The bass I first learned on was a mid-70's Yamaha Fender rip-off I borrowed from one of my friends, horrible action, sounded terrible, and the headstock had broken off at some point so it was nailed back on. The first bass I owned was an Ibanez GSR100 that I've still got. Repainted it, custom pickguard on it now, some Seymor-Duncan Quarter-Pounders, and a Schaller bridge on it. The damn thing growls.

Monterey Fender Rip-off Jazz Bass
it was fabulous, my bass teacher liked it better than his bass, and would make me play his during lessons, about 5 lessons i played an American Fender... i liked it, so i'm prob gonna stick eith Fender, the Jaguars, cos they look better (in my opinion) and have a crazy tone control
i still love my Monterey to bits, i've dropped it a few times, (cos the damn thing weighs like 20 pounds) but it sounds better than when i started, only thing i'd do with it is Refret and probably stick Dual Humbuckers in there, i want it to growl! plus it would look so cool changing basses on stage with some chunky Humbuckers, with a Stainded Maple Yellow body... awesome
but i need money first

My first to have was a Fender Mexican P-Bass. The neck had set in the sun way too much and was horrible, the action sucked, and it was nicked in quite a few places.
I nicknamed her "The Green-Eyed monster" due to her color.
My first real bass was an 4-string OLP.

Five string Squire MB-5 (dual J pickups), I upgraded into a Rickenbacker which I love so much.
Surprisingly I still play the squire just about everytime I jam with people, as due to the massive tone differences in the two basses it is still a very useful weapon in my arsonal. The B string also makes it very helpful in a lot of metal when I don't feel like downtuning.

My first bass is a Hartke SB-15 ... one of those bass pack ones. I love it even though is a relatively cheap bass.
I usually use it for writing or goofing around, but it's been recently decomissioned... now i gotta buy new pickups ... maybe i'll give it a new paintjob while i'm upgrading it! biggrin

~.~My visions obscured by the shining lights of the starry sky Feeling as though I've been out of it for weeks now As I stumble and tumble my way off the train coming from nowhere Floating down to the soil below, my feet firmly touch the grass~.~
Silvertone Revolver, I got for Christmas. Tis my only bass, and probably my only one for a long long time. ~.~Clouds part and merge together around the snow capped mountain tops Gently caressing them with their soft and delicate forms I lay myself down on the grass to ponder about this Dream Land Resting my eyes I can hear the train returning to me, taking me back.~.~

Haha, mine was an Ibanez Gio. xd Cheap bass. Got it for like $120on eBay new, but it was a good beginner bass and had a relativly clear sound. I still play it but not as much, b/c I've got other axes. but i still love my Ibanez Gio. ^^
