The little girl trotted carefully through the edge of the underbrush. She'd been getting more and more bold about running alone without her mother or sister, and was rather enjoying her new found independence. As the days grew warmer, the white and red furred female had continued to explore the woods surrounding her den. Oh, sure, she understood that her mother was never far out of sight - not unless she truly had to be! But as much as the femme adored her mother and sister, that couldn't replace her natural curiousity.

What was out of her mothers reach? What mysteries and wonders awaited beyond the next turn, the undiscovered joys that were just waiting to be stumbled upon? What had called her father away from the family. . . .?

Obviously it had to be something great.

Shaking off the thoughts, certain that Eros had merely gone on a long walk and been delayed, Amarii merrily chased at a passing butterfly. She danced behind the insect, nipping at it and purposely missing. She wasn't hungry, but it was a good game! Red tail wagging joyously, she leapt and chased as far as she dared.

The edge of her dens territory was a good three hundred feet behind her; and everday, that distance grew a little more. Watching the butterfly wander far out of reach, Amarii heaved a little sigh, ears twitching as she focused on her mothers location.

Ravii's scent was still heavy amongst the surrounding woods, and a warning woof told her where her faithful guardian waited. She was with Mayrii, much closer to the actual den.

Well. . . so much for making a quick escape. But, such was life, wasn't it? The white and red one didn't mind - she could have just as much fun on the dens border without running far in to the unknown.

Dropping to her side, the puppy suddenly rolled wildly on her back, nipping and pawing at an upturned root, back legs kicking at an imaginary playmate. Maybe she should call Mayrii, and try to get her sister to come and play. . . .

And the root was beginning to get boring. Still, it was better than nothing! Chewing on the branch, her white fur soiled from the dirt and moss she'd played in, Amarii let her imagination run free.

It wasn't a root but a giant deer! And she, Amarii, had killed it.

Off white oversized paws, for an average sized femme pup, clumsly but silently moved from the rang of her sleeping guardian. Patches was a sleep and her only family, along with the age group she recalled to respect from before the dark pup's weening age.

Alina wasn't moving far from the radius around the elder, atleast at first. The scent of others tickled her black nose, the carmel eyes darted around the trees that curled around her. Dark chocolate ears perked forward to concentrate on finding the location of the other wolf's scent. The carmel eyes turned into dangerous slits as the growing pup concentrated closer.

The sound of growling and something that was fainter danced into the femme's ears. Just as suddenly as the elder, Alina was moving like an arrow. Tail spinning behind her to help with balance as she, amazingly, didn't fly into the mud with a mistaken step.

The trees moved to expose a white and pink pup, about Alina's age, pulling at an upturned root. Not having any sibilings the dark chocolate pup with the wierd characters on her side cocked an inquiring brow at the other. "What are you doing?" she didn't know this pup, their family, or anything and, truthfully, Alina didn't care. Though, her respectiful tone was left back with her sleeping 'grandfather', that didn't stop Alina from sounding like she demanded an answer.

Intent on her strubble with her fake 'prey', red and white fur rolled over the root, snarling in her throat and kicking at it with her back legs. She nipped and bit at it, pretending to avoid the imaginary bucking hooves - but, in her mind, as a strong Alpha she would one day become, she could do no wrong and the caribou was quickly taken down.

So enthralled in her game, jaw clinging tight to the jugular of her 'prey', Amarii knew not of Alina's approach. It was only when a voice broke through her thoughts that the little pup realized she wasn't alone.

Root stuck in her mouth, two gold eyes quickly jerked from her imaginary caribou, to that of a caramel eyed, brown furred pup. Who was she. . .? Amarii had never met another wolf before, she knew only her mother, sister and father. They were a family made up of bright colours - pinks, reds, whites, purples and creams. So, when she studied the brown furred pup, she couldn't help but be starteled. Such a strange colour for a wolf . . . and where were all those symbols on her side??

Crazy.

Game forgotten, she rolled to her paws and shook any excess dirt off her fur. "I'm playing, a'course," she explained patiently, tilting her head at Alina. "Don't you know how?"

