Will it be hard and whats real different about it besides the whole mouthpiece for clarinet and reed for oboe?

It will actually be pretty difficult since the oboe is hard to tune

Some of the fingerings are different but it's not that hard to learn. I play both instruments as well as piano. The hand position is not as relaxed as the clarinet, but it's not too bad. One other thing is the back pressure. Because of the double reed...everytime you go to take a breath you will have to let air out before you inhale again. It's not too hard to get used to. Good Luck!

Clarinet has a very lose embouchure while oboe has a much tighter one. Expect to have to build up stamina. Don't pinch the reed shut but it will take practice to get the right amount of pressure and keep it up. Oboe also takes a ton more air support. You'll need to build up lung capacity in order to be able to play 4 measure phrases so work on warm up exercises with long phrases. Fingerings aren't too hard to change and both are in treble clef so no worries there. Remember that oboe is in the key of C so no more transposing. Make sure that your oboe is in good shape. Nothing will hurt you more as a beginning oboe player than a horn that has leaks. If you aren't renting an oboe from a shop, make sure its been in for repair recently or at the very least ask an experienced oboe player to play test it for you and make sure everything works and it doesn't take more air than usual to play. That will go a long way to making your transition easier.

Congrats! I play oboe and it's been a great musical journey for me. This might be very hard to adjust to after playing clarinet. But the oboe is a very lovely instrument and has a terrific tone quality, a unique instrument from all the rest. But some things that are totally different is the face setting and embouchure, fingering, air pressure, and the vibrato is much different so avoid jaw vibrato. I dont have many tips, but im sure youll enjoy playing it. It;s a very hard insturment to play in the beginning but good luck. Long tones are a good idea and you should practice ur vibrato with a metronome. Differences: The shape is like a cone, there are WAY more fingerings, you have to have tons of air, and there'll be alot of pressure, and it KINDA sounds like a duck at first, but dont worry, a true mature oboe sound will develop after tons of practice

domokun it isnt going to be that hard because oboe is easier if you play the flute or clarinet before. I played a string instrument before but it wasnt that hard... just be careful of the reed... it breaks REALLY easily... domokun

Honestly, My oboe reed is nearly as hard as a my chanter reed for the bapipes. Not quite, but it takes blowing power.

well as said above?
Oboe is in C
Clarinet in Bflat
Oboe is insanely loud, smaller.
Very nice tone for both compared to brass.
Clarinet is very easy at first, but in altissimo registers, it gets hard.
Oboe is higher.
Clarinet's lowest note is a low E (i think 3 ledger lines below).
Oboe is more important in band than a clarinet.
^^
So, if you don't want to join the 20 some clarinets out there that all fight for the same chairs than join oboe. Sadly, I stopped trying during auditions, so it doesnt matter.

i played the oboe first but now i play both but the obesures are not the same. The oboe takes more air to blow through the little whole. and the fingerings are kind of a like but not realy... it should't be extremely hard though.

As long as you try your best and you're very dedicated and practice often, everything should be fine...but I guess I posted a little late, huh?

my sister's friend tried that and at first it was hard for her. then later on she just said you have to get used to a double reed once in a while. and practice a lot. the oboe is actually quite small than i expected before i saw it.
