Does anyone here have any knowledge of the infernal names, or LaVeyen satanism? I find them all very interesting.
I was reading up on a few of the names myself just a bit ago, and I read the satanic bible by Anton LaVey. I found an interesting bit of information, apparently, if I have interpreted it correctly , the apocrypha tend to make it seem that Belial is the father of Lucifer and influenced him to wage the rebellion. Any thoughs? interesting stuff...

We had a huge discussion about Lucifer/Satan in ED a long time ago (it got moved to GD, despite being a very informative thread, which prompted me to create this Guild). In any case, Rookherst made a very good argument for the belief that Lucifer was never a demon, but a Babylonian king.

Of course Lucifer and Satan are not the same entity anyway, anyone who has ever read the Bible knows that. The only reason people think Lucifer is Satan is because of John Milton's Paradise Lost in which he conflates a passage from Isaiah with other information about Satan in the Bible. There was never a "fall of Lucifer" or a "rebellion in Heaven" in the Bible. That's all crap Milton wrote about (maybe he didn't make it up, but somebody in the Middle Ages must have) in the 17th century or whatever.

In Jewish belief, Satan is an appendage of God and possible an angel ("satan" literally means "adversary").

LaVey of course, only chose to use Satanic imagery because he knew that would best offend and contrast his belief system with that of Christianity. From what I've read of Satanism, it's really just secular Humanism under a different name. Which is hardly as scary as the Satanist imagery suggests.

Where can I find a copy of the Satanic Bible by LaVey? I've been meaning to read it, but I can't seem to find a copy to read online.

I wouldn't think that's necesarilly true.

I always thought that religion focuses mostly on ego. In a GREAT number of religions there is a focus on reducing ego. Often times just in being a "humble servant" of sorts. Buddhism might even suggest that to be egoless is bliss.

LeVay struck me as saying that the ego should be empowered. That bliss comes through raising the ego. Ego is who we arei nthat philosophy so why not become greater by makinga bigger ego.

It may be somewhat shallow interpretation but I think the general mesage is pretty clear.

LaVey was all about Power. LaVey was the bully in the playground. The satanic bible suggests making a "god" out of yourself, and worshipping it. It brings back the eye for an eye thing. Have you read the very beginning? I forget what part it is. But its like a list of "commandments"
They are all very primitive and have no empathy whatsoever...
ah, i found them..

1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!

2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!

3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!

4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!

5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!

6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!

7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!

8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!

9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!

- these "commandments" or statements are absurdly... just, they remind me of the attitude many people get in if they listen to slipknot or something. I observe people in my school that can't put up any sort of fight that think they are tough. This seems like almost a dream for them that they are attempting to build into a reality. A fallback religion for power hungry or just cruel people

What's that supposed to mean? Psychic Vampires? People who occupy your thoughts when they needn't?

you must read the satanic bible to understand what they mean by "psychic vampires"

I've read through it, and I actually agree with several of the points that the Satanic Bible makes, but, it's not like LaVey's ideas were revolutionary, they were just the same ideas of some obscure religions and philosophies in a book with a controversial title.

Anyway, I picked up my copy at Barnes and Noble.

The last part of your statement sounds like disrespect to me.

Anyway, infernal names...
Not something to be toyed around with, obviously.
The problem with infernal names is that they cannot be accurately researched. Most of them are incomplete. And for good reason.
The only way to discover them is to actually do some field research, which is highly dangerous. Or else you can join certain secretive organizations that still possess records of the names.

Edit: Furthermore, there is a theory that some of the infernal names are bastardizations of the names of mesopotamian deities done so to demonize those particular religions. I.E. Astarte, Ishtar, etc being transformed into Ashtaroth.
