some crime. He seems to be one of the more reasonable fellows of the area, but fails to stay reasonable, sometimes having witch hunt like forays where he kills individuals like gladiators, aware of the people's cries for justice. It is strange that almost everyone he called up did commit a crime that was heinous when he was killed... at least no one could prove otherwise in most cases...
I the ranks of nobility he seems to have enough faint traces of blood to make him a bit of every race if his claims are to be believed. The common art of changing your bloodline also connects him indirectly to every god in the panthion (and several pagan ones). The true heraldry is that he is decended from lesser nobles who have made a buisness of politics and menuvered their way to the top.

The king looks over the unresponsive individuals (mostly) and decrees his verdict.
"On the charges found against them, on purpose that they could not be found innocent, they are herebe scentanced to hang fer ther crimes. The verdict will be looked over three days after the hanging. I will hear no more discussion of this here case. Yer all dismissed, court adjurned."

The group begins to move you toward the nooses as though you were stars. I believe then that since such a sight of ten individuals being hung on the same day is only a yearly event, the group of ten can clearly smell roast waiting the crowds outside the courtyard. The smell of the new spring dew seems oddly renewed in this instance, perhapse because the moment before one dies, they feel more than ever before.

The hangman takes his position, hopefully with the signed rope which he thanks the rogue for signing. Each person is now being fitted for their noose.
"Any last of yer werds?" calls the king.

Thanatos grins at the request made by his executioner. And in a low whisper speaks to the executioner "You know, if you were to let me free, i could pay you 1000 gold, just to spare my head, i really could care less about the others." As hes whispering Thanatos surveys the suroundings, and procedes to sign the rope. "It would be quite a shame, if one who has commited as many crimes as me was hung with this rope, its not even expensive....Im acctually quite insulted."

Eira
Saddened that it seems death is soon to come, she prepares to cast lightning bolt and/or obscuring mist, (probably in that order...) if things continue this way...

She then says"I see, so there is no way to change your mind, is there nothing that I... (correcting herself) we could do to assist the crown, surely we are more expendable than your troops, and if we were to die in service to you, it would at least have a shred of honor to it... I have no choice however, so... Here we go..."
and I wait to see if anything new happens before I take any other actions

Before he responds, you hear a second click and you now know that you have succeeded in locking yourself more deeply into the manacles (that was a 1) However, you manage to see that the man is infact a master at the craft of execution. He jas set everything to a high quality. At least no troubleing suffocations will occur.
"Actually, I am already paid 1,000 per hour. Unfortunately, after plying my trade, a few got a notion to try it on myself, making need for a certain gift by that there fellow. I should still be working iff the debt. Perhapse I shall see you on the otherside in any case."
The noose slides comfortably around your neck.
"comfortable?"