It was pretty obvious, in her humble opinion, that wrestling with a root could only be a game. It wasn't as if she were really trying to eat it, but maybe the funny coloured female didn't know any better. A shame, really - could there be puppies out there that didn't know the joy of games? Poor thing, she thought sadly. Maybe she should teach her. . .

Shaking out her coat proudly, Amarii wasn't bothered by this new puppies demanding nature. Yet.

"Who are you?" She asked with just about as much attitude and pride. Her voice was friendly though, and her golden eyes glowed bright with mischief. This was a potential playmate! Maybe they could be friends? Besides Mayrii, Amarii knew none.

Alina's ears perked up and then wilted in slight confusion at the words spoken from the dirty pink and white wolf. It was weird for her to look at the bright colored female, maybe because the other pup reminded her of one of those flower things that grew out of the ground.

"Play?" the word felt wierd on her tongue. Should she know what this word was? Maybe if Alina actually knew her family some words wouldn't sting her ears quiet so strangly. The carmel eyes blinked slightly and then slid shut as dirt flew up into the air off of Amarii's coat.

"Honestly, I've never heard the word." Then her mind tried to connect what the other said with maybe something she could compare it with. The only thing she could think of with a root is to sharpen the canines. Heard shook with struggled thoughts.

When the other asked for her name, Alina looked back to the red, pink, and white face before her. "Alina. What about yourself?" she asked trying to mimic the softier tone the Amarii used. It wasn't a normal respectful tone she recognized, but not the same harshness of cold bitterness Alina had first spoken. Though her eyes narrowed slightly with inner thoughts.

She'd never heard of the word??? Amarii stared at the brown wolf, completely and utterly shocked. Her question would have been sarcastic (had she known what sarcasm was) and she honestly expected Alina that it was all a joke. Never would the petite femme had guessed that she truly didn't understand how to play!

Golden eyes wide, though there was no mockery or hostility behind them, she quickly trotted closer to the other female. She sniffed at her, attempting to figure out where she'd been all her life to not know how to play games. "You really don't know how?" The femme was absolutely horrified. "It's . . it's play! Like playing games, and running around, and having fun."

Amarii thought it was safe to assume that the strange furred wolf didn't know the first thing about having fun. What a shame! Mommy had never told her about wolves that didn't play games or know about fun. Well, Amarii had to help this new one! She couldn't just ignore Alina's need to be introduced to all the fun things in the world.

Bright red tail wagged behind her, and she gave Alina a radiant smile. "I'm Amarii," she spoke her name with pride. It was such a pretty name and she loved introducing herself. Well, sure, this was the first time she'd ever introduced herself to someone but it was fun to say her name. Ravii and Mayrii already knew her name, so she never had to tell them it.

"Come on, let's play. I'll show you how, it's not hard," she suggested, sliding down on her forepaws, rump stuck up high in the air as her tail wagged. White muzzle looked up hopefully at Alina, golden eyes dancing with radiant sunshine. Amarii hadn't ever played with another wolf before besides her small family. This would be absolutely fantastic! And if Alina didn't know how to, then this would be a perfect oppurtunity.

Alina watched the other's face carefully. The stare she recieved looked to have been of horror or something that was honestly hopeing for a random statement like, Oh nevermind I know exactly what your talking about. However Alina didn't so she just blinked a couple times before slightly squinting her eyes.

But when the Amarii's golden eyes shot wide open, Alina lifted her head up a bit more and widened her own eyes in expectation. Then shock when the brightly colored wolf started to sniff her, "I'm for real about the statement. I know how to hunt, but play. The word is completely foreign to my ears." Alina looked at Amarii with sincere eyes that even a stranger could take as honest and truthful.

Though the dark femme's ears twitched when the light and bright pup before her spoke about running, "Oh, running for pleasure is play then...right?" Her bitter tone was replaced with something more skeptical and intrigued. This was something that reminded her of asking Patches about his two-leggers from all that time back.

For once since her abandonment, Alina felt hatred towards her unknown parents. Then furry burned in her carmel eyes at the dark thoughts of never knowing things that even oddly bright colored pups seemed to know. She down casted her eye momentarly not really wanting to showcase the inner turmoil going through her mind to this new wolf. Alina's tail was frozen stiff behind her, her face set in stone showing nothing but what was revealed in her eyes.

