My favorite subject in school was always art... but I liked english too.

When I got to college, my favorite classes were Japanese and Costume History and Sewing.

i clicked other, due to the fact i had a few favorites. sciences were a big favorite. and right up there was american and world history. i can still tell you a lot of historical facts from basically any era. when i got to college, my favorite class was physics. granted, in high school, i never took any math above algebra. but i taught myself trig and calculus. although my most favorite class was metal fabrication class.

My favorite classes are my Asian literature classes, although in the past, I've had history classes that were just as fun. Any class taught by Dr. Shapiro is a blast, since not only does he really love what he teaches (and it shows), but he's the fun type of insane. He's fluent in Chinese, so he tends to write notes out on the board or overhead in Chinese, forgetting that most of the class can't read them. Or he gets into a lecture, then leaves the classroom and walks down the hall, still lecturing. And his lectures are always littered with anecdotes, either myths or stories from the time period being discussed, or stories from his time in Taiwan, working as a bit actor in martial arts movies.

The language classes are probably my least favorite, since no matter how hard I work at it, I'm just not good at them. stressed It's very frustrating.

Favorite class-- A hard one!!

Either:
A. Theatre History in College with Dr. Leonard
B. Physiological Psychology with Dr. Aruguete (A hard, hard class, but Dang, did we LEARN)
C. Mythology in High School
or
D. The Novel- a class in high school where all we did was sit around and read books of our choice-- PERFECT for last period, I polished off Les Miserables, Scarlet Pimpernel, King and Goddess by Judith Tarr, Hinds Feet in High Places, Screwtape Letters, and something else I think... Les Miserables obviously consumed a lot of my semester hee hee.

Best Professor? For different reasons here are some of my top picks--

Dr. Leonard- very very very smart woman, wonderful lectures, hard but feasible tests, you LEARNED. Also, excellent taste of plays, I really loved what I read for that class. Plus she made us all laugh when she talked about Euripides's "Electra" play with her mimicking Athena being lowered down in a basket and saying "Everything is Jake!"

Dr. Aurguete- Once again VERY very intelligent woman, awesome lectures. Hysterical sense of humor, she taught my human sexuality class, boy the funny pictures she put into her slides. Very likeable person, her tests were HARD, HARD HARD. Five hours of studying was my standard, but if you studied you got a really good grade. Also that woman could have had you learn the phonebook, memorized. I couldn't know half of what I do about the brain if it wasn't for her. That takes skill in a professor

Dr. Havig- History Professor, Undergrad. This man was superb, very laid back approach, sat in ordinary clothes in the same desks the students did, propped up his feet. He kind of was like the grandfather I never had, telling us all stories about history. Once again, boy did you learn!

Mr. Zimmerman- Math teacher, High School. He made the math make sense somehow. Plus, one time when I made a slight oversight and adding error on a test he gave me points for it, I asked him about it (having seen a wrong answer but a correct score) and he said "You knew what you were doing, you just made a little mistake" few teachers would be that awesome.

almost forgot!

Madam Robertson- High school French Teacher. She was very helpful and explained things to us. Most of all she encouraged us to be not just better students but better people. We weren't allowed to trash talk anybody in that class. She also handed out buttons about not weighing out self esteem after we all were swapping dieting tips. She made French un bon chose, vraiment. Most of all she was perhaps the first teacher ever to believe in me the moment I walked in the door. I came from the working class so my appearance often wasn't one of a stellar student (raggedy clothes, crummy shoes, etc) By her believing in me I was given the push to actually really care about my studies. Looking back I owe a lot of thanks to her encouragement, which lived on to keep me going during undergrad and now grad. I was always ok at school stuff, got pretty good grades, but now I'm usually at the top of my class.

I think that's what really makes a good teacher, the ones who can take the kids who don't believe in themselves, the ones like me who didn't have anyone in their corner, and help them see their potential.
