I have been taking Effexor XR for depression for over a year now. When I found out that I'm pregnant my APRN told me to drop the drug. Cold turkey. Now I'm dizzy and vomiting and just plain sick. Has anyone else had this experiance? The withdrawal from this drug is like a heroin withdrawal, from what I've read. Still, I cant take it while I'm knocked up because of birth defects and whatnot.

I think you should take another visit to your doctor and talk about the effects it has had on you. Maybe there is something they can prescribe that will help or some suggestions to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I've never been on any form of drugs for a long period of time so I can't help with experience. However I do know that excessive vomitting is not good in any situation, least of all pregnancy.

I've had a similar experience. I'm a diagnosed manic depressive and schitzophrenic, and some of my (many) drugs were deemed possibly harmful to my baby, so they took me off of carbamazepine (a mild antipsychotic) and Temazepan (a sedative to help with insomnia). I went through hardcore withdrawl from the Temazepan, and didn't sleep for four days because I was in a manic episode.
I had to deal with my withdrawl because there is no viable substitute for Temazepan, but you should talk to your psychiatrist or your OBGYN about the possibility of trying out a substitute drug. Even just certain vitamens help a little.
