Hello and welcome to my quest for the spirit of a Grandfather Clock (aka Time Stops for No Man) I've got most of the information up now, so if anyone wants to give me critiques or encouragement, I'd love to hear them!

Grandfather Clocks keep time through the movements of a pendulum which swings back and forth each second, creating the "tick tock" sound most people are familiar with.
Grandfather Clocks are tall, floor mounted pendulum clocks, usually made of wood and with a lot of decorative molding. The pendulum is traditionally visible, either open to air or behind a glass panel. The face of the clock usually has large numerals and decorative hands.

The Child
Name: Galileo (Named for Galileo Galilei, an Italian astronomer and inventor, but also for his guardian's grandfather Galileo Bonheur.) Nicknames: Gal Sprit: Grandfather Clock
Physical Description: Skin Tone: Brown and shiny, like dark wood, but pale tan around his face. Eye Color: Very dark grey, almost black. Somewhat glossy. Hair Color: Pewter-ish Silver Hair Style: Bowl cut with bangs Physical Build: Gal will become tall and thin as he ages, finishing out around 6'3". He stands and sits very straight and with almost rigid posture. He has perpetually narrow shoulders and hips and never seems to gain any weight. Distinguishing Features: Galileo's face has marks like a clock - IE, a "12" smack dab in the middle of his forehead, a "3" on his left cheek, a "6" on his chin, and a "9" on his right cheek, but with the other numbers missing. Moving downwards, Galileo has a glass-yet-flexible panel running from about his collarbone to his belly button and through it, rather than ordinary internal organs , are visible a pendulum heart and various gears and other clockwork interior bits. The pendulum swings back and forth in time to his heartbeat and he always makes a faint "tick tock" sound. Clothing Style: Gal dresses very scholarly - a little bit like an oxford student, if that makes sense. He likes khakis, collared shirts (especially with pinstripes) and sweater vests. It's not that he minds his glass panel, it's just that it's impossible to not cover it up, so he does. Another thing about his clothing is that Gal feels extremely attached to the memory of Chess's great-grandfather, possibly even more strongly than he feels towards Chess. More often than not, he will accent his outfits with a belt or a sweater that belonged to the old man. (Usually with comical results because the clothes are much too large.) Gal does not believe in wearing watches. He has a fairly good sense of time and watches get thrown off by his personal time bubble.
Personality: Galileo is stoic, dignified, and very serious. He moves at whatever pace suits him and is not particularly concerned with how fast or how slow the rest of the world is moving. This causes him to alternate between moments of extreme procrastination and extreme GET-UP-AND-GO-NESS, all without breaking his serious and dignified presentation. He doesn't interact particularly well with others, but that's not to say he doesn't get along with people. He moves at strange paces, always faster or slower, so he needs someone willing to accommodate his conditions and not the other way around. After all, time doesn't stop for anyone...
All that taken into consideration, Gal is a very demanding and selfish little boy. He wants his way, and he wants it NOW, not later. And it has to be HIS way. Don't try to get him to compromise because it's not going to work and will likely just make him sulky. He's quirky and temperamental like an old piece of machinery that's been in use a just little too long, but that's just a little bit of his charm. He also tends to act like he's smarter than everyone around him, which may or may not be true. Either way, he sure thinks it is and he hates being proven wrong.
-->This obnoxious personality may or may not improve with age.
In other words, Gal will be a fussy baby, a stubborn toddler, a petulant child, a headstrong teen, etc. Chess is naming her first gray hair after him.
Likes: The smell of old books, rhythms, astrophysics, being right, controlling people, sweater vests, classical music, people he deems intelligent
Dislikes: Fire, television, being wrong, being controlled, footie pajamas, sticky foods, dirt, termites, small and messy children
Abilities: (Not necessarily all positive)
Localized Time/Relativity: Grandfather clocks can run fast or slow depending on when they were last wound and because of glitches in the clockwork. Accordingly, time runs faster or slower around Galileo depending on his whims. As one approaches Galileo, time begins to speed or slow, though perception of it does not. It's all very relative. Someone within Galileo's time bubble will, however, notice things around them seem to be moving faster or slower in comparison to things within the bubble.
Flamable: Definitely a disadvantage. Gal's body seems to catch fire about as easily as dry, varnished wood, and, as a result, he's not too fond of open flames.
Splinters: Gal can give people splinters if they grab him without warning. On the adverse side, his body splinters instead of getting injured in other ways. These injuries generally take a while to heal, but they do eventually heal. He can even grow back fingers and toes. --And he doesn't bleed. Though that doesn't mean he doesn't feel pain. The process of regeneration is a very, very painful. On some levels, his physiology is more like a tree than a mammal.
SUPER-AWESOME ADVANCED ABILITY: Singularities: Building on Gal's abilities to control spacetime and on his astrophysics-heavy history, Gal would eventually gain the ability to bend spacetime in such a way that he can get from one place to another at speeds faster than light. At first the ability would not be particularly accurate - he'd be lucky if he was within fifty miles of his intended destination - but with time it would become more precise. Gal can transport others in his time bubble through his singularities, but their sudden disappearance from one location causes a brief hiccup in the time flow - a feeling of Deja Vu to those in the immediate vicinity. He would not discover this ability until the teen phase.
Past: The particular Grandfather Clock that Galileo embodies was built by a master clockmaker and bought by the great-grandfather of Galileo's guardian. For years, the clock resided in the study of the man's townhouse and he would spend hours on end discussing astrophysics theories with it as if it was another person. As years passed, the clock slowly became aware of itself as a clock, and then as an exceptionally intelligent clock, and then as a clock that would possibly consider answering back. Unfortunately, the old man died before that could happen and the house passed into the possession of his next of kin.
Needless to say, she was not expecting to find a baby in the inner compartment of a non-functional grandfather clock.

