Varian observed the park with a sour expression, his arms folded across his chest. For once, the boy was actually wearing pants rather then some variation on a robe or asian garb - albeit, they weren't jeans.
No, he was wearing black dress pants, and a sky blue dress shirt. Somehow, that stood out when you were in a park where the children were mostly dressed in jeans and t-shirts.
Brushing his hair over his shoulder, he shot a scowl over at his mother - comfortable seated on a bench, reading - before sitting down on his own bench. She thought that coming to a park would cheer him up about his ear...
Feh. Stupid woman.
Brushing his fingers lightly over his mangled ear, he wondered if he should have worn a hat. At least that would have hidden it. And while he doubted any of these grubby little diaper-fillers would notice his ear, it still made him feel...awkward.

Daemyn didn't mind the nature at all. The air was cool, but warm enough that he didn't have to keep his shoes on to go wandering down by the duck pond. If Varian thought he was the only child out there who had been forced into formal garb, he was wrong. The ebon-skinned male was currently in a pair of faded khaki shorts and a lilac, silk over-shirt, unbuttoned enough so that the beginning of the white shirt beneath was hinted at.
Though it looked best on him, Sibuna refused to allow him to wear too much black. It wasn't a color she particularly liked, so she was often looking for more and more combinations to go with his oddly-colored skin.
His silver hair was tied back low against his neck so that his face and long, slender ears were clearly visible. Beneath the sunlight it shimmered in an almost metallic way, as if it were bouncing off steel rather than hair. The wind did not move it.
It wasn't the nature about the park that he minded at all. It was the light. It was too bright out for his tastes. He was beginning to like the day less and less without consciously realizing it. He felt too hot too often if he stayed out for long. This was why he eventually had to turn his sights away from the ducks in the center of the pond and focus on scaling the hill back towards the shade.
On the way, there was Varian. Daemyn wasn't much if he wasn't perceptive, and the sight of another with similar ears as his drew his attention. Well. One was a rather mangled ear in his opinion. Strange that the boy seemed so clean... Maybe it was all an outward act? Were they similar in such an aspect? Daemyn decided he had been staring for far too long, though the other hadn't seemed to have caught sight of him. Really, it wasn't often he approached anyone.
But it was in the shade. There was nothing more to do. The other boy looked angry.
Silently, the fae approached the bench, his outward appearance suddenly shifting to one of a weary boy who had probably been irritated and worked all day long. His voice, a soft purr that only hinted at how deep it would soon become, was directed towards that lacerated ear. "Is this seat taken?"

Oh, Varian would laugh if someone asked if he'd been forced into formal clothing - he preferred the formal ones. In fact, his mother often tried to force him into jeans and t-shirts...and failed miserably, of course.
Hearing someone speak, he opened his mouth and prepared to snap out a rude response - when he noticed that other's ears. Like his. And Kayce's.
Hmm...well, all the fae he'd seen so far had ears like this. Did that mean that the only ones with ears like this were fae? Whatever the case, if this was another fae, he'd try to be a bit less confrontational.
And of course it wasn't because the last fae he'd snapped at had attacked him. Uhuh.
"...it's available."
He would be less rude - he didn't say (think?) that he'd be friendly, though. And the fact that this boy had ears like his made him feel a bit more self-conscious about his own ear...those pathetic children may not have noticed, but this one might.
Appraising the other boy, Varian kept his face cool - not angry, but not friendly either.
"Who are you?"
Well, nobody could say he had much in the way of manners.

While Daemyn would prefer wearing nothing at all.
It was wise that Varian didn't snap at him, though the boy wasn't particularly violent. It just would have exposed him a bit more- right now, Daemyn was carefully observing him, whether or not he showed it. After the other boy had confirmed that the seat was untaken -as he assumed it was- and somewhere between Varian's musings of just how rude he was intending to be, the dark one took a seat.
There was a question to his identity, and Daemyn arched his near-invisible brows, settling back into the bench.
"Someone like you, perhaps." He offered mysteriously, staring down the hillside back towards the pond.
"Who are you?" Oh my. But his tone was not mocking, nor contemptuous. Something vaguely playful ran beneath it though, almost daring the other to provide some amusement. He was so used to manners himself.

