"Dad! Dad dad dad dad dad!" Kileyo woke at dawn that morning and was running around his father, tail wiggling and wings flapping and all energized from a good night's sleep. "DAD WAKE UP!"

And that's when the little colt slipped footing and crashed into the older stallion with an oof and a sheepish smile. Well, at least that would wake his father up, right?

Occassionally, at times when he was off by himself for the all-too-rare solitary walks, Safi would ponder the differences between being a father and not. One of the things he often thought about was the difference in freedom, in space...

In sleep.

Oofing a bit, Safi lifted his head to eye his son, thankful that the sharp horn hadn't connected when the rest of him had. "You don't waste any time, do you Killy? Let me guess; you're ready to go out flying, aren't you?"

Never mind that dawn wasn't even fully underway yet!

"Why waste time? Momma says there's never enough of it!" He laughed and wiggled around against his father, "Flying yes! You promised 'n' I'm ready cuz I'm bigger now, right? RIGHT?!"

Yes. He was far too excited and, as had been said about him before, he had Fortune's concept of personal space. The colt managed to get to his feet so Safi could stand up but once more started racing around.

One of the two leggers HAD to have given him sugar. Nobody was that hyper that early by themselves.

"I know, I know; you think I'd make a promise and then forget about it? You're lucky that I'm not a crotchety sort of father, though, or otherwise I might make you wait for ME to decide when a good time is."

Still, Safi was chuckling as he pulled himself to his feet, shook out his mane and ruffled his wings. Glancing out the teepee flap at how dark it was, he groaned inwardly; he'd never been a morning stallion, after all. But...

Well, he remembered how exciting it had been for him back when he'd learned to fly, and he HAD promised...

Grinning at the colt that raced about him, Safi stuck out a wing to catch him, liking to KNOW that he was being paid attention to when he was saying something important. "So, we'll go out and see about getting you airborne. Right after I eat something, take a quick swim, groom my wings, sharpen my hooves, track down Elizabeth, get your sister some breakfast, tell your mother what's going on..."

A daunting list to be sure...or it would be, if he was serious!

Kileyo stilled with his father's wing caught him and he blinked up at Safi at the list that was given. His eyes went wide and, if he could have, his lower lip would have jutted out into an overwide pout.

"Y..you're not serious, right? That'll take all day!" He wailed, not catching on that Safi wasn't being serious. Of course, he was his mother's child and wouldn't that be the case? His tail began to twitch and he was totally going to enter tantrum mode if Safi was the tiniest bit serious.

His mother could most definitely get breakfast for Sai and figure out what was going on by herself and he didn't need to track down Liz or do any of those other things to teach him how to fly! It was just CRUEL!

Sometimes you had to work for it, sometimes the correct response fell into your lap. Laughing, Safi gave Kileyo a light swat on the nose, his eyes and voice both teasing. "Of COURSE I'm not serious, Killy; since when have I ever sharpened my hooves? And you know very well that I hate swimming in the early morning; the water is too cold. I just had to tease you! But now...hurry up or you'll miss your lessons!"

His growing tantrum cut off immediately and he grinned at his father, "That was a dirty trick!" It really was, taking advantage of his gullibility right there. Not that he was usually gullible...

The colt raced out of the teepee and started running before he remembered he didn't know where they were going to go and skidded to a halt. "Uh. Dad? Where are we goin'?"
PostPosted: Sat Mar 31, 2007 3:56 pm

Grinning, Safi followed after his son. "A dirty trick? No, a dirty trick is waking up your poor father at the crack of dawn with the assumption that he has nothing better to do with his time than teach a frenzied kidlet how to fall without hitting the ground. Luckily for you, I DON'T have anything better to do!"

And he happened to like teaching flight, to be honest; in Kileyo's case, it was quite likely that Safi had been looking forward to starting these lessons as much as his son!

"And we're not going that far; just up the hill to the plateau. You're not going to be ready to tackle mountains on the first lesson!"

Well, likely not, anyway, though anything was possible!

"Momma says that because you have no life," Kileyo said wisely, "I'll race you there!" And he took off as fast (which wasn't very fast at all) as his little legs could possibly carry him.

The giggling of the foal could be heard as he ran and stumbled and tried not to fall on his little face as he did - which was a very hard thing to do. He was quite clumsy and Fortune always made fun of him for it.

"SLOWPOKE!"
PostPosted: Sat Mar 31, 2007 6:12 pm

"Yeah, your Momma should talk. The only reason I have no life is because I gave it up to deal with you and your sister." Chuckling, Safi followed after Kileyo at a much slower pace; he'd never been very fast when it came to walking or running, though he was quite swift when it came to flying.

However, THAT would be unfair at the moment, no? So he merely strolled after Kileyo, taking his sweet time. After all, he still wasn't wholy awake yet, so why would he hurry? Especially when it was so much more amusing to meander...

"Patience is a virtue, Kileyo!"

"One that I dun' have!" he called back, zipping back and forth energetically after he realized that his father was not going to race him. It didn't take him too long to tire, though, and he dropped back to a slow pace that matched Safi's, panting.

Maybe that hadn't been such a good idea.

"You like me n Sai though, right?"
PostPosted: Sat Mar 31, 2007 6:48 pm

"You think you need to tell ME that, Killy? You've never been patient, not even when you were a basket." Smiling, Safi dropped his stride to match that of his son's, amusement at the rapid rate of change in the foal's attitude. Then again, when one was a foal it was easy to get caught up in the excitement of the moment and forget about things like the distance to where you were going!

He remembered those days, back when it was himself and Indawo, getting carried away on a regular basis; and now he was watching his children do the same thing. How time flew...

At Kileyo's question, he smiled a bit and looked down at Kileyo, eyes dancing. "If I didn't, do you REALLY think we'd be going flying right now? Yep, even though it means I have, to quote your mother, 'no life', I wouldn't want to live any other way. That DOESN'T mean you can wake me up at the crack of dawn all the time, however."

He was quiet for some time after his father's answer before looking up at him and canting his head to the side, "Dad, how come mom tries to spend as much time away as possible? I mean, doesn't she like me or somethin'?" It was completely out of nowhere but..

"I mean, I don't look like either of you 'n'..." He frowned. Honestly the colt didn't understand why all the other foals looked like their parents and had both adults doting on them and he looked nothing like Safi and Fortune...and Fortune was rarely there.

Raising a brow, Safi glanced down at his son, the seemingly random question taking him off guard. Then again, it wasn't that surprising Kileyo would be concerned; as his son grew older, Safi had been waiting for 'those questions'. After all, they were hardly a 'typical' family, in any sense of the term.

Walking alongside his son, Safi looked over at him and smiled slightly, ruffling the short black mane. "Your mother...is a space cadet, Killy. She loves you, but she knows that she would forget about the logistics of raising a kid if left on her own. She's forgetful and needs to wander; you need more stability. That's why you have two parents, actually."

Shaking his head, Safi looked down at his son again. "Have I seriously not talked to you about this before? Shame on me!"

He shook his head, "Nope, you haven't. So mom isn't around because she needs to wander? But...You guys don't act like normal parents." He made a face, "They're always so googly over each other but you guys aren't mates and I don't understand. Do you love momma? And you still haven't said why I don't look like either of you...Do I look like a grandma or grandpa?"

The little colt just...wasn't going to let it go, it seemed. He looked up at Safi again and crossed his eyes, "Cuz I'm white 'n' rainbowy and you're blue n she's black."
