So, AnimeBoston is in a few weeks, and I'm going to be going as ANBU-style Sakura.

Well, today, one of my friends was helping me make an ANBU mask. We wanted to make it good and personalized, so it seemed like a good idea to use plaster.

For the most part, once it's sanded and painted and made pretty, it probably will be the best part of my costume.

But I still have plaster in my hair.

Anyone else have any good stories of weird/painful things they've done to make something good?

girls costumes are always such a pain...

never wear a costume involving fetish heels when the con decides to put the lounge/snack room on like the 15th floor when the elevators are offlimits...i did atleast 30 flights of stairs in those babies... and i havent been able to wear heels since...lol. AI's coming around again though so im sure ill have plenty more fun and exciting stories to share next fall...

When I cosplayed Sora I had to bind down my D sized breasts. I did an amazing job because I was totally flat chested, and was actually mistaken for a guy several times at the con, however by the end of the 10+ hours from the time I had bound them to the time the cosplay competition was starting, I was in massive pain. It felt like my chest was going to explode, but our group was next for our skit. I pulled through the pain and we did the skit. On the way back to my seat (I hadn't even sat down yet) I ripped off the ace bandage as fast as I could and was "floating free" for the rest of the night xd

I never want to bind my breasts ever again gonk

Nothing terrible like that for me, just the usual gripes about uncomfy shoes (with heels!) and wig issues (mostly pulling my own hair). I tend to make costumes that are at least reasonably comfortable. biggrin

jiraiya is in fact a funny cosplay

when i do cosplay i like to get everything correct so since jiraiya is my all time favorite character i thought i would put more effort in the costume i bought a karate suit and died it green (turned out great) now here's the fun part i needed fish net for the inner part of the costume, now i talk to my friend about fish net clothing she told me the well the 18 and up shops might have them........yes it was a lot of fun telling the people who work there why i needed it..........they looked at me weird when i said "cosplay" or jiraiya. until one girl said "we have them, but there only for women"............never go to 18 or up store and buy cosplay stuff

Ok I hate saying anything about my gender on gaia but I have to share this!
So I went to AX05 and my friends and I did Dir en Grey {jrock} for the pop shock masq and I had to duct tape my chest but the costume wouldn't allow me to wear anything underneath the tape.....so I was walking around in platform boots and full body vynle ON TOP of the duct tape and just befor I was gonna call it a night I was standing in front of the hotel smoking and I almost blacked out and fell in the gutter!! I had to have my friend walk me to the bathroom and hold the end of the tape while i spun around.... The end result was a very red sticky and bleeding me......
BUT WE WON BEST GROUP COSTUME!!!
so it was worth it!!!
now you have to promise not to spread it around that I'm a girl......it buggs me heheh I'm weird!

man, my kind of conversation! I have so much pain with my cosplays no matter what!
lets see:
For my Girl version Edward from FMA, my high heels and stockings were such a pain and instead of Edward's light red coat, I got a 10 pound coat that was more girly and that was so hot! >.<

For Sora, nothings wrong with the cosplay, but the keyblades and gummi ship are a pain. I have to carry the keyblades around and the gummi ship (a little bigger than the size of a go-cart) is just a pain to push! gonk

Every other cosplay/crossplay is either to hot or the hair killz me!
Plus, theres the thing that if you buy stuff, then you have more stuff to carry with your cosplay.

My sis stole my Light costume for the last Reactor. She bound her huge chest (and she's gonna kill me if she ever finds out I've told this story online) and though she wasn't flat-chested she couldn't breathe very well and she was in the video game chamber for most of the con.

I have knee problems. I have for the last four years and I probably always will. Just yesterday, I was at a tiny local convention dressed as Misa Amane. I wanted to wear comfortable shoes that wouldn't hurt my feet. I chose my ankle length boots with a slight heel...they'd never given me a problem. Until yesterday. When I got home, it felt like a bus had ran over my legs. My knees were in a lot of pain and I cringed every time I thought "I have to go upstairs/downstairs". They were hurting today at school, too. I'm used to it by now (this isn't the first time I've had knee pains for several days over a pair of boots), but I've never had those shoes do that to me...then again, I've never worn them for nine hours strait either.

I've never understood the point of going through pain intentionally for a costume though. Sure, it looks better, but cosplay should be fun without being painful.

Ugh, two words.

Hot. Glue.

My group last year coined the term 'Burney Glue' for it. And one of the girls in our group actually got hot glued into her costume. She still has scars.

My only major one was fainting from dehydration at a con. There was no real reason for me not to drink either, I'd just been caught up in the photos and whatnot. sweatdrop