Varian's eyes narrowed at the response, as he listened closely for any sign of rudeness. If this boy was making fun of him....
But he didn't hear anything like that.
He appraised the other boy, considering the question. Someone like him? He sincerely doubted it; nobody was like him, of course. Although they may the 'confidence' in common, it seemed.
Arrogance, others would call it.
Someone obviously above you was the thought that ran through his mind, his foul temper urging him to say it and be rid of the boy. But, striving to avoid another Kayce-esque event, he decided upon a slightly less rude alternative.
"Beauty, of course."
If the other boy wouldn't answer who he was, Varian would respond to that same query with something he considered as accurate as his name. As far as the blonde boy was concerned, he was beauty. If the other child wanted to play this sort of game, Varian would join in.
A clashing of wits was certainly bound to be more entertaining them feuding violently with him, would be.

Oooh, yes, temper temper, Varian. The boy seemed docile enough, but it could be another Kayce incident waiting to happen. Think of your other ear!
Arrogance was pride, and pride was a sin. His mother would be displeased if she ever found out.
To Varian's response, there was a soft musing sound made from the very base of the boy's throat, his black eyes glistening. Irritation? Impatience? Amusement. The other boy had picked up the challenge quite splendidly.
"Beauty does not seem to be enjoying himself," The dark one observed, tilting his head as he thought it over. "But in its own element doth it sit. There's reason for me to be tired of this park, but you...? It's a nice day."

"A remarkable day, and view, yes."
Despite his poor temper, Varian was beginning to find his moods lifted. This boy was...intriguing. He had yet to meet anyone who entertained him like this boy was beginning to.
"It can be as lovely as it wants, but fill it with enough rats, and the loveliness of it all fades away."
The 'rats' being all those children running amok.
To be completely honest, Varian would likely love this park - if there was no one else in it. They ruined it, to him...especially the shrieking, slobbery little children.
As he glanced over, his own crystalline eyes observing Daemyn, he failed to categorize what it was in those eyes. He had never paid much attention to people, what with most being not worthy of him - but he regretted that now, as he was unable to determine how the other boy was reacting to him.
Hm. Well, he'd find out sooner or later. Best to just be patient, and at least enjoy the momentary entertainment.

Rats! At that, Daemyn's lips twitched at their very corners, parting again before they could expose what might have formed against them. Nuh uh. He wasn't going to be that easy.
"Pity," He sighed softly, casting his eyes over the children, "But even though vermin bask in the beauty here, there may still be places untouched... Have you cared to explore the rest of the park?"
His legs moved idly in the grass, his toes brushing over the cool earth. He seemed at peace now, though he had just recently expressed a hidden suggestion. He could feel the other's eyes on him, but seemed not to notice, allowing himself to be freely inspected. If anything, he felt pleased with himself for the moment.

After a moment's consideration, Varian felt his own lips twitch and the corners tilted upward. Slightly.
"Now seems a good time to begin."
The rest of the park...he had considered it, before; he had just never spent enough time in the park to warrent doing so. And to be completely honest, he was always a little worried about the dirt: the pale colors he normally preferred to wear did not go well with it.
"Beauty is useless without someone to appreciate it, however."
Perhaps Varian meant beauty in reference to himself, or reference to the day...he would leave that up to the other boy to decide. Honestly, he was a bit curious to see what Daemyn would think he had meant.
What had he actually meant? Oh, he thought he'd keep that to himself
"And while loneliness is preferrable to keeping company with rats, one who appreciates is always welcome."
Oh, Varian was enjoying this game! A compliment hidden within an invitation, within a possible compliment to himself - or the day, of course.

The eyebrows that he raised at Varian's decision expressed a soft surprise that was not all feigned. Yes, now was as good a time as any. He, personally, preferred the darkness, but didn't believe the other would be sitting around for that long. His own mother would drag him away before then. And then there was always the fact that there was no detail to see in the dark.
"Perhaps not useless," The dark-skinned fae reasoned, "But wasted."
Was it the blonde or the park? Double meanings, hmm... Of course, either way, it was an invitation that he had been wanting, so did it really matter?
"Even an Enigma can appreciate Beauty, maybe more so than the rats that greedily draw near. Certainly they would be more gracious."
And with that, the boy moved to stand, his form beneath the forced clothing rippling with the beginnings of supple muscle. The invitation was accepted, apparently, as well as fuel intentionally added to that flaming pride.
A walk would do him good. He was actually a rather restless Enigma.

