Which Prime did you think was the best? Gen1 Optimus Prime, BW Optimus Primal, RID Optimus Prime, Armada Optimus Prime, Energon Optimus Prime, or the short-lived Rodimus Prime? Post your choice, and your reason why!

My pick is Gen1 Optimus Prime. No matter what, no one could match him... The design kicked all the other ones' tails clear across the galaxy (a reference for those of us who have seen the movie way too many times.), and his voice was far superior to all others. Also, he's the Prime I grew up with, so the nostalgia factor is big.

I too think Generation One Prime wins hands-down, especially the Dreamwave version...because in the DW continuity you get to see him transformed from a clerk into the hero that he is, and I think seeing his past helps us appreciate his present even more.

Of course, single-handedly trashing the Decepticons in the movie is also pretty high up on the badass list!

Between the movie, and watching his ascention to Prime from Orion Paks (thanks to Alpha Trion), G1 Prime wins. Compassionate, strong, Slaggin UNSTOPPABLE!!! I think the best example of his following comes from a meeting of friends I had a while back. The Transformers movie was on- and in the famous beginning scene where Prime thrashes the 'Cons, and transforms one person said:

"Optimus Prime doesn't have jumpjets under his bumper, does he?"

"Who cares- It's Prime, he can do anything!!!" heart blaugh

Damn straight!

Optimus Prime is my hero. heart

...

Boy that sounded fangirlish. Seriously though, compassionate, strong, believes that all life is sacred, and fights for his principles...he's just freaking awesome.

Well . . . I have a fairly interesting argument against why life is sacred via George Carlin, but that is another thread. 3nodding

Yeah, G1 Prime is iconic, he's legendary. He's the Prime that all other Primes aspire to be like.

. . . yet almost none manage to achieve.

Well, Armada and Energon prime doesn't seem to have any real character to them that will set them apart. Beast Machine's Primal was some kind of weird hippie. I liked the Beast War's Primal, but still G1 Prime comes in first for reasons already told. 3nodding

Yeah, the original G1 Prime was the best in my opinion as well. He seemed like he had the strongest will to uphold his code and morals. I think he was also the best leader in both maintaining command over the Autobots and in miltary battle. Primal from Beast Wars is pretty cool and was a great fighter and leader, but he didn't seem as knowledgable about what to do as G1 Prime, though I won't hold it against him for doing his best.

If it wasn't for the strengths of both G1 Optimus and Megatron we wouldn't be here having this conversation right now. Transformers would just boil down to having been a cool toyline and that is it. The characters in the cartoon rotated out due to Hasbro dictating who had to be used in the series. Optimus was a constant and remains the iconic hero and iconic vehicle of hard work and strength.

Beast Wars Optimus would follow up as a character. He was thrust into a wartime situation and did his best to deal with things. He didn't whine and b**** like Rodimus could. He just buckled up and dealt with it evan as Rattrap and Dinobot argued and Depthcharge ignored him.

Figure wise-20th Anniversery Optimus as the best figure of all time. Both American issued Beast Wars Optimus were nice, but not fantastic. Leo Convoy is just too white and that shoulder hinge makes you want to tear your hair out. Big Convoy is an awesome brute with the hardest transformation, but quite possibly the coolest of the Convoy head sculpts. Bendy Prime is pretty good and E Prime only looks decent as Wing Convoy. Cybertron Prime looks like it might be one of the best of the bunch though.

I really like the new Energon Optimus Prime. I really like it when they transform and combine together!! My favorite combination is Omega Supreme and Optimus!! biggrin

Autobot, I agree with you on Prime, but there have been better Megatrons since G1 in my opinion.

I am sorry if this is rude, and please forgive me, but doesn't Energon prime remind people too much of Power Rangers?! Four vehicles (each a different color from the others and Prime himself) attach to turn him from 'Beer gut Prime' to 'Megazord Prime'. sweatdrop I mean, at least they could have kept a color scheme that matched Prime himself . . .

Yes, he does seem like a power ranger now. I never really understood why they all need to powerlink. Doesn't really seem to do much other than show off what the toy can do. rolleyes
