Well, I don't have a problem discussing manga or American comics in this forum (as long as it doesn't get carried away). Perhaps we should debate it in the Book Debate Arena. wink
I admire how much has to be said through dialogue in comics and manga. The artist may convey a lot of the emotions felt by the characters, but almost all of what the writer gets to write is dialogue. And you know you've found a really good story when you can read just the dialogue (on a text-based website, for example) and still get the feelings being conveyed. I used to visit maigo-chan before the Rurouni Kenshin series was sold in American bookstores, and the entire story came through. 3nodding

I think that technically, they shouldn't be allowed, but I really don't have a problem. I'm just afraid that people will focus mainly on manga instead of real books.
Hmm...I wonder what a SoT maga would be like?

They should be aloud. The arn't called manga. They are technically called graphic Novels. In hawaii the was mainly all that was read. Why worry about it being all that people will talk about. Most people have a broader horizan then just "manga". And the fact that they shouldn't be called books should be considered an insult to anyone who reads them. Since all a book is, is words on a page to create a image in you imagination to show you how someone eles sees something. the only difference is that graphic novels have the pictures in the book so someone can comprehend the pictures more easier. The are more like picture books than anything eles, but sill a book. So i beileve they should be aloud.... sweatdrop opps there i go with speeches. sorry.

A book is a book is a book.
Many people argue that they shouldn't be considered books because almost all of the text is dialogue and it's mostly pictures.
What about plays with pictures?
A book is a book is a book.

The definition of a book is words and pictures printed on paper that is bound together. A manga is a book. Why wouldn't it be a book?

I think it should be allowed. I read much manga myself. As long as people don't start talking about only manga.

I think they should be allowed. I read alot of manga but I also read normal books too. So we should be able to talk about both since I'm sure there are alot of people in this guild that read manga.

Thankyou for you'r opinions on the matter. I do agree though, I beleive they are books and should be discussable to a certain extent. I'm sure nobody wants IRTIA to be a Manga Book Guild! I just didn't want to seem out of place discussing them here. wink

I still have to read volumes 10 and 11 of Gravitation and volume 8 of Bleach. Normally I jump right in and read my manga as soon as I get home, but like everything else lately this one has procrastinated.