"Enigma..."
Varian tasted the name, before nodding with a decision: he liked it. It was suitable for the dark fae beside him.
Rising to his feet, Varian offered a hint of a smile to the other boy, before beginning to stride on the path that led into the small 'forest' in the park. It wasn't a true forest, of course...but it was large enough that one could forget they were within the city, for a little bit.
While Enigma was easily spotted as muscular, budding warrior, 'Beauty' didn't fit the same sort of mold. Limber and lean, his own form was mostly hidden under his yukata. In fact, very little skin was even showing; his wrists and hands, his neck up, and his feet, whenever the geta sandals swept out from underneath his yukata.
Walking along the path, he paused when they reached a small wooden bridge over a creek. Leaning over it, his lips actually curved into a true smile, this time.
Perhaps today wasn't as bad as he thought it would be. Although of course, he still needed to plan how to 'remove' Kayce...but not now. He would save that for the dark hours.

The smile did not go unnoticed, and was almost contagious. Luckily, Varian had begun to walk before he could see the corners of the young fighter's lips twitch upwards. The Enigma would stay somewhat mysterious.
The forest of sorts began to encase them, and the larger of the two found himself feeling a little more at ease. They were more shrouded here, instead of being vulnerably open to all sky attacks and visible to virtually anyone.
The last thing he needed was his guardian coming to interrupt the peace with her questions. And there would be a lot of them. It'd undoubtedly shatter the moment.
When they came to the bridge, he unobtrusively stepped to Beauty's side, not having to lean so much to see over into the creak. It looked cold. Out of the corner of his eye, he detected the smile on the other's lips and felt suddenly a little warmer. In some ways, he believed himself to be the cause of that smile.
"No rats in sight." He murmured softly, keeping his jest just below the audible ripple of the stream over rocks.

Varian closed his eyes for a moment, just enjoying the sun and the wind; it was so nice out...and it had been so cold, as of recently. It was wonderful to have such a temperate day, for once.
Opening his eyes, he saw a flash of color down in the stream. So he leaned farther, to try and spot what it was, and...
creak
Just a little creak as warning, before the entire railing collapsed, and tumbled into the creek. And with a startled squawk, gravity snatched at Varian, and he followed.
His only thought at that point was rather understandable, if a bit out of character for the more poetic speech he'd been adopting for the past while.
Oh Crap.

Daemyn attempted to urge his body into a more peaceful stance, his dark eyes sweeping over the scene splayed out before them. Arms propping themselves up against the railing, he wondered to himself if this was what the people on the television screen experienced when there was some level companionship. He didn't socialize too often, aside from with his mother. And that in itself was more of a precarious balancing act.
His senses had tingled when the blonde leaned forward, but he had dismissed them as his body's usual protest for activity. He would regret it.
The creak caused him to glance over, his arms slowly beginning to draw away from the railing. The railing was suddenly crumbling before him... and it seemed Varian was going along with it.
Black hands snatched and swiped at the air just behind the colorful clothing, missing. Having leaned into it, he managed to grab the tie that held the yukata together with a second try, the heels of his bare heels digging into the wood beneath for support.
He had managed to grab Varian, though the boy was dangerously close to having his head dipped in water. Daemyn was trying to hold up the other's body with only one hand on the tie across his chest while also trying to keep his own weight on the bridge.
Needless to say, the position didn't hold itself for long. Maybe when he was older.
But now, he lurched over slowly, his one arm flapping as if it'd help. In a last desperate attempt, he threw the arm with Varian on it behind him, hoping to drop the other male on the wooden structure while he himself plunged headlong into the stream below.
Water in his mouth, soaking through his clothes and hair. It was so cold. His fingers scrabbled at the rock surface beneath that he had landed on, some dull pain streaking through his stomach from having the stones pressed into his belly. Coughing, he spit out both water and silver hair, which had come slightly undone from its tie with all the moving.

For the split second where Varian hovered over the water, his hair dipping into it, held only by his obi tie, he mused that it was like those stereotypical situations where 'time stood still'. Because he had seen those rocks just beneath the water, and really didn't want to contemplate what would happen if he went in head first.
Which his imagination was very pleasantly supplying him with images of, accompanied by the rampant beating of his heart. And of course, he felt very relieved he'd tied his obi so tight.
And then that moment ended, as Varian felt them slip - and then felt himself thrown up onto the bridge, while he heard a splash from in the stream.
Feeling almost dazed, in a state of shock, he scrambled to the side and saw Daemyn. And, moving more quickly, he had stood and hurried to get down to the other boy. He didn't leap in, of course - even feeling panicked, he knew that was a bad idea.
Instead, he hurried to the side and slid down the bank; then he hurried to Daemyn.
"Are you alright?!"
Not knowing anything about medicine, Varian hurriedly tried to drag the other boy to the bank; at least get him out of the water. For once, he paid no mind to his clothing, letting them get wet without even worrying in the slightest about it.
He seemed surprisingly anxious: it was a rare occurrence that he actually worried about anyone.
