Tope was getting more and more aggitated with himself and those around him. He couldn't stand it anymore, the way his father faked his happiness-his mothers silent speaking-his brothers words-his sisters. Everything. He wanted to be alone for a bit-just a bit. He was safe. He didn't wander around like a total buffoon. He was smart-unlike his father. He should have known not to watch his birth. It was law. He growled deep in his throat, walking angerly. He hated it. He hated that he and his brother had to suffer for this damn curse. It wasn't his fault. NOT THEIR FAULT.

He began to run-fast. He wanted to be alone. So alone. He ran, tears running down his face from his pink eyes. It wasn't fair. Everything felt like it was his fault. If hadn't been born. If only-

I hate it. I hate it allHe spat, slumping down in a bunch of brush, letting his tears dry on his cheeks. He rubbed them across his paws. He wasn't a cryer. He didn't cry. He was not like them.

Mum was dead.

What did that mean exactly? Jini'pomoka knew it had to be a bad thing, a very, very bad thing because her heart ached desperately. She knew that never again would she hear her mother's voice, feel her warmth or smell her scent again. She was gone. A memory.

She wanted to cry and her chest heaved with silent sobs, but for now she held them back. Mummy had told her not to be sad, not to cry, because she would no longer be in pain. She was up in the stars with her mother - Pomoka's grandmother, Bakhti.

She flopped down onto the dusty ground and looked at hre paws, wondering why they suddenly looked larger than she remembered. Everything had changed, everything. She wanted to turn back time, to become a helpless little cub again.

She wanted mummy.

She sniffed, her little nsoe wrinkling as she tried to sort through the muddles in her mind. Oh how she wished things could have been normal!

Then she heard it, the voice of another, and she perked up her ears, peering around her.

"Who's there?" She questioned, getting nervously to her paws. She took a few steps back and sniffed daintily at the air. "Who's there?" This time her voice was stronger, more demanding.

Tope cleaned his face again and again, trying to get the tear streaks off his face. Young men didn't cry. Ever. He shuttered a sigh, looking down at the ground with his pink eyes still watery. He hated this. He just wanted to leave. To get away from his awful pain and fear that haunted his damn family. He hated it soo badly. There wasn't much he hated. His father perhaps. No-he didn't hate him. Did he? He looked down, looking sort of sad. Then-he heard someone.

No-he couldn't let someone see him cry. He stood quicky, looking left and right with a puffed out chest. He wasn't crying. He never did. He looked towards the second sound, her voice again. A girl. He looked at her briefly. There was an odd mask on her face, sort of like ardhi-his brother. He blinked.

I'm here... He said, relaxing a bit. Then he remembered he had been crying and sniffed his nose quicky.

Boys don't cry

He had been crying. His eyes had that strange, glossy sheen that hers did when she had been holding back her own tears. She tried to give him a smile but failed miserably. In fact trying to look cheerful only made her feel more depressed.

She lowered her head a little, not moving back nor forwards now as she stared into those pink eyes. She found comfort in eyes that were so bright, for though her mother had been blessed with blue eyes, she had been given the eyes of her father - though she had never met him.

"Hello." She whispered gently. "Are you all alone?" She couldn't smell anyone else nearby so she was assuming he was for now. "Is there...something wrong?" She had heard him mentioning 'hate' before and had to admit she was curious.

He looked at her for a moment, taking in her brilliant pink eyes, like his only diffrent. He was lost for a moment, they were brighter than his mothers eyes too.. he had never seen such a brilliant color. He shook his head, trying to not be rude. Why shouldn't he? She was interupting his... what-his crying. How lame was he. He bit his cheek, before looking back up at her from behind his dark beginings of a mane. He was stunned for a moment. Was it just him or were her eyes very watery looking. He thought for a moment. Perhaps he wasn't the only one crying out here. He blinked. Hello. He said softly, a bit shyly. Yeah. I am alone... He said a bit louder, not so shyly.

He looked up at her when she asked her third question and he stood there for a moment, before he took a step towards her. He opened his mouth to speak-shut it for a moment-then opened it again to speak.
I was just... sad I suppose-or angry. Just... I dunnoHe said simply, looking away from her for a moment, to regain his composure. He didn't want to start crying. The topic was still raw to him. Raw and painful

She knew that she had been warned against talking to strangers, that she couldn't trust outsiders because rogues had been brought up differently from other lions, yet as she looked at him she wondered if rogues were so bad after all. Perhaps he wasn't even a rogue at all! She wanted to ask but didn't want to seem rude.

"There's a lot of sadness in the world right now." She agreed with a small nod. "Is there really nothing good about living? Is the world so cruel that it has to steal the joy from the cub's hearts." She bit on her lip to silence her thoughts, feeling her front legs tremble. Suddenly she felt weak and she sat herself down, her ears drooping.

"I'm Jini'pomoka." She smiled bitterly then, it was a suitable name.

Tope watched her and listened too her sweet words. Did his mind just speak through her. His thoughts were so similar. He blinked slowly, looking down at his feet for a moment. He was drawn too her sadness and hurt-if that was what she was feeling. He wanted to embrace her and make her pain go away-just as badly as he wanted his to go away. He looked up at her and nodded too her words.Pain seems to seep from everything I touch and everyone I speak too...He said simply, blinking slowly and sadly.

Pain stung him deep in the chest, like a wasp. Pain burned his eyes and heart and he wanted it to stop-but most of all... He wanted her pain to stop-again if that was what she was feeling. Something about her wanted him to save her-from this hell.

