♠Wow. I was really not expecting that reply. Thank you very much!
I used photo paper. See, if you cut into the shiny side, it cuts really easy, and you can get some really fine details. Also, if anyone ever says "Use a sponge and you can get amazing results!"
Shoot them in the head. If you're going to make a stencil, do it right, or not at all. xd ♠
Seconded photo paper.
I use regular sketchbook pages if it's a one-off stencil, but for repetitive usage, photopaper is A+. And 2iYo, did you mean celluloid sheets (aka overhead transparencies)? Cause those seem to work pretty well for me D:, I had them laying around anyways for silkscreening, but the only thing is your knife has to be pretty sharp or it buckles when you try to cut sometimes.
And I use sponge rollers when I'm doing it on fabric, one cause I don't want any over/underspray and two, cause then I can put in textile medium (so it'll actually stay on the fabric) or sparkles or whatever else.
I think the elitists who say everything stencilled should be spraypainted are idiots. If you're just hitting walls, signs or windows, sure, but if it's something legal, spraypainting just makes everything look wannabe DIY.
I also kind of agree with G.I.Z., although the fact that you freehanded I think makes up for it. So many people just go online and get pictures, then polarize them in photoshop, but someone who draws out their stencils has a place in my heart :} Keep it coming~!
