which would be the best set of professions:
mining- jewcrafting
mining skining
mining tailoring
mining herb
or something else?

I went with Skinning and Tailoring. I went with Skinning first cause I was a noob and thought "Ooo easy money if I sell to vendors." I kept it cause its still easy money and that some Tailoring Items require leather. I got smarter for my second profession and went tailoring cause of the bags and good armor for me.
But Honestly if you wanna get your epic mount easier go Skinning and Herbology. Cause the Blackdragon Scales and Elixir of Shadow Power are like the toughest of the reagents you need. I said Herbology cause you'll need like 30 Ghost Mushrooms to make the Elixirs. Those stupid 'shrooms were going for 4 gold a piece on my server. And the Scales aren't in the AH much cause of the lack of BRS runs.

Go w/ Herb/Skin. My own lock (currently lvl 63) is Herb/ Tailoring, & Tailoring has been loving useless. rolleyes Mining would be nice too, but it takes longer to get to the money making stuffs, unless your server is hooked on copper/tin/low gems, like some of them.

i make about 100g an hour farming ghost mushrooms and about 40g for fadeleafs. herbalism is a good money maker
