I was just thinking about this for some reason, and I want to know how all the AGers found Gaia...then subsequently, the Anti-Sticky or Anti-Guild. Which one and why?
Ok, so I was on Neopets killing some time Christmas eve, 2003. I went to troll around the boards because Neopets boards suck. I wanted to discuss anime since I recently got into it...maybe since near the beginning of 2003. Also, I just got the internet back after being grounded. In any case, I started talking to this guy from the boards there on AIM, and he was talking about if I like forums and such, then I should check out Gaia. He got me all set up here (I think he just wanted to use the referral system here at the time).
I was a nub, made stupid AMC topics pre-WJ and Kansai modship days. Cynder flamed me and so did Skizz (I know they won't remember though xD). I didn't really like Skizz much at first, but then I started reading more around the AMC and found the Anti-Sticky (forgot what it was named at the time). So I wandered in, and the people in there seemed to be a fun group (like Pi). I started posting in there until it became my new hang out.
Then I guess the rest is history whee
Oh and post your first avi too!! 4laugh

I first heard about Gaia in July of 03. I was hanging out in some other forums (I think the Clanbob forums) talking to Mistress Cowkitty, when she mentioned Gaia and gave me one of those old reccomendation links and mentioned that they had a big Anime/Manga forum. So I came and liked what I saw. I had short stints in ED, GD, and a few other boards, but they seemed to consist of various cults of personality more that I like to get involved with... Chatterbox was so full of "Bump til a million pages" and cyber-sleepovers that I didn't bother posting. I'm not savvy enough for tech... so I mostly just kept posting in the AMC. I ran into WJ, Kansai, Kinumi, Cynder, JayP, Mala, Baku, and a few others in the AMC and started traveling in that pack. I know I yelled at more than a few of you delightful spam-monkies in that time... Then, one day I saw a topic by Baku that needed bumping. It first started off with simple "Bump, because this needs it", but eventually grew into "Hello Kansai, how are you doing today-bump" and then finally into genuine conversation with my fellow bumpers interspersed with debates in defense of the topic. From there? History. First Avvie: It took a week or two to put it together, but this is the first avvie I considered complete.

February 2004. I saw an ad for Gaia in the back of a Street Fighter comic. I was intrigued by the avvies and I swear I saw one that looked like it had pitch black skin, it might have even been Mala. Anyway, I wanted to check it out and hoped I'd be able to approximate a drow with the avatars because I was into them at the time, but didn't get around to it until my plans to go see Kill Bill Volume One on opening night fell through and I had nothing to do. So I typed "http://www.go-gaia.com" into my browser window and registered my first account, Battousai Oni.
Originally I bummed around Barton doing some light rping to get my feet until I met my now ex-fiancee. For whatever reason I started branching out around the site after that but I skipped over AMC main for the Comic Discussion forum and started running with the regs, which is where I met White Joker, Grendel and Kyle. I followed Kyle and Gren into AMC main to go pwn sum noobs. Old school first incarnation Superman v Goku, even. Thus I met Phoe, Orlan Drake, Hitokage, Zero, and the other regs of that thread. Then I stumbled onto the Anti-Sticky when Celaeno and Maiadorn used to go on expeditions into the AMC and thus I met Streamjumper and 3.14.
Gator and Phoe have always been my tie to the AG, but I never really joined in here until I found myself in a really rough place and Streamjumper suggested I come down here. I think it's been the smartest move I've made since joining the site. I've been a reg in CD, AMC, Electronica/Industrial, and ED-P. I've been a member of many guilds and movements, some of them quite prominent in their home forums. Not a one holds a candle to the AG.

I met Aki in 04 and she got me to join. I did and messed around on the site for a little while. I got bored of it after a while, and stopped visiting the site regulary for a good two years. Then in late Spring of 06 she convinced me to start being active again and I was invited to the AG. Probably wouldn't have stuck around, if it weren't for this guild.

If tektek ever stops being lame, I'll post my original avatar, as best I remember.
I joined Gaia on a whim, I used to frequent a Kentucky DDR website back when I freestyled, and I saw a link in the 'internet' section. I figured I'd play around for a few days and then quit. That was in January 04.
One thing you have to understand about my early days on Gaia, I was jaded as all ********. In the past two year's I'd been dumped on by three or four different girls. Granted, two were LDR's, but again, I wasn't the man I am now, I was shy, reserved, and got ******** sore when two girls I was dating before dropped me because I was 'nice'.
So, I became a b*****d. I found the A/M/C and flamed the hell out of it. My first or second night, I met Manji and Aere in an 'I hate anime, na na na na naaah' thread. The OP got torn into so bad by the three of us and two others that we got him to admit that he did in fact like Initial D. We kind of split up after that first night, but one time or another we'd all find our way to the same thread and flame the hell out of a troll.
I had about a month long stint as the ringleader of an Inuyasha fan-hater's group, and rarely ever payed attention to the Anti-Sticky, but I knew it was there. It was when I started lurking there one night after getting pissed at all the spam that I realized the group was pretty cool. So I'd make occasional run ins and post some spam or the other. I officially joined the ranks around the 1000 page mark.
The AS helped me straighten out a lot of things in my life just by being there. I disbanded the group and my chance for Gaia infamy (though a number of'em would go join Orlan afterwards), and turned my attentions to being more helpful than hurtful and trying to fix Main like that. It sure as hell didn't work, but the AS definetly helped me out of a rough spot, and has continued to, even by just being what it is. A big space of spam. With the heart and soul of a warrior.