Something however brought her attention from her lone and lost whimpering memories to the oddly crouched down femme before her. Cocking her head to the side Alina then looked over her shoulder and threw her ears foreward, did this pup see a squirrel or rabbit that her distracted ears didn't hear? Wait this pup had just introduced herself as Amarii and said something else before taking that weird couching pose.

Something else about that play word. That much she was positive about, at that moment the words stuck into her mind. "Come on, let's play. I'll show you how, it's not hard," chimed Amarii's words inside Alina's head.

"And how is playing so easily shown?" the dark furred femme questioned with another raised brow at this enthused giddy animal looking up at her from the ground with golden eyes. Maybe the time spent with such an emotionless elder had also frozen her natural instincts as a pup.

Amarii stared up at the brown wolf, waiting for a reply. She studied her every move, waiting to see whether or idea would be accepted or rejected - would her offer to play be shot down? Oh, how Amarii hoped it wouldn't! This was her first (and possibly only) chance to make a new friend. Besides, every wolf needed to know how to play games and have fun. The red and white furred female was just the wolf to teach it!

Tail wagging, she was too little to really understand the moments tension in the air. She didn't realize the struggle little Alina was going through, she was too naive to know that some puppies didn't have families or packs. With age she'd understand body language, and perhaps would question Alina's expressions and body language.

But for now, a drooped head, a foreign expression, and Amarii thought nothing of it. Red tassle wagging behind her, she shifted from her paws excitedly, anxious to begin. "Running is kind of like playing, but running with another wolf or chasing them is even better! Chases usually turn in to wrestling, though, but that's pretty fun too!" The golden eyed girl explained with delight.

She was going to make an excellent teacher.

"The easiest way to learn how to play is to just do it!" And with that, she leaped up and playfully nipped at the brown wolfs ear and cheek. The pup refrained from latching on to anything, but she danced around Alina in a circle, leaping away, only to jump back in an attempt to provoke her to play. "We'll run first," Amarii finally decided, not wanting to scare Alina from such games. "Chase me! Try to catch me if you can!"

A loud bark, followed by a giggle, and she took off. Glancing behind her shoulder, she was prepared to stop if Alina didn't take the bait. But oh, how Amarii hoped she would!

Alina's eyes searched the others her facade didn't change at all. Though her thoughts questioned exactly what the femme in front of her actually was. Are there other wolves like Amarii somewhere? she was pondering.

"What kind of wolf are you?" Off-white tipped tail didn't wag at the question, but then again Alina wasn't growling the question. It was more of an inquiry of the other. Ignoring the momentarly questioning look, that she didn't know how to interpret just yet, she then added quickly though, "not to be rude." Alina tried to clarify but her face wasn't giving way to show the emotion desired.

But before her next question was answered her statement was refined. "So, the freedom I feel with running is a degree of your 'play'." The rest of Amarii's description reminded this darked furred female of a hunt, but the other wasn't to be killed. Something clicked in her mind and she made a sudden 'Oh' silently on her different colored maw.

"Your 'play' is like practice for honing the skills to hunt." Alina muttered softly to herself. A small misshappened puzzle was coming together in her mind. Her two-toned tail twitched a little to either side with an odd feeling emotion started to erupt forward in Alina's being.

Just as suddenly as the old unfamilar emotion come back, the tri-colored femme attacked her ears and cheek. Before Alina registered what she, herself, was doing, instinctivly her ears pinned back to her skull and Alina was crouching low. Amarii had caught her off guard and Alina soft eyes peered out from an unreadable face, besides the fact her ears were pinned back.

No sound echoed out of the dark pup's throat in warning, when Amarii barked loudly and made a funny noise follow. The two-toned tail was stiff and slightly bristled behind the startled pup. Shallow breaths came in and out of the flared black nose on the off-white maw. Then judging eyes quickly analysised the other's face. No hostility was shown from her opponent as her golden eyes peered back with excitement.

At the moment, her own words echoed into her mind, 'practice for honing the skills to hunt'. The dark chocolate ears loosened on top of her skull. Alina closed her eyes to calm herself back down, then in her moment of finding her center, a debate started in her mind.