Happy to meet you Jini'pomoka. I am Tope He said in turn, his name meaning dirt-his heritage. His birthrite. Born a marsh child.

"I'm sure it doesn't" Pomoka replied hesitantly, "Well I hope it doesn't!" She gave him her best smile. "That's why I'm out here all alone, you know? Trying to find that little bit of happiness." She nodded then and wondered whether it realyl existed or whether she was searching in vain.

"Tope. I like the sound of that. Sometimes I wish I had been given a shorter name. It's much easier when giving introductions." With a swish of her tail she got to her legs again, her front ones buckling with the strain of her arthritus. She winced and crumped to the ground, laying on her belly.

"I think I walked too far today." She grimaced.

Tope Watched her speak and did not know how he was supposed to react to they pretty way she worded her-words. He swallowed a lump in his throat before looking over too her. That little bit of happiness? When had he last been happy? Had he ever. Perhaps when he was a bumbling cublet but... he didn't know. He sighed and looked away from her for a moment and down at his feet. Was he shy?I just wanted to get away from my family for a while-they have been making me angry... I'm tired of being angry... I wish I could find happiness. He said, looking back up at her with his pink eyes a bit watery. That had been happening for a long time.

He liked his short name, minus the fact that his name was short like his fathers (tweak) but he liked his name none the less. Dirt-thats what he was-dirt. He blinked and watched her stumble and before he knew what he was doing he was at her side worried.

Are you alright? He asked quickly, nosing her shoulder slightly with his tan nose. Was she alright?

"If happiness even exists." Pomoka grunted as she got back to her feet, shaking the dust from her coat. She paused and looked into the face of the young male, nodding somewhat irritably. "Yes, I'm fine. Just tired. My legs aren't very strong yet." She thought back to what her mother had told her and gritted her teeth, wishing that things could have been different.

"I was born weak, apparently." With a swish of her tail she continued onwards, limping as she went. Everything, she hated everything and knowing that there were others in this world suffering too made her heart ache.

"But one day Tope, I'll make sure that no one suffers anymore. Not by the paws of those red beasts anyway." She hissed, and though she didn't seem to realise she was making no sense, it was clear something was angering and upsetting her.

Tope watched her get angry about something and his caring for this strange female was stronger each time she walked. He didn't know it-but is older sister also had problems with walking-she too had bad joints. He blinked slowly, walking next too her, his shoulder almost touching hers. He winced with each step. He wished she wouldn't walk if it hurt.

"I don't think you were born weak-You're not weak... I'm weak... I can't even stand up to my father and tell him I hate him for what he did too us.
He said angerly, He wanted to share her pain-he wanted her pain to stop. He blinked slowly and shook his head. Now wasn't in the mood to be angry... he wanted to be kind.

What happened? The red beasts-I don't understand" He asked softly, kindly-welcomly

She calmed as quickly as she had grown angry, slumping back to the ground and peering up at him somewhat helplessly. She knew he was only trying to be kind but deep down she knew she would always be weak. Would you ever see a strong lion with a limp? But that didn't matter. Perhaps one day she could use her weakness to her advantage. Make others underestimate her.

"Then we're both weak." She replied, "You for not standing up to your father and me for not being able to help my mother." She flinched her whiskers and stared down at her paws.

"It doesn't matter now. Nothing matters. Forget I said anything, please."

Tope shook his head frantically. He didn't want her to feel sad-it was making him feel... he didn't know what it made him feel like. He lay down next to her, wanting to make her sad go away. He reached out and put a paw on hers as she gazed at them. No-we are not weak. You are not weak Jini. Don't say that! please? You are so nice-and to be honest... I've never really had a friend before..." he said, looking down at their overlapping paws. He swallowed the lump in his throat for a moment before he looked up at her with his pink eyes glittering.

Everything matters... Forget my Dad... i don't care.. but please don't be sad-please?" He pleaded, nosing her shoulder softly. He didn't even see her weakness as a weakness-he saw it as strength. He had an admiration for her-if not more. Please?

She stared hard at his paw over hers and then shifted her gaze to his own face. His eyes, they were so beautiful. She wondered briefly who his father was and if perhaps they could be related. She swallowed back the lump in her throat and nodded once.

"Okay, okay. I won't be angry or sad anymore...well not for a little while atleast. So long as you aren't." And she gave him a stern look. In that look there was a proper little lady and a fiesty one at that. One day she would have her revenge, but until she was big enough she was determined to live, to live and make her mother proud.

"Tope...If you don't mind me asking. Are you related to a lion called...Zenoni." The name sounded and felt thick on her tongue. Never before had she spoken the name of her father. "It's just that...our eyes...they are so similar. My mother always told me it was a rare colour."

Tope looked briefly into her eyes, caught in how beautiful they were-like his mothers almost-only-only... better. He realized he was staring and turned away with a bit of a hurry to not make it look like he was appauled, though it was very apparent. He swallowed hard for a moment before she spoke to him and he smiled warmly. Of course-I'll be happy right now-only if you are happy too He said with a nod, glad that she was becoming happy again. He liked her better happy and he barely knew her. He smiled warmly again and listened to her question.

Looking puzzled he replied
"-Um... My mother has my eyes-her name is Kikawaida-from the swampland pride... until we got exiled... my fathers name is Umo-he has red eyes." He also said his fathers name with a slight distasteful sound. It was his fathers fault they were exiled... it was his fault they had no home. He shook his head of these thoughts and forced himself to forget-to make her happy. I doubt I am related to anyone. My Father came from no where and my mother was pretty much a hermit.... so its just my brother, sisters and me.
