At her lady LeShade's request here is the official Doors thread.
History.
The Doors were formed in 1965 in Los Angles, away from the hippie hotspot of San Fransisco, setting them appart from most other psycedelic bands. The original members were Jim Morrison and the Manzarek brothers; Ray, Jim, and Rick. Jim and Rick quit before being signed to a record contract and were replaced with John Densmore and Robby Krieger setting the final lineup for the band that would revolutionize 60's music.
Their distinctive sound was a mesh of influences. Robby Krieger was trained in Spainish Flamenco guitar which can be heard in most of the Doors music. The distortion of an electirc organ was a trademark of the Doors sound. While other artits like Bob Dylan had used the organ before, Ray Manzarek was the first to use it as a driving force for a band's music. He used it the way many band's used bass guitar but with an eerie sound that harkened back to Bach and Beethoven. Jim Morrison's haunting vocals and lyrics provided the final touch on the band's unique sound. Morrison understood poetic meter and verse better than any lyricist before or since. He painted vivid pictures of life, love, and acid in songs like "The Lizard King" and "Riders on the Storm".

RJccJ 100 g to the first person who can tell me where the Door's got their name. The name `The Doors' was Jim's idea and it was inspired by a quote from William Blake, "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear as it is, infinite." Jim himself was fond of saying, "there are things known and things unknown and in between are The Doors." right? - robin -

I heart the Doors so incredibly much it's unbelievable. "Crystal Ship" is my favorite Doors tune of the moment.

A lot of people have an obsession with him. I ... am no exception. Too bad I wasn't even alive when he died. ;-;