The Guardian
Name: Chess Bonheur Age: 22 Place of birth: Barton, Gaia Date of birth: June 3rd Occupation: In the market/unemployed (aerospace engineer) Orientation: Straight Appearance: Chess is short, thin, and not particularly muscular. In a world full of amazing looking people, she's rather plain and boring. Limp black hair, dull green eyes. Some boys have speculated she cleans up well, but no one has managed to prove it yet. She recently graduated from Durem University with a degree in aerospace engineering (Grandfather would be proud) and is looking for a job in the space exploration industry. To present herself for potential employers, she tends to dress in business suits - pencil skirts and jackets - and keeps her hair tamed back into a ponytail. Personality: Chess stopped believing in the fantastic a long time ago. She needs facts in order to believe something exists. She has a very no-nonsense approach to the world, tending to try to apply the scientific method to everything. Due to certain events in her past, she fears intimacy and even close friendships. Mostly, she keeps to herself and her books. Her manner is cynical and her people skills are distant at best. If she'd ever let anyone close enough to find out, however, it would become known that Chess is extremely insecure about her talents, her appearance, and her role in the world. She has been this way since childhood, and it was only made worse by the relative rarity of women in her occupation. To put it simply, she has an undeserved inadequacy complex. Other: Chess recently had the good fortune of inheriting her great-grandfather's Barton townhouse, including his full library of rare texts, which she is rather excited about. I'm anticipating that she encounters Gal when she first looks around the house and finds him shut inside the no-longer-functioning Grandfather Clock that he is the spirit of.

^^ I very much like Galileo, especially the marks on his face. That sounds so adorable. And his temperment and powers make me smile. I like the ability to slow or quicken time around him. It's very ingenius ^^. Also his coloring is very nice, how his body is dark in comparison to his face XD;.
I'm veyr bad at this critiqueing thing if you couldn't tell by now, but I really do hope Galileo comes ot life. He sounds like a very interesting Spirit to deal with :3.

well first allow me to compliment your english skills you are part of 2 really good writers that I have taken note of seriously since i've been here your writing is very well worded and put together. I wish that I could write like that it would take me a couple days and countless thesaurus' and grammer references to match your writing skills.
but anyway to the task at hand Galileo is amazing i love the markings on his face and all the little details like that except maybe his hair color could be a different color because that is a lot of brown maybe just lighter too would be better but I would have to see what you see to really compare to what I see and what Canta see's for that matter when she draws'em the story for both Galileo and chess are incredible and the powers are actually really good i'd say it is harder for you to come up with powers than for Ripley because I am almost indestructable and you have many weaknesses but your one main power makes up for it greatly but maybe he could also have something to do with the glass window he has, maybe memories in time, gates, etc because like you said he has great knowledge in astrology and since astrology is greatly undiscovered you pretty much can do whatever astrological thing you want but gating would be cool because the creator of the clock chess' grandfather accidentaly opened a gate to gaia and technically Galileo has the same knowledge and more so that could work out really well and his personality is also good we need more stubborn and dullish characters in IotS everyone says if they are boring it is hard to RP but in reality it is just as easy it is more like the other tries to be more inspiring, or argumentative instead of everyone and it makes you more mysterious at the same time you watch them struggle to get something out of you but my hands hurt now lol so ill stop for now but I really cant find a flaw except a little on the hair color but all in all you did an incredible job

It is much better but one thing though
I would like to know what type of clothes he will wear I mean he has that glass thingy but if he wears shirts it will cover it up so im just curious as to how you can showcase his glass window and wear clothes because he can't go into most places without shirts or is he ashamed of it and tries to cover it up as best he can???

I feel like I should give this a little love bump, seeing as it's sunk pretty far down the page and I'm still seeking feedback.
