Can somebody please tell me who zach is? I swear almost every forum i look in his name is mentioned and i have no idea who he is!!!! Please somebody explain it to me its annoying me soooo badly and i really want to know!!!! Is he in FFVII secretly somehow (besides using gameshark). Oh and could someone please tell me does FFVII advent children happen before or after FFVII. Please answer these questions for me im desperate to know!

Zach is the original owner of the buster sword.
He died, but he did save clouds life.

Zach is ze coolest! He was cloud's kinda sorta friend. He pretty much saved cloud! But died in the process D:

he is clouds good friend while in soldier, but after everything that happened and after Zacks death cloud took on zacks identity thinking that everything zack did he did. he was also aeris's old boyfriend.
and yeah advent children happend after FF7 the game.
did you play the game?

Check out my sticky in the Beginners Hall subforum about Cloud Strife. It has detailed explanation of who Zack is embedded in it up until the beginning of FFVII.
Also, the next FFVII installment, Crisis Core, which will be on the PSP, follows Zack as the main character before the original game.

As you could probably gather Zach (Zach Fair is his full name) was born in the town of Gongaga until he left to join Shinra's militant force SOLDIER. Years later, he went to Nibelheim to investigate the nearby Mako reactor which had been malfunctioning. However, during the investigation Sephiroth discovered the truth behind his origins and went on a rampage destroying the Nibelheim village. Zack eventually confronted Sephiroth in a duel only to be defeated easily. Following the battle both he and Cloud were used by Hojo as test specimens. However Zack managed to escape after four years and carried the incapacitated Cloud with him to freedom. While on the run Zack is shot to death by Shinra soldiers, while Cloud is left for dead just outside Midgar. Throughout most of the game, Cloud adopts Zack’s memories and character traits as his own.
Zack met Aerith five years before the game began, and was her first crush. It's possible that they may have been dating for as much as two years, however, the specifics of their relationship are still unknown.
Zack re-appears in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children mostly in flashbacks but later as a part of the lifestream alongside Aerith.

Anyways, Zack was Cloud's best friend who was a first class SOLDIER. Cloud never made it into SOLDIER himself, but always looked up to Sephiroth and to Zack as well.
Zack and Cloud tried escaping from ShinRa, where Zack was shot. Cloud was left for dead, but had enough strength to crawl back to Zack, in sort of a 'mourning' motion, he raises the buster sword to the sky, shaking in saddness/anger?.
After that, he 'adopts' Zacks' traits (as someone had said, ) etc.
Near the beginning of AC, Cloud is shown with the buster sword in said spot where Zack had died.
Also, in AC, Cloud says that "I wanted to live both our lives." referring to Zack.

all you need to know is that zack is a major factor in clouds life, he taught cloud alot of things! and he is cool!!!

Uh, no, Cloud was never in SOLDIER. He was an MP Shinra guard or whatever. SOLDIER is Shinra's elite class. Both Cloud and Zack were in Nibelheim together and yadda yadda you get the picture.
