Everything was a zip of gold, streaks across his vision. He, himself, was a green blur across the dry savannah. Fenris moved his legs as fast as he could, appealing to the cheetah that coursed through his veins. The young cub was determined not to become as deformed as his cheetah-father, who couldn't even begin to keep up with Fen.
The cub altered his course and headed even farther away from home, knowing that his mother wouldn't like what he was doing. He didn't care much, though, and ran until he started to tire, not from his muscles, but from the heat. He sighed as he plopped his small body in the shade of a large acacia tree.

The gray cub had been looking for his sister they had been split and he had lost his mother and for the first time in his life he felt rather lost and alone. He didn't like curling up to sleep without Zuri and his mother beside him. He let out a soft sigh and continued to walk, he wanted to find somewhere to rest and the acacia tree looked like a nice spot to rest.
As he reached the tree he collapsed noticing the strange looking cub there he sat up again ready to move away.
"Sorry I didn't know anyone was here." He stood up again and got ready to leave.

"It's ok," Fenris said. He'd never seen such a creature as the one that stood before him. He looked similar to Fenris' brothers, but not quite the same- something was different. "You don't have to go anywhere, this ain't my tree." He said in a friendly way. He didn't want whatever it was to go away just because he was there! "My name's Fenris, Fen for short," Fenris introduced, rising to his feet. "What's your name?" He asked, tilting his head a little too much. His tail twitched behind him.

Nuku was grateful and sat back down smiling, rest was good.
"I am Nuku, it is nice to meet you Fen." He looked at him again curiously and couldn't hold the question back any longer.
"What are you?" He wanted to know, he had only seen lion cubs and never anything as odd looking as Fen but then it dawned on Nuku that he possibly looked just as odd to him.

"Mommy calls me a 'cheeton.'" Fenris said, thinking back. "She says I'm because her and dad are different than one another, so my brothers and I are different too," He finished, returning his gaze to the lion sitting in front of him. "All I know is that I can run fast, but mom says I'm not as fast as a cheetah yet."
"How about yourself, what are you?" Fenris asked Nuku, sitting back down. He'd never seen a pure lion cub before. In fact, the only lion he'd met was his mom- who was very different than a male, let alone a cub.

"Whats a cheeton?" Even though he was looking at one it still didn't make too much sense to him just because he had never heard of a cheeton before but he had heard of cheetahs and leopards and lions.
"I am a lion!" He made himself look a little bigger and held his head high to show how proud he was to be a lion. He wondered though what it would be like to something else.

"You've never seen one before me?" Fenris asked. He always imagined there were lots of other cheetons out there, just as many as there were other species. Was his family it? Were they the only cheetons? He didn't want to be a rarity!
Either way, Fen decided this would be a good opportunity to get to know a lion. He seemed bigger, and his legs were more... sturdy. Fenris too was strong, but he had the element of speed. He figured he wasn't as strong as Nuku here, but he was probably stronger than a cheetah, and faster than a lion. That must mean he got the best of both worlds? He'd have to ask his mom later what exactly he was.
"My dad's a cheetah, and my mom's a lioness, so I guess I'm a mix." Fenris said, holding his head up, knowing he could probably beat Nuku at a race if nothing else.

He could probably beat Nuku at a lot more then a race as the grey lion wasn't much of a competitive creature. He was happier being traditional, laying around and letting the world do things for you!
"Your parents are different species? I never heard of such a thing." He looked at the cheeton again and then shook his head. "Well you exist so it must be possible. Where are your parents?" Nuku was curious, he had got lost so had this strange creature got lost too?

Fenris grew a bit worried with this news... It was news to him. Cheetons were different? Even non-existant? His family was it? Grave information to the cub indeed, but he'd hide it away.
"My parents are somewhere over there. Far over there," He said, making a quick gesture to the land behind him. He had run out here, and he'd gone for as long as he could in this heat, at top "cruising" speed. He wondered exactly how far away they were?

Nuku looked confused, "Why are you so far away from them?"
Nuku loved his family and it's the worst thing ever to be away from them. He loved his mother and sister and felt so lost without them.
"I miss my family..."

"I dunno..." Fenris answered. "I guess because none of them wanted to come running with me?" He thought for a moment, unsure about how to react to the missing his family comment.
"Why, where's your family?" He asked finally, swishing his tail behind him. They'd still be there when he got back, or so Fenris thought. He was too young to know of the horrors one could face, such as the death of an entire family by attack. He'd never dealt with death- and this is part of why he was so calm away from his family.

Nuku looked at the floor and sighed.
"My sister Zuri, she wandered off and got lost me and mother went to find her but somehow I got lost too and I don't know where either of them are now." He sighed and laid his head on his paws, his small mane flopping over his face. He tried to shake it away but like all hair it wanted to be annoying.

"Oh," Fenris said. "What do they look like?" Maybe he could think back to everyone he'd met recently. "I might have seen them around somewhere," He said. He left out how he couldn't think of one that looked like Nuku. Although, Fen had met a lot of different people in his wanderings, odds were (to him) that he'd met at least one of them.

Nuku smiled at his question, maybe this odd creature had seen them?
"Zuri looks like me, well kind of, she doesn't have my markings or the golden colour but she is grey! Mother is the same colour as the golden colour on my legs with bits of brown on her!" He smiled still, hoping that he would have seen them. Nuku missed his family so much.

Fenris thought hard to see if he had met anyone recently that matched the description... However he drew a blank. "I don't think I've met them before..." Fenris said regrettably, casting his eyes downward. "If I happen to see one of them, I'll let them know where you are." He said, hoping he'd remember the descriptions.
