So yesterday I dislocated my knee. I was home alone so nobody found me for two hours. I called for help pretty persistently for the first hour but nobody heard me or anyone who did just thought it was kids playing because sometimes you just get the kids yelling and mucking about around here. At least yelling helped pass the time.
Oprah was on tv but I wasn't all that interested in it but it gave me something to focus on when I felt like passing out. During the second hour the muscle spasm were getting more painful and made me scream so loud my ears were ringing. I don't know how anyone couldn't have heard that but I guess that just didn't.
I had fallen about one o'clock and my younger brother didn't get home until three. I just focused on being calm for him when he got home so I could get him to phone the ambulance for me without freaking out. He tried to phone mum and dad but couldn't reach them so he brought he went and got one of our neighbours from a few doors down.
Once the ambulance got here they gave me something and then my memory gets kind of patchy. I don't remember mum getting home or several more of our neighbours rocking up. I don't remember them trying to lift me the first time but mum says that I screamed like hell when they tried and they needed to call for another ambulance to come and help. Some of the bits I do remember I had this strange feeling of deja vu, like I had heard the things they were saying before.
The ambulance ride was painful - I could feel every little bump in the road. The ambo guy kept trying to keep me calm because they couldn't give me too much morphine because apparently I'm only small and it would knock me out and they wanted me awake. Personally I would have preferred unconsciousness at the time...
I was all right waiting the first half hour in the hospital waiting room but after awhile the pain got really bad. They made me breathe something in then which made me all numb and woozy and before I was even aware what was happening they popped the patella back into place and had my leg in a brace and wheeled me off to x-ray.
The next exciting bit in the adventure involves me having a bad reaction to the morphine so I was all itchy and couldn't keep down so much as the smallest sip of water. They had said at 6:30 that I could go home but didn't end up letting me go home until about midnight when my blood pressure was up to normal and my pulse rate was back down.
So, joy. That was my fun filled Tuesday to the best I can describe it like this. Sorry if my typing is shoddy. It's a bit awkward to get comfortable to type and I'm still kind of shaky. This morning I'm finding cuts on my hands from the plate I broke when I fell and I'm still have to get used to distributing my weight on my left leg and walking with the crutches so... fun...
As for discussion... having to wait a long time for medical help. Ever dislocated anything? Fun filled hospital visits. Ummm... yeah. You're all creative, I'm sure you'll find something. Don’t make the tired drugged up girl think. >_>

Become a diabetic and get DKA! There is no wait at all considering you'll die without quick medical attention and the fact there while they rehydrate you, you're brain could swell causing death. The joys of quick medical attention!
Yeah the most I've waited was around 5 and a half hours but that was because I was being assesed to see if I really needed to go into the psych ward. Talking to several people and waiting to get the okay and a security gard after all the questions. The shortest was about 3 hours total in and out because I cut my leg open with a saw. They most likley didn't want me to get an infection. Then for broken bones those have taken a while, although I'm not sure... they could have been over 5 hours but I wasn't keeping track.

Thanks, Aretoo. I have the brace on and I have some crutches but I'm not used to walking with them. I can kind of hobble around without them but I don't like going too far without them to support me.
Large_Inmate, I'm sure I would have had to wait quit a bit longer if it weren't for the fact that it had reached a stage where I couldn't stop screaming from the pain caused by the muscle spams.
Death by brain swelling... uh, yes... joy. Suddenly my predicament doesn't seem so bad in comparison. sweatdrop

Holy carp... That sounds absolutely hellish, Terra. I'm glad that you seem to be well and recovering but... man... it sounds painful.

Yeah I hate hospital waits. Sorry about my previous post, I'm not it too good of a mood today. sweatdrop It also reminds me of a guy in my class who detatched the muscles keeping his patela in place... Ouch. He still has to wear a brace today when he does physical activites.

Owwie..... *huggles Terra* I hope that you are doing much better now Terra...
I've never gotten a serious injury but i almost slit my wrist one time.... i was messing with a box cutter and i cut myself which looked like the Nike swoosh..... it was kinda funny seeing that i put a napkin full hand sanitizer on it and it stung like hell until it started to tingle and it tickled me....

I hope your leg heals well and everything! How long do you have to use the crutches?
I accompanied a friend of mine to a hospital when she broke her arm. There was a lot of waiting involved as I recall.... The longest I was in a hospital was when I got my fibroabnoma (spelling?) removed, I suppose. Since they put me under for it, it wasn't so bad. I slept for quite some time after I got home too....

I broke the end off of my fibula, below the ankle joint, 2 years ago, when I had a nasty sprain. I had a boot and crutches for several months... ugh.

Large_Inmate Sorry about my previous post, I'm not it too good of a mood today. sweatdrop Don't worry about it. I'm not exactly a cheery ray of sunshine myself today as you might guess. Waku, I'm not sure how long I have to be on the crutches for. I have to wait to see a specialist and that's not until next week sometime. It was really frustrating because I was so tired by the time that I got into the hospital bed that I just wanted to sleep but they made me sit up because of my reaction to the morphine and my blood pressure and stuff. @ Sebi: I know, I was pretty scared because no one could hear me. There were a few times where I had to try and stop myself from hyperventilating and started to get scared that my brother mightn't come straight home and I didn't think I had the strength left to stay awake to listen out for help for much longer. Thanks, Pny and Lin.

Was there anyway that you could get up on your other leg and make it to the phone?
Or was the pain unbearable.
Get well soon! You need (pun) to keep good health.
*decided to not use the "break a leg" idiom in a funny context including this one*

ugh sitting in emergency waiting room for hours and hours in excruciating unbearable pain... been there done that. By the time I get in to see a doctor, the gall bladder attack is usually over and they send me home.

Jaft Was there anyway that you could get up on your other leg and make it to the phone? Or was the pain unbearable. It was pretty unbearable. I couldn't move my lower body without the muscles starting to spam again. I thought about trying to get over to it but knew that if I did manage to drag myself across the room and around the dining table I never would have been able to stand to reach it. (The phone is up on the wall). Kalstolyn, sounds painful. Poor you, that would have been awful! gonk
