Since the tavern is in-character, we'll have this OOC thread for now too.
For everybody on the goblin thread, I will continue posting this evening. Fargore and I went to see 300 last night (I say: it sucked, he says: it was good) and, well, I wanna give Paul another day to get back. But with or without him, we're getting back on schedule today.

300 was a very beautifully made movie.. And it's not so Macho as people would have it either.
Especially liked the scene where arrows start raining over them.. And they just sit laughing. *grins* Reminded me a bit of Vikings !

Well, the cartoon predecessor of 300 -is- based on a real story. (atleast as real as history gets.. razz ) But I was more thinking of their attitude. Very much reminded me of berserkers..
And.. I am surprised.. Are you from the northlands, Zelphy ?

It's based on the Greek myth of the Greek's battle against Troy. And the Iliad does have some fragments of truth in it.
No, I'm from the states, I'm just a mythology geek. whee . ~T h e S h a d o w~ .

The Zelphyrian Queen It's based on the Greek myth of the Greek's battle against Troy. And the Iliad does have some fragments of truth in it. Er, 300 is (very, very) loosely based off of the Battle of Thermoplyae. It leaves out certain facts (there were lots of other Greeks in the army holding the pass, the Athenian navy was keeping the Persian fleet too occupied in battle to land soldiers behind the ground forces, and the prophecy was from Apollo's oracle at Delphi and said that either Leonidas would die or Sparta would fall) and bored me. And plus, seeing the Spartans in nothing but thongs and capes was kind of... Er... I guess they had the helmets because there aren't any muscles on the heads, and the shields because that lambda needs to go somewhere?

Ahh, I haven't seen it and from what I heard I assumed. x.x bad.
But the whole point of the movie is just all the special effects, and not many movies are historically accurate.
Ha x3 I've heard people say that they were dressed like that just to have girls see it whee Leave it to Hollywood to do that.
Oh, and did you hear that Iran thinks we want to go to war with them because of the movie? . ~T h e S h a d o w~ .

x3 After what our brilliant president's done with Iraq(and what his motives would be for going to Iran stare ) I think not. (Sorry if anyone likes him... ninja ) but with that incident with the Britains in their waters(The brilliant idiots refuse to admit that they were there, even though Iran says they'll let them go if they do x.x) it looks like we just might. . ~T h e S h a d o w~ .

Brilliant idiots for refusing to tell a lie? You do realize that them doing that would be sending a bad signal not only to Iran, but everybody wondering whether to align with them or our allies, right? If Iran can get the West to bend over backwards for them over just fifteen soldiers, how likely is the West to actually do anything if Iran starts acting up?
I think our limey friends across the Atlantic handled things quite well, actually. Not only did they get their sailors and marines back, but they let Iran embarrass themselves on the world stage by broadcasting footage of the soldiers on TV (bad, bad thing to do). And notice that Iran still hasn't come forth with that "proof" that the Britons were in their waters to begin with that they said they had.

Would it be a bad signal to save your people? Or would it be worse to sacrifice them just because of your pride and being worried about bad p.r.? I know most countries would say not to rock the boat, but I personally believe that that's a big problem with priorities, and it also sends the message that the leader's ego's are more important then the people they swore to protect. . ~T h e S h a d o w~ .

It's kind of like refusing to negotiate with terrorists. British sailors were not in Iranian waters, but Iran wants them to say they were anyway. Besides, I don't think that there were many people who expected anything other than Iran's eventual reaction: let them go as soon as you have a good excuse if Britain refuses to cave in. Iran knows they're in the wrong, and they're not going to push the envelope too far; trying and convicting them would definitely be pushing the envelope too far, so they decided to give the prisoners up as an "Easter gift" (i.e. "okay, whatever, we're done").