Amarii hadn't known what to say when questioned about her species. What was Amarii? She was a wolf puppy, just like Alina! Just becaues they were coloured different, and varied in size, that didn't make her different. They were one in the same, really - just a pair of puppies trying to learn the art of play.

Did Amarii really look that strange? She had much lighter fur than Alina, but that didn't change anything else. Or so the young femme had imagined. Maybe she was wrong in those thoughts . . .

She'd ask Ravii about it later.

Staring back at Alina, tail tip wagging furiously behind her, the pup hopped anxiously from foot to foot. Why wasn't the brown wolf running after her? Had she upset her in some way? Whine escaping her throat, she studied the Hershey pup with interest. She didn't look upset, though her ears were slightly back - she'd also crouched to the ground as soon as she'd initiated the game!

Maybe this wasn't going to be as easy as she'd first expected.

"Yeah, it's like hunting, but a lot more fun!" Eating bugs could be such a chore sometimes! Red and white fur much preferred chasing her Mayrii than she did the local ladybugs and dragonflys. "Come on - hunt me!"

Trotting back towards Alina, she gave a playful growl in her throat, the fur bristling around her neck. Her golden gaze was anything but agressive, and a little giggle broke through her snarl. "Or would you rather be the prey?"

Smacking her paws against the ground, again, she dipped in to a playbow. "It's really fun, and I won't hurt you - promise!" Amarii was shocked she had to actually beg this female to break down in to a game. Play was NEVER supposed to be this difficult. Whatever was wrong with Alina?

PostPosted: Mon Apr 09, 2007 4:04 pm

Alina opened her eyes to watch the other femme's face ponder at her uncalled for comment... well question. Along with the look of confusion, the dark wolf pup felt a sudden urge to clarify the wording. "I didn't mean to insult you, Amarii. It's just... I'm not use to interacting with others my age."

Her words were true and the dark pup had came to a verdict before opening her carmel eyes. She would try this 'play' it may actually bring her back to a degree a young pup should be at. Not so up-tight as she was, though not exactly all of her fault. The bi-colored elder was her teacher and she was learning important survival things from him.

Alina watched the pink and white femme talk. When the other playfully growled and bristled the fur around her neck. Alina's off-white tipped dark tail began to wag with a new verocity and her maw even broke out into a rare light-hearted smile.

Instead of repling to the light pup before her, Alina sprung forward using her back leg muscles to propell herself through the air. A wierd sound echoed out of the dark pup's throat, she didn't recognize it at all, but later she would find out is was a giggle, as her white paws flew towards Amarii.

The carmel eyes were bright and displayed her actual age well. She tackle the light pup to the ground and then possibly take off running into the brush around them. Was that the way the game was played? she thought to herself.

"I'm not insulted, it's all right," Amarii reassured, flashing Alina a bright and happy smile. She didn't want her new friend to think she were upset! Oh no, she didn't want that at all! "I'm not use to interacting with anyone besides Mom and Mayrii," she acknowledged, shrugging her petite white shoulders. "But I'm excited," she added, tail wagging and her body dipping into yet another bow.

Oh, even if Alina didn't know how to play, she was sure they'd have a good time. Even just talking about games, pretending to go through the motions, it excited the young one. Alina was something new, something different - as foriegn as the strange symbols that stained her side. Oh, she hoped her mother could see them! And her sister too! A new friend. . . it would be fantastic!

Before her mind was able to finish her pleasant thoughts, the female suddenly noticed a giggling wolf springing at her! Yipping in surprise, red paws scrambeled desperately at the earth beneath them. She tried to dodge out of the way, but wasn't fast enough. The brown wolf tackeled her, and Amarii did her best to squirm underneath the new weight.

A giggle erupted from the golden eyed puppy, and she used her back paws to kick at Alina in an attempt to get her off. She nipped at her cheek and paws, using her own weight to try to push Alina off. Strangely enough, this tussle (at least for Amarii) was fun! It got the adrenaline racing, the heart pounding. . . .

