Ok, ok.
I'm mad now from a post in the musician's forum, that's been there a very long time, that's anti greenday
I personally dislike those those guys now, and I really dislike all these threads about them, and all the people arguing about it
The final straw was when someone was talking about the style of music, and how music isn't supposed to be a work of art, its supposed to be fast and extreme
That's disheartening.
Btw, greenday is far from extreme.

Define "pop" for me. Do you mean ALL music that falls under the badly titled "popular music" category or actually pop?
EDIT: Oh, and that person is a moron. Music can be "fast and extreme" and also be a work of art.

The first time I heard Holiday, I was like "....wow, this is actually musically complex, compared to a lot of the crap that's out now." What bugs me is the stuff that's like, "I'm gonna play the same stupid pattern over and over and over and over and over again and sing random profound words to it." And of course, everyone can play that same stupid pattern on the piano or guitar or whatever it may be because it's so damn uncomplicated.

There is nothing wrong with "pop" music. I know it gets annoying, but that's mostly because of the people that are performing it. from a purely musical perspective, pop songs are written by musicians and sold to big name artists, designed to be catchy and easy to remember. that's how a song becomes a hit. that's why pop music is so simple, and usually looked down upon by the musically knowledgeable.

In a sense, I think one hit wonders are some of the most genuine songs out there.
Once you're popular, you work as hard as you can to stay up there...

Ash Rail pop is basically music generated for sales, MTV stuff though there are diamonds in the rough : ) don't get me wrong Being that you meant that I chose that it's dead, naturally. Now, if you'd meant everything that technically fits into the "popular music" cateogry, i.e. not "classical" I would strongly disagree. That's why I had to clarify.

There has always been music written for fame and fortune rather than music's sake. But that doesn't mean Handel's "Music for the Royal Fireworks" isn't a good piece, does it?
I can appreciate some pop. On the whole, the audience they're selling to doesn't share my tastes, but when you get genuinely good performers on a good song, I'm not afraid to admit I like it.
That said, I'd be damn glad if I didn't have to hear the local "top 40" station everywhere I went.

As with any genre, pop has its lows and its highs. Most of it is not created for beauty or arts sake, but there is the odd pop musician that really lives up to his or her title.
I could find a million ways to diss it, but do I really need to? My opinion on it is probably shared by most of you.
On top of that, most people who share their opinions with me on the pop industry have sold their souls to some other equally capitalist and almost as un-musical genre. It is possibly these people that I dislike more: people who have obviously just listened to someone else. That old quote comes to mind [and, you know me, I'd never remember the punks name...] "Punk was just a way to sell pants."
You can shake your finger at a genre and eventually, you will just sound stupid. So, dislike the music, and don't go running around telling everyone about how much it sucks: just lie safe in your own knowledge. You're not going to prove anything no matter how much vigour you have. [I did see that thread... it was very interesting to see all the reactions.]
The only exception I find is stirring up a heap of simple plan fans, and treat it like a social experiment. But the moment you take it seriously, you just look like an idiot.

xd at the Simple Plan kiddies comment...attempt the same thing with mallcore band fans. (i.e. people who like Slipknot, Korn, Disturbed, etc.) They seem to be extremely violent and angsty by nature (The Slipknot fans in particular), so it's fun to stir them up. ninja

Sadly [yes! it actually got worse!] there aren't very many of them in my city anymore. I suppose they couldn't work out how to procreate. edit: You know what is hillarious? Misspelling the word intelligent.

I dunno. I think there was a lot better stuff out a few years ago. Not that I listen to the radio often now, but when I do, it quite often just seems kind of dull.
