Oh lord! Freedom! Fortune was running and taking in the sweet air that most definitely wasn't a teepee. Never one to be tied down in one place, Fortune had had a definite hard time being a mother and had, once again, left Kileyo in the more than capable hooves of her best friend and Kileyo's father.
The black mare skidded to a halt and flopped down on the soft grass, sighing and looking up at the sky. Such a nice day with the clouds fluffy and...Well, just everything seemed better that day.
"Freeeedom!"
She had to say it.

His conversation with Nostalgia had awakened him to things that he had forgotten. Things that she would have never let him forget. He had gone back into the woods to remember those things one at a time. Sun; the way it felt when it warmed his coat. Water; the way it moved against his legs as he waded through a stream. Air; the soft caress of the breeze... Sunrise and sunset. He woke up early enough to see them both. Flowers. Yes, there were flowers. She had liked them particularly. There were beds of them in the open areas of the forest and, upon finding one, he did something completely unlike him. He dropped down, rolling through the flowers to cover himself in their scent; a few of the smaller ones clinging to his dark mane and tail. Spring. It was her favorite season.

The rustle and flash of black caught the mare's attention and Fortune turned her head. Something was familiar...Not wanting to get up and go check, the mare began to roll across the field until she landed right beside him and stuck her nose right against him to get a better look.
"...Draven?" It had been forever since she had seen the one who had took her out on the ice and raced her to the tree. Well! So much had happened since then!
Fortune's eyes lit up, "Is that you?!"

The nose that touched him caused him to start, rolling quickly to his hooves. His defenses had been down and he'd allowed himself to be suprised by...
"Fortune?" He gazed down at the odd mare, finding a deep laugh rumbling in his throat soon after. "I'm pretty sure it is me... Is it you?" He teased, obviously in better spirits now than he had been previously. Even if she had caught him by suprise he couldn't allow that to ruin his moment.

Fortune positively beamed at her friend, "It can't be you, you're teasing me and laughing. Who's abducted the real Draven, hmm?" She giggled and nosed him affectionately.
"Yeah, it's me! Gettin' away from my foal." Wouldn't that come as a shock to Draven? Fortune. A mother.
...The poor thing.

He nudged her nose away with his own, taking a few steps back as if ready to bolt through the field of flowers like a colt if she tried that again. His brows then lofted high, head tilting to the side. "Your... Foal? Has it been that long since I last saw you. You weren't showing at all and I don't believe it was that long." Time must have moved strangely for him. It had to have... First it was winter and now it was spring. What else had he missed?

"Oh! I...Uh, well, I found a basket and I took it with my friend and we've been raising the little colt that came out. His name is Kileyo...I thought the basket was food though." She pouted lightly at that before her bright smile appeared again and she remained down low in the grass. It just felt too nice to force herself to get up quite yet.
"How have you been, my friend?"

She had thought that a foal basket was... Food? He tossed his head back and laughed, imagining the conversation that the friend of hers that had been helping her must have had. "It sounds as if you have been busy, Fortune." He was still smiling as he tilted his head down towards her. "I have been... Well. Spring is a beautiful time of year and I am doing well to remember that. It is good to enjoy one's self in this sort of weather."

It had certainly been amusing - as had been her trying to convince Safi to name the new foal 'Snow Man' because of the whiteness of the basket. Fortune was just odd.
"Oh, yes. I've left him with his papa though. Of course, Safi probably isn't incredibly pleased over being left as a baby sitter again. Oh well, I generally make it up to him. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself."
Finally she forced herself to stand and shook the grass off her coat. If she didn't, it would start to itch lately and there was a severe shortage of trees that she liked lately. "Miss me?"

"So you've formed a family? That's good." He smiled, truly happy for the bright mare. "Take care of them and enjoy every moment of it, Fortune. A family is a wonderful thing to have..." As well as a horrible thing to loose.
He seemed to drift into thought for a moment before pulling himself out of it. "I had wondered how you were doing... Especially when I met another mare. She seemed to need a good cheering up like I did the day that I met you. I believe I managed to make her smile... Of course, now that I am here talking to you I wonder how she is doing as well." His brow furrowed slightly before he shook his head. "Are you enjoying motherhood?"

"I guess I do have some sort of family," She had calmed down from the initial rush, "Though Safi isn't my mate. It's an odd little situation but it's cozy. As for the other mare...Well, I'm glad you were able to cheer her up like I cheered you up. I have to admit, though, the ice...Well, that was fun."
Fortune wished there was ice all year round. Then she could teach Kileyo to ice skate. Of course she completely blocked out the fact she was horrible on the ice and could have killed herself.
"Well, it certainly has made me faster, that's for sure. I could beat you fairly this time." She was still certain he'd let her win that race.

"You needn't have a mate to have a family." He laughed. His 'family' had been family before he had taken a mate. It was the thought that often counted more than the ties of blood.
"You... Should be careful around the ice." He shook his head as he laughed once more, brow lofting at the mention of speed. "Does that mean you feel like racing again?"

"That's very true. I never plan on having a mate." And that much was true as well. Fortune's stance of the romantic type of love was certainly different from most mares she'd met in her time.
"I'm perfectly capable of being safe around ice, thank you, and if you're up to getting creamed I'm perfectly up to racing you again." She smirked over at him and flicked her tail.

"There's nothing wrong with having a mate if you ever find yourself ready... But friendship is also a beautiful thing and family is good in any way you manage to find it." He nodded slowly, shifting on his hooves before looking across the distance of the clearing. "I'm ready whenever you are, Fortune... And I won't go easy on you this time." He winked.

"No, there isn't anything wrong with it, per se." Fortune said thoughtfully before shaking her head, "I just never want to be in love if love truly exists." To be in love would mean giving control over to someone else and nobody would be allowed to have that control over her if she could help it.
"I'm ready...On your marks...get set..." She took off, "GO!"
Yep. She was a little cheater.