A mock-growl. Alina would get a taste of her own tussle. . . as soon as Amarii figured out how to get out from underneath her. n_n
PostPosted: Thu Apr 12, 2007 9:04 pm

The dark chocolate and white tipped flag spinned on its own accord. Having heard the words from Amarii had lightened the lone pup's heart. Even being kicked in the face and the side didn't effect the resufacing expressions.

Rolling onto a wierdly lettered side, Alina nipped at the wildly kicking femme that was mockingly growling. With her socked white feet in the air the dark femme nipped at a white and pink ear before rolling off to the side.

Eyes wild with a bubbling emotion, that was similar to the adrenaline that Alina felt flow through her viens in a hunt, the oddily figure dark femme yipped happlily at Amarii. Ears up in anticapation of the other, suddenly shifted back as Alina took off with clumsy feet tossing up a little wet dirt.

"Catch me, if you can that is," her voice as light as her carmel eyes as she provoked the other into a chase. Dark ears trained to hear the sound of pursuiting paws behind her. This activity was new to the dark femme, but for some reason some of the unknown actions were coming naturally to her.

Amarii felt bliss. Sure, the games were no different then she played with her mother or Mayrii and yet . . . . and yet that wasn't right at all! It was new because it was someone new! She didn't know how Alina reacted, she couldn't presume she knew what her strengths and weaknesses were! It was wonderful!

Mother and sister and boundries forgotten, the white and red female giggled in delight! It pleased her even more that the demanding brown puppy was having a good time - the sparkle in her eyes, her giggles and woofs - there was no doubt her new friend was playing.

And what a delightful thing it was!

"You better run fast," Amarii yipped in response, rolling to her feet and taking off like a light after Alina. Not giving the brown and white wolf a chance, Amarii held nothing back as she ran. Sure, Alina had a head start but Amarii prided herself in her ability to run. Running was the best game of them all. "I'm gonna get you!"
PostPosted: Sat Apr 14, 2007 7:42 pm

Heart pouded into her ears, confusing the dark chocolate femme of the 'hunter' on her tail. Creme socked paws just grazed the ground. Alina never was chased, the most she had done was attack Patches' black tail once, as it drug across the ground in the elder's sleep.

The thought of the memory caused her to loose the momentarly sight of path before her. The oak trees root that was six iches above the ground jutted out at the distracted pup.

"Oh no," Alina squeaked as her tail spinned to compensate for the sudden change in direction. Alina heard the words tossed out at her from Amarii. The creme paws scrambling to correct the slidding form.

A chase shouldn't be so easy. Her thoughts stressed when a back paw tangled itself in a root patch. It was to late to for her to turn around and chew off the root to contiue running. So instead, Alina squared herself up on three legs, the other shaking to get free of the trap, as she awaited the pink, red, and white pup to launch into an attack. The tip dipped tail never stopped wagging however as Alina awaited her attacker.

((OMG! So sorry this took so long to reply to. o.o I thought I'd responded and then kind of forgot. So sorry! ^^; ))

Amarii thought this was great! It was better then great, it was fantastic! Here she was, on the hunt, chasing a new friend! Wow. A shame Mayrii hadn't come along, but at least she could tell her sister all about her new friend. Maybe there were other wolves out there that liked to play, that were just as friendly as Alina?

Oh, Amarii hoped so!

Her thoughts were quickly shaken off as she found the distance between her and Alina was slimming. What? She'd stopped!?! Oh, what lucky day! A laugh on her tongue, she bunched her muscles and took a flying leap at the canine before her.

"I've got you now!" She sang, wanting so badly to topple the female over. It . . . It didn't really work. Not only was Alina a wee bit older but, despite Amarii's best efforts, she hadn't counted on the fellow pup to be so prepared! It was like she knew the attack was coming! Well. . . it did only make sense, didn't it?

Still, Amarii had to hand it to the brown and off-white female - she knew how to take a pouncing!

Pale jaws took to gnawing on the female, tugging on her ear as if to make it her own.

Wasn't this fun? She bet it would be even more fun if Alina got her leg untanageld. Then they could properly wrestle.

Stop to help her out? Heck no! This was war (even if it wasn't real) and it was giving Amarii the slightest advantage.
