ok, so basically my problem is not practice: i practice a lot, but i never seem to get any better. can anybody tell me what i can do to make my practice time more fruitfull?

Run through scales, use metronome, and give your self a break! Fingers can only take so much abuse. Every hour, give yourself a 15 minute break or so.

learn a new lick everyday . or make licks . That should help , you should learn how to be a musician more then a guitar player . Thnk musicial .

make crap up, and yeah try to learn some new stuff. playing the same riff over and over again isn't really going to help you out that much.

always challenge urself, even if it means playin a riff or lick really slowly to begin with just keep playin it till you can do it perfectly, then pick another riff/lick and do the same. another thing is to learn songs from different styles, this will make your guitar playin more versatile and make your musical knowledge better. =]
