XIAN
Hypnotic black metal, sounding similar to Velvet Cacoon (no drugs, though). This is a serious black metal project formed as protest against generic Satanist black metal and preaches the teachings and history of Taoism as solution.
Do check out. Demo to be released soon.

I have listened to this a few times now. At first I didn't like it at all. Then as I listen to it more I find it more enjoyable. I guess I just had to get used to it. And I wouldn't mind hearing the demo when it's done.

Awesome vocalist. wink
Still though, it needs more. Better guitar work, and bass.

"Tao Black" is actually my least favorite song from the demo. My favorite is another one that is far more melodic and heavily hypnotic and repetitive. I won't spoil it for any of you.
The reason why it grows on you is because it's hypnotic black metal, so the more you listen, the more you tend to find yourself enjoying it, little by little.
As for the guitarwork and bass, the bass came AWFULLY light for some reason, and I'm working to correct that. I've taken a bit more Blut Aus Nord influence for the future full-length (but no, I'm NOT copying them. I just noticed ideas with their music that I found profoundly interesting, at least from "The Work Which Transforms God".) and I'm still working on the guitar. I... honestly don't see why everyone loves the vocals. I've yet to hear one bad thing about the vocals, but I don't feel like I lived up to that hype. xp

Edit: In retrospect I had to go back and put this disclaimer before my comments, because coming from most people they would appear insulting. However, coming from me they're compliments.
I like it because I used to create sounds to torture people to and this reminds me of it.
It also sounds like somebody scratched the hell out of a CD. biggrin

If you can, I'll give you my e-mail address I'll try to upload a stream to the official website. Other than that, I can't send out songs like this (unless you're lucky enough to be involved).

Blut Aus Nord?BAN = BM PWNAGE I just added "Ultima Thulee" to my collection. 'Tis brilliant. I've heard bits and pieces of their latest, and it's not NEARLY as good. It's still good, but not AMAZING like their old stuff has been. I AM glad that they didn't just re-hash "The Work Which Transforms God", though.

They've definitely become less harsh, and more experimental. Everyone's been complaining about it, but I kind of like it. I still agree with you though, their older stuff is definitely better (atleast basing off of the two albums I have).

I do enjoy it, but I just choose to ignore it because it doesn't capture the style of black metal I enjoy so much. It's still a good album, but it's utterly ignorable, which is BAD BAD BAD for Blut Aus Nord. Great stuff altogether, though. Earlier stuff is heavy early Enslaved influenced material, then "The Work Which Transforms God" is AMAZING in it's own way.

LAI LAI HEI I need to get onto downloading more of their albums, apparently. Anything before "TWWTG" has quite a bit of Enslaved-esque riffing.