Uhm. Well. It was all Aki. We were chatting about RP one night and then she mentioned something about Gaia and AG. I joined Gaia, and kinda bummed around, then one night.. after more RP venting and ranting she invited me into the AG chat where a potential AG RP was being created. I mostly talked to her, Stream and Ed. I sent my application to join AG in during the chat and I was a member then. Actually if I hadn't joined AG i would never have gone into the AMC after what I first saw of it. And I don't really plan on losing this avvie.. I really like Nurses...

CB told me about it. whee I tried to join around the time when the one server they had crashed. The next day, the site was up and I joined at "3.1415926". Shortly after I realized that nobody had the name "3.14" so I made a new account. I started in the AMC, posting in "What is your favorite Anime?" threads. [There was no stickies at the time.] I saw the Baku thread was were all of the 'cool' kids posted-- so I thought I would post there too to make friends.

I was reading one of Josh Lesnick's comics when he posted an avi edit (I think it was from Girly, or maybe the one he did after it) and a link to the site. I immediately fell in love with the avi system, and soon had a fairly decent representation of myself in avi form (I still have the image somewhere I think, I'll dig for it first before I tektek it). I had been into anime for a while thanks to toonami, but never had anyone to discuss it with, and one of my first posts was in the hell thread.
From there I went surfing around the site, and eventually drummed up a conversation with Kinumi, who turned me around. I was just one of the random spammers before Kinumi, and thanks to her I started to actually -think- about my posts, and we started hanging out in Baku's thread. Eventually Kinumi and I thought we should gather the actual thinkers of the AMC together and group up, and possibly act in a similar fashion to the way helpers are now. The group was called WANDN ("We Ain't No Damn N00btaku"). We started making thoughful posts, but they were quickly lost in the spam of the site. We eventually created the AG once the guild forum was nice and stable, and we got quite a few members together. Kinumi left not long after that, with fond farewells from all.
A while later, WANDN sort of blew up, and those of us with more level heads than others reformed the Anti-Guild, which is our core group that we all see today. I've left a couple of times, but I love you guys like family, and want to see how you're doing. Then suddenly I'm like that cousin you love to hang out with, but hate to live with. What you don't know is that the cousin wants to stop bothering you, but can't bring himself to leave again, but eventually does anyway! xd
And so, I have returned once more... hopefully the house is big enough now for all of us. 3nodding
Stream Edit: Cynder, you're confusing the AG with WANDN again. Cyn Edit: Acceptable fix? sweatdrop

It was late September 2003. I had an oekaki board as part of my site and as was my habit, I checked out how much bandwidth I had used. For some reason, one of my pictures on the oekaki had been linked to this site called "go-gaia". But whenever I clicked on it, it only brought me to the front page of the art arena and there was always a different picture on there.
I decided to b***h out the owner of this horrendous site for stealing my pic and shoving it in their huge a** rotating collection of obviously all stolen fanart that was devouring my bandwidth. scream But to find someone to yell at, I had to join. mad So I did. And I yelled at a mod. Don't ask me which, I really don't remember. I just remember it being a mod from the art forum. sweatdrop
Fast forward to the middle of October. Mala, xane, Yaten, Gundam Nook, and a bunch of other #anime-cel people were yapping as per usual and Yaten said we should join Gaia. Well, lucky me, I already had an account (in peasant clothes of course). There were NO threads in the a/m/c about anime cels, so Keys made a thread and we ALL hung in there. xd Mala wandered off to the anti-sticky, but one day out of boredom, we decided to invade the anti-sticky just to pester Mala.
Sadly, the original "Anime Cels, Anyone?" thread was eaten by the archiver and the 2nd died after we made the Anime Cel guild (which is pretty much also dead now).
Trebbu needs to figure out his password and give me his AFK. And Yaten just needs to come back. scream emo

Febuary 04, I was pretty decent friends with Megan, aka Pi and she always talked about Gaia and how you crazy AS kids would have naked parties and such. At the time, I was pretty stupid, I copied most of what my friends did so I purposefuly made comments on how inuyasha was a pokemon to get your attention. I learned that from Megan too... ninja When I first joined, I frequented fighter discussion and tried to make myself there....but they were even bigger idiots than I was. My first Avy: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/XcireX/eric.jpglol, closest thing I could find.

In early Jan. 2004, my sister and her best friend at the time became addicted to Gaia who knows how. Of course by February I'd joined in the fun, and being the big fat NERD I am immediately ravaged through the Video Game forums and AMC. I almost instantly gravitated towards the Anti-Sticky, seeing as I am also a big fat cynic who enjoys shenanigans and all the tomfoolery associated with Anti-ness as much as the rest of us, but I think it was a few weeks before I was a "regular." My first avi was something like this:

Most of my friends during High School hung out at a certain table. I started hearing talk about Gaia long before I joined it. Eventually, one convinced me to join by trying to rope me into a Hellsing RP on the site, with original characters. I joined and started playing that as well as a few other RPs. Thus, my first few months were spent not in the AMC (though I did go in there from time to time), but Barton town. After some time (and a good number of RPs dying out from lack of interest), I started hanging out much more in the AMC and saw this weird little thread called the "Anti-sticky." I recognized a few useernames from one time I helped out in "dealing with" a troll, so I decided to start hanging out in there. I felt like a new person for a while, but eventually got into the swing of things. Incidentally, that's also around when I started getting enough items to make avatars I considered cool, but others thought were hideous. Coincidence? I don't remember my first avatar, but I think it was something like this...
